Coburn Blocks Stopgap Spending Bill

Senate Democrats have failed to win the unanimous consent needed to speed floor debate on the fiscal 2013 spending package, which could delay consideration of the measure for some days.

Following a Tuesday lunch meeting between Senate Democrats and President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told reporters that a familiar adversary, Oklahoma Republican Tom Coburn, would hold up the measure.

“I don’t know all the details, but in this new era of ‘let’s get along’ — all this cheering and yelling about this bipartisan bill — I just learned while I was in here with the president that — who else? — Coburn now won’t let us move to the bill,” Reid said. “So, unless something happens in that regard, we’re going to have to use the new rules we have that McConnell and I can move forward ourselves, or I’m going to have to file cloture.”

Coburn said he wanted to delay consideration until his staff and those of other Senate Republicans had a chance to read the bill.

not Ryans budget, this is just another in the long line of temporary stopgap bills that the most useless Congress in the history of the country passes to prevent the country from going into default.

It is a GOP bill that Coburn is blocking, and, whomever is listed as sponsor, we can be sure Ryan's office has a lot to do with that.

When some renegade jackass like Coburn can theoretically shut the government down over a fit of pique, the institution is broken.

Harry, if you can't manage to change it, then get the hell out of the way in favor of someone who can.

There should be some CorpoDem apologist along at any time now to explain how that bad cop/Republicans kept the good cop/Democrats from doing anything to make shit better.

I can't imagine how anyone with even the slightest knowledge of what's going on could say this is Obama's fault. You can only move so far toward center until you've not only crossed onto the other side but can just barely make out the fense from your current position.
