Senate Democrats have failed to win the unanimous consent needed to speed floor debate on the fiscal 2013 spending package, which could delay consideration of the measure for some days.
Following a Tuesday lunch meeting between Senate Democrats and President Barack Obama, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., told reporters that a familiar adversary, Oklahoma Republican Tom Coburn, would hold up the measure.
I dont know all the details, but in this new era of lets get along all this cheering and yelling about this bipartisan bill I just learned while I was in here with the president that who else? Coburn now wont let us move to the bill, Reid said. So, unless something happens in that regard, were going to have to use the new rules we have that McConnell and I can move forward ourselves, or Im going to have to file cloture.
Coburn said he wanted to delay consideration until his staff and those of other Senate Republicans had a chance to read the bill.

(14,400 posts)not Ryans budget, this is just another in the long line of temporary stopgap bills that the most useless Congress in the history of the country passes to prevent the country from going into default.

(27,315 posts)It is a GOP bill that Coburn is blocking, and, whomever is listed as sponsor, we can be sure Ryan's office has a lot to do with that.

Harry, if you can't manage to change it, then get the hell out of the way in favor of someone who can.

(2,173 posts)I can't imagine how anyone with even the slightest knowledge of what's going on could say this is Obama's fault. You can only move so far toward center until you've not only crossed onto the other side but can just barely make out the fense from your current position.
