. . . and put up some Yard Sale signs? Then whatever doesn't sell, you leave outside with a Free sign on them? Also, have the locks changed.

(Not that I recommend this. I heard of this being done in a lesbian breakup. It didn't end well.)

I guess the double recliners that seat three should have been a giveaway.

28. Yep. My own mother learned that the hard way
Fri Mar 15, 2013, 02:32 PM

She yardsaled and gave away half my dads stuff when they first split up. The judge later split their remaining property fairly evenly, but then took 50% of the value (not what she sold it for, but the actual VALUE) of the things my mom sold OUT of her half, so my dad walked away with quite a bit more than she did. I'll never forget how furious she was.

Basically, as his wife, she had a right to sell the items if she wanted. Because they were split up already, HE had a right to 50% of the value of the items that were sold. She sold the stuff and spent all of the money, so she had to repay him that 50%. Even worse, she didn't have any receipts to prove the actual amount she got for each item, so the judge based the calculations off of fair market value. She sold his entire workshop, which contained over $20k worth of blacksmithing and steelworking equipment, for less than a thousand dollars. The judge awarded my dad somewhere around $10k for it. He ended up walking away with about $40k more than she did after the house was sold and the various accounts were split. And I still hear about it every year...

When you are divorcing, ALWAYS talk to your lawyer before selling or disposing of any property. Not doing so can really bite you in the ass later.

Even people who should know better. My mother is an attorney. SHE should have known better, and she did it anyway (she once told my sister that she thought she could talk her way out of it with the judge). Their divorce was so acrimonious that common sense went right out the window.

Sold his clothes, cheap, out of the trunk of her car and accidentally misplaced his Masonic ring (he called it blasphemy).

Dude had her drive him to the airport for an overseas trip and only then told her in the
airport parking lot he'd be over seas for over a year and when he did get back
he hoped she would have divorced him by then.

Do I think she did the correct thing?...Maybe...

Tikki

ps..She owned the house..he abandoned his belongings there..there were no legal repercussions
in any way...dude bugged her about the ring off and on for a couple years or so...then nothing.

She nicely gathered up most of his personal items so that he could take them with him when she kicked him out. Gathered up his clothes and toiletries and neatly packed them in a box but not before adding a healthy amount of Nair Hair Remover to his bottle of Rogaine treatment for that bald spot on top of his cheating head. I found that to be quite creative given her state of mind.

Will's former wife didn't have the sale but she did throw his shit out into the yard. This lady goes two steps further, burns the cheater's clothing and sells off the good stuff at fire sale prices. l heard of one lady one time who sold off her husband's priceless music album collection in a similar manner. Just desserts, imo.

I used to frequent an auction with estate items..bought lots of great things there over the years. The buyers were usually dealers but also a mix of collectors and just regular folks like me. One night, a woman came in and purchased everything. She over bid every item..some great stuff ..lots of junk..she bought everything. No one else had a chance. Turned out she caught her husband cheating..went to the auction and purchased about 100k. of old stuff. I later asked the auctioneer if she actually delivered the stuff and if she paid. She said they just put it in the garage and she wrote her a check ..the night of the auction.
