(17,199 posts)I remember him holding a townhall with college students, before the war began.
He was VERY SKEPTICAL.
At one point, he took on the gung-ho students and asked, "How many of you are willing to join and go to Iraq and actually fight." Only a couple of hands were raised. He scoffed at the students' hypocrisy.
BUT after Bush did his jet-landing stunt on that carrier, Tweety did all of a sudden gush over Bush and said "We are all neo-cons now."
But again, let's be accurate, he was very SKEPTICAL before we went to war. He challenged those students at the townhall. He raised lots of questions.

(27,454 posts)This was his last editorial for the San Francisco Chronicle in Sept of 2002.
This is the last paragraph.
So I'll say it: I hate this war that's coming in Iraq. I don't think we'll be proud of it. Oppose this war because it will create a millennium of hatred and the suicidal terrorism that comes with it. You talk about Bush trying to avenge his father. What about the tens of millions of Arab sons who will want to finish a fight we start next spring in Baghdad?
Well, that's it for now. You know where I stand.

Chris Matthews complained that the news media "sucks lately in covering the Iraq war," later asserting, "I have been a voice out there against this bullshit war from the beginning." But Media Matters has documented numerous instances during the past three years in which Matthews lauded President Bush's handling of the war, advanced false and misleading claims about the war, and attacked Democratic critics of the war.

(37,364 posts)Bush WH during the ramping up of the war. Either he was aware and was miffed because he wasn't included, forgot, or is just oblivious to anything but the natterings of his cocktail crowd. WE discussed those meeting extensively on old DU. DU was lightyears ahead of the media and still is.

(89,278 posts)and seems to not know some basic things . you know Rachel Maddow really reads and researches her stuff as do some others. but i don't think Matthews really reads up on much of the stuff. i think he gets his news by watching other news shows.
he is very emotional and goes by what he is feeling at the moment.
