Also the reason why Portman doesn't deserve accolades for his change of opinion on gay marriage. Portman is supposed to represent ALL of the people in his district, whether straight, gay, male, female, black, white, whatever. If opinions are based solely on personal family matters, there is no representation of others.

I'm glad that he's changed his mind, and I hope he and his son have a better relationship in the future, but Portman still supports bad policies on women's rights, labor, and pretty much everything else. Plus, he still believes states should have the right to not recognize his son's marriage, if his son marries. This is not equality, and not acceptable.

I hope his change of heart on gay marriage will open the door to more humane policies in the future, but only time will tell if that's the case. Until then, he's just another self-serving Republican who looks out for himself, his family, and his campaign donor's interests, and everyone else can go take a hike.

Solely because the GOP is such an inertia bound clunker and so vicious when anyone steps out of line. But yeah, this cartoon nails it. Sen. Portman, blowin' in the wind.

change his stance. He would change back in a minute if the situation changed. All republicans are against the rights of others. They only think of themselves. When the situation affects them, bingo-bango they change there stand. They have no principles.

He is a republican. He will let seniors starve until his mother starves.

He is a piece of crap that doesnt deserve any credit. He hates gays until his son tell him he is gay. If his son was abducted by aliens, the ass-hat Portman (a republican) would switch back to hating gays. They have no conscience. They have no empathy.

But I do think in his own sad, pathetic way, he displayed what masquerades as courage in his coal black heart. Otherwise, we are in total agreement.

bad policies in the form of his son, was an epiphany. He had a change of heart and mind. Now, he is going to be made fun of and denigrated because of it??? Yeah, this is the way to get others to change their hearts and minds. While allegedly humor, it is a lousy way of encouraging change.

Do you think we have any effect on his delicate feelings? I'd say about as much as we had of winning the "hearts and minds" of Iraqis. About as much influence as Obama had by trying to compromise with the Republicans.

His decisions are a result of what is in his best interest, and that is his only influence.

but he's predictably backwards on every issue. love and accept your son, asshole, even if he is gay...duh. don't expect a pass on the rest of the issues because you love your son, as you should anyway.

the situation changed. He is a republican. He has no principles and no empathy. Kissing his ass wont encourage other republican pieces of shit to change their minds. They say fuck their neighbors until it's them, then they see the light. Bullcrap.

He hated gays until it affect HIM. Selfish piece of crap. Gov Christie was against the government helping disaster victims until his state needed the government. He didnt change his principles, he changed his tune to GET GOVERNMENT MONEY.

Epiphany my asspect.
