The charity of pink ribbons has defunded Planned Parenthood, claiming it cant support an organization thats under investigation.
Well, we in the old stomping grounds of former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline have news for the folks at Susan G. Komen for the Cure: Planned Parenthood is always under investigation. As long as there are politicians determined to pursue ideological agendas and score points with religious conservatives, it always will be.
Never mind that Planned Parenthood has repeatedly been cleared of the charges thrown at it. The Komen charity appears to believe in guilt by innuendo. Either that, or the organization has succumbed to a political agenda; Karen Handel, a new senior vice president for Komen, pledged to defund Planned Parenthood during a failed run for governor of Georgia in 2010.
For five years, the Komen charity has funneled money to Planned Parenthood to screen low-income women for breast cancer. Last year it donated $680,000.

Seems to always happen - organizations start doing good work then it all goes to their heads.

(2,091 posts)I am so disappointed in an organization that I supported for many years. As a breast cancer survivor I know the importance of early detection. How are poor women without insurance expected to get early detection? Planned Parenthood was their lifeline and you have made it political. 97% of the women Planned Parenthood sees is NOT for abortion but for other health issues. As for the abortion issue, even though I'm pro-choice (and that doesn't mean pro-abortion), the last time I looked, it was legal in the U.S. Because of your decision to no longer help fund P.P., my decision is to no longer donate my charitable dollars to Susan G. Koman. I truly hope you rethink your decision.
Please send an email to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, telling them they destroyed their reputation by defunding Planned Parenthood breast cancer prevention programs:
