Tell President Obama to tell the GOP and the Nation, No cuts to Social Security benefits, No Chained CPI, no Superlative CPI will be tolerated.
Cutting Social Security benefits via Chained CPI or Superlative CPI is unacceptable to Americans. A recent National Academy of Social Insurance poll found 64% of Americans thought the COLA should be increased not cut. A poll conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health showed 66% of Americans supported no cuts to Social Security.
Increasing annual COLA's also increases Social Security Trust Fund revenues. This improves Social Security's long term solvency while increasing benefits for Seniors.
Tell President Obama:
#noSScuts
#HandsOffSocialSecurity.

(75,480 posts)I wrote him six weeks ago about those same concerns and particularly what hardship the chained cpi would cause seniors. I also expressed my concerns about cuts to Medicare and this was the answer I got.
My Administration continues to support older Americans encountering unfair treatment, financial hardship, or difficulty obtaining health care. The historic Affordable Care Act strengthens Medicare by not only preserving but also expanding benefits for Americans who depend on Medicare every day. The law has helped more than five million seniors and people with disabilities save an average of over $600 on prescription drugs in the donut hole in Medicare coverage. Additionally, in 2011, more than 32 million seniors received 1 or more free preventive services, including the new Annual Wellness Visit. To learn about help available through the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, visit www.CMS.gov.
The Affordable Care Act also helps prevent and eliminate elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation. Additionally, this law implements unprecedented measures to fight waste and fraud, and to improve the quality and outcomes of care for Medicare beneficiaries. It ends unwarranted subsidies to private insurance companies, and takes important steps to reduce unnecessary hospital admissions, improve patient safety, modernize payment systems, and streamline record-keeping. It also realigns incentives to reward medical providers for the value, not the volume, of their care. For resources and information on how to prevent, report, and stop Medicare fraud, visit www.StopMedicareFraud.gov. To learn more about the Affordable Care Act, please visit www.HealthCare.gov.
By protecting Social Security from risky privatization plans, we are preserving its solvency and maintaining it as a reliable income source for seniors. The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act included an additional payment to supplement Social Security benefits for seniors struggling to make ends meet, and I have called on Congress to extend this relief again. Together, we will ensure all our citizensnot just a privileged fewcan retire with dignity and security.
Finally, as we work to keep Americas promises to senior citizens, we are helping make sure older Americans can continue to enrich communities across our Nation through service and community involvement. By expanding the Senior Corps and implementing the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act, we are creating more opportunities for seniors to share their knowledge and experience with younger generations. For more information regarding service opportunities in your area, or to share your story of service, please visit www.Serve.gov.
To find assistance for senior citizens and their families, visit www.Eldercare.gov or call 1-800-677-1116. For help with Medicare, visit www.Medicare.gov or call 1-800-MEDICARE. Additional information and resources are available at www.USA.gov/Topics/Seniors.shtml. For assistance using internet resources, I encourage you to visit your local library or community center.
Thank you, again, for being in touch.
Sincerely,
Barack Obama
Being he was in Israel today, I know it wasn't him who answered this letter, but it reflects his ideas. The only thing I hadn't heard of I put in bold letters, but is it enough to counter the damage of chained cpi to seniors? I'm kind of gobsmacked to tell the truth.
Oh, I am going to sign the petition now.

(13,211 posts)Superlative or Chained CPI costs 130 billion, I think I would have remembered a line item costing that much, but I dont remember seeing it.
thanks for the sig, 99,983 more to go.

(3,102 posts)a $250 stipend in 2010 - a year when there was no cost of living increase. 12 Democrats voted against it.
So for this letter to reference an act that Obama signed in 2009 is insulting and deceptive.
That's what I make of it anyway.

(75,480 posts)double speak the Republicans use.

(3,102 posts)could not believe that Democrats voted against the stipend! I called Mark Warner's office (I live in VA) and asked if he was a Democrat because he voted agains it.
I should have known then that the fix was in. I knew it for sure when Obama came up with the Catfood Commission.
And for Obama to try to dress it up and go all around in the barn in an effort to distract you from what you were writing to him about - simply dishonest, deceptive and just plain insulting!

I've read that only USA.GOV. Petitions will be replied to by the Administration.
I'm all for it...but, not if it's just another "DOA" Petition that goes nowhere.
