(34,582 posts)I am playing hooky today. Twice a year I manage to throw my back out. Usually two chiropractic visits I am good. Not this time. Three sessions plus ice, electric stimulation, and decompression haven't fixed it. Well, got some x-rays and measurements done, and it seems my left leg is just a touch shorter. Enough shorter that it throws my hip 7mm off in height. So, bad news is I hurt a bit, but good news is I know why this happens. A simple orthotic will fix it. Ehh, this growing older thing ain't for the weak

(17,528 posts)Hip or pelvis is slightly tilted making one leg a little shorter...which I never even noticed.
Been going to the Chiropractor for weekly visits for 3+ months. Will it ever end?
You say a simple orthotic would fix it...what's that?
I wonder often if I'm being scammed. Never heard of so many visits to fix a problem.
I never felt any problem with my hips...now sometimes they hurt. I wonder what good she's doing...or maybe even harm?

(34,582 posts)I don't wear shoes in the house, so I have taken a heel cup I picked up at the drug store and ace bandaged it over my sock. Just walking around the house seems better- my pain is slowly going away. Like I said, this happens every six months. The last time and this time my chiropractor shot x-rays. In both cases, my hip had shifted 7mm in the vertical. Hopefully the insole thing will work.

(640 posts)President Obama has done nothing but impress me with this trip to the Middle East. In his short time, he appears to have really revitalized the left wing in Israel and made peace appear possible.
That he got Bibi to apologize to Turkey is amazing.

(9,922 posts)I don't see it as very amazing. To me its only reasonable that Israel would be motivated to patch up relations and ensure Turkey is onside for when the USA or USA/Israel launch an attack on Syria and/or Iran. Notice that Israel has still not deemed it necessary to apologize to the US for killing a US citizen in their heavy handed attack on the Gaza flotilla. It knows the USA is already onside.
An American-Turkish dual citizen killed during an Israeli commando raid on a humanitarian aid flotilla was among activists buried in Turkey on Thursday.
Furkan Dogan was struck by five bullets shortly before dawn on Monday while atop the Turkish-flagged Mavi Marmara ship, according to friends who were on board at the time of the Israeli raid and attended the funeral for eight of the nine Turks who died.
The website of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan who called the Israeli raid a "bloody massacre" and threatened to sever ties with Israel listed Mr. Dogan's nationality as American. A State Department spokesman confirmed a dual US-Turkish citizen was killed and said the embassy in Turkey had offered consular services to the family.
snip
Furkan was my friend, said Ali Yunusoalu, who went with Dogan for pre-dawn prayers on the top deck of the Mavi Marmar on Monday. Israeli naval boats soon approached the ship, he said, and then commandos dropped from helicopters.
The soldiers started shooting and bombing with bullets and percussion grenades, said Mr. Yunusoalu. It was a big sound you cant hear a thing because of the noise.

(640 posts)First, I'd say that it's very clear the only reason Bibi apologized is because of the President pushing him to do so. I don't think this apology, which is leading to a normalization of relations between the two countries, happens without President Obama.
Second, I think this notion that the US or US/Israel is about to launch or is trying to create provocation to launch a war against Syria/Iran is completely overblown. I think Bibi is realizing the changing winds within his country that show the people want peaceful relations, not continued belligerence. I believe the President's visit did a lot to help Israel's left-wing gain its voice back.

(9,922 posts)And not just to satisfy Israeli desire to have what is seen as a major threat to their security removed
Though Mortal Enemies, Iraq and Iran Similarly Threatened the U.S. Petrodollar
If OPEC decided to follow Iraqs lead and suddenly began trading oil on the euro standard, it would mean economic meltdown for the U.S.
Oil-consuming nations would have had to divest themselves of U.S. dollars ,via their central bank reserves, and replace them with either euros or whatever currency the party nations preferred. The consequences would be the dollar would crash in value, U.S. currency would collapse, and massive inflation would ensue. Foreign funds would flee from U.S. stock markets and dollar denominated assets, there would be a run on the banks much like the 1930s, and the current-account deficit would become unserviceable. The inevitable result would lead the U.S. budget deficit to go into default creating a severe worldwide depression brought on by the U.S. inability to pay its debts.
snip
Now Its Iran and the Petrodollar
Despite protests from the U.S., India and Iran have begun trading oil for gold, supported by rupees. Iran has been dumping the dollar in its trade with Russia in favor of rubles. India is already using the yuan with China; China and Russia have been trading in rubles and yuan for more than a year; Japan and China are moving towards transactions in yen and yuan.
Iran and China trades will be settled in gold, yuan, and rial.
snip
Conclusions/Ramifications?
It seems a reasonable assumption that the real reason tensions are mounting in the Persian Gulf is that the United States is desperate to torpedo this movement away from petrodollars. President Obama, being much more comprehensive in searching for alternative means of dealing with currency than all-out war, is surely hoping to wait until after he wins a second term as President before deciding what to do to protect the U.S. dollar. The shift, which is being led by Iran and backed by India, China, and Russia, would clearly seem to be sufficient to make Washington anxious enough to seek out an excuse to topple the regime in Iran, but at what price? A nuclear threat would be the perfect cover for any direct military involvement, just as chemical WMDs, which were never found, were in Iraq. But the clock is ticking and oil is changing hands without the use of the U.S. dollar.

Considering how long Netanyahu refused to apologize, it is really something that Obama was able to step in and make it happen so quickly.
