"Not these workers" (UW-Madison Chancellor Ward Said What?)

From e-mail.

This week, students at UW-Madison put the heat on Chancellor David Ward to cut the university’s contract with Palermo’s Pizza.

At a university event, they asked him a simple question: “Will you stand up for workers’ rights today” for Palermo’s workers?

His jaw-dropping response? “Not these workers, not today." We can’t let Ward get away with these comments.

Sign our petition NOW to tell Ward it’s wrong to ignore attacks on workers’ rights and to take action to end the contract with Palermo’s Pizza until the company recognizes our union and reinstates fired workers: http://signon.org/sign/uw-madison-chancellor?mailing_id=10602&source=s.icn.em.cr&%3Br_by=256145&r_by=162787

Ward’s comments are terrible on their own.

But what makes them even worse is he made them after the UW-Madison Labor Licensing Policy Committee called on Ward to cut the contracts and the Workers’ Rights Consortium—an organization UW-Madison is affiliated with—issued a report that found Palermo’s Pizza violated labor law, retaliated against us for trying to form a union and illegally fired workers.

We can’t let Chancellor Ward ignore the facts and attacks on workers’ rights.

Tell Ward you won’t stand for his comments and that he should cut the contracts with Palermo’s Pizza until our union is recognized and fired workers are reinstated: http://signon.org/sign/uw-madison-chancellor?mailing_id=10602&source=s.icn.em.cr&%3Br_by=256145&r_by=162787
