How Karl Rove fixed the FBI investigation of his theft of the 2004 Presidential election in Ohio

Last edited Sat Aug 8, 2015, 03:02 PM - Edit history (4)

Karl Rove adopted Stanley Borgia as a protege, as Borgia coordinated the prosecution of the Lackawanna Six for terrorism. Rove had Borgia moved to Cincinnati FBI's SAC in December 2004, just in time to scuttle the FBI's investigation of the obvious evidence of vote switching in the Southern District of Ohio. We interviewed Clermont County Board of Elections personnel who told us the FBI had looked at the boxes of thousands of optical scan ballots that had been "remade" on election night 2004.

ABC's Scandal series is revealing a lot about how Karl Rove rigged the 2004 Ohio election, but not this aspect of the cover-up.

Update 5/18/13: In the May 16, 2013, episode of Scandal–this season’s finale– the Department of Justice character, David Rosen, turns the evidence of the theft of the Presidential election over to the Karl Rove character, who destroys it. Rosen then gets a Presidential appointment. After his strategic service as Cincinnati Special Agent in Charge, Stanley Borgia was promoted to be in charge of security for the Department of Energy and to serve on the President’s Intelligence Advisory Committee.

Update 8/8/15: The link within this thread to the excellent Washington Spectator article on Karl Rove's meltdown on Fox News on Election Night 2012 no longer works. With the permission of the author I am posting it here:

Down for the Count
Did an Election Day Lawsuit Stop Karl Rove's Vote-Rigging Scheme in Ohio?
January 1, 2013 | by Lou Dubose

For 30 years, Karl Rove has won elections by a formula that depended on deceit and defamation.
A whispering campaign that described Texas Governor Ann Richards as a closet lesbian; an
announcement that two aides working for Texas Agriculture Commissioner Jim Hightower
would be indicted (before Justice Department lawyers made any announcement about
indictments); rumors of John McCain’s illegitimate black child that circulated in South Carolina
after McCain defeated George W. Bush in the 2000 New Hampshire primary; rumors about
Cindy McCain’s drug habit; a national media campaign that turned John Kerry’s service in
Vietnam into a liability.

Later in his career, Rove’s connections with Republican state officials overseeing elections, and
the big private corporations contracted to conduct them, have put him in position to manipulate
the vote when he couldn’t deliver it.

For the elected officials targeted by Rove, and for those of us who have documented his work,
the word schadenfreude will forever be associated with Fox News’s 2012 election night
coverage.

Anyone who missed the moment has probably seen the video that went viral: the divided screen
displaying the celebration at Obama’s Chicago headquarters on the left and Chris Wallace calling
Ohio for Obama on the right. Then Rove—working as a Fox on-air commentator while directing
the largest outside-money PACs in the 2012 election cycle—telling the network co-anchor he
was wrong.

Although Wallace was seated behind a console, viewers could see his knees buckling as Rove
and the Romney campaign bore down on him. “Karl just got off the phone with somebody else,”
Wallace said. “You’ve got more-recent figures?”

Wallace turned the decision over to Rove, who stammered about the Ohio secretary of state’s
web page and argued that it was too early to make the call. (The Associated Press and the other
networks had already called the election.)

Where Wallace failed, Fox co-anchor Megan Kelly manned up, following her producer’s
directions to walk back to the network’s decision desk and confirm what the network had
reported.
“I think we should bring Chris Stirewalt or Arnon Mishkin out here to sit next to Karl,” Kelly
said after she returned from an off-set conference with Digital News Director Stirewalt and the
analysts who had made the call.

Michael Barone, a data-driven conservative, finally sat next to Rove and told him the election
was over, even as Rove persisted with confused projections of Republican votes yet to be
counted.

“I’m just sayin’ in terms of public perception,” Rove said, “it looks a little odd for us to be
making the call.”

Rove’s on-air meltdown was understandable. He had just squandered $300 million that corporate
oligarchs poured into the two dark-money PACs he created to buy the Senate and the presidency.

Plaintiff’s attorney Clifford Arnebeck has a different theory.
Exactly seven hours before Rove embarrassed himself and Fox News, Arnebeck was in an Ohio
courtroom, arguing that a secret contract the state’s secretary of state had executed with a
voting-tabulation company created the capacity to “flip the vote” in 25 Ohio counties.
To understand Arnebeck’s lawsuit, it is necessary to understand who the defendants were.
Jon Husted is a Republican secretary of state who has spent much of the past two years working
to restrict early voting, which in previous elections has been used by far more Democratic than
Republican voters. (See “Stealing Ohio,” Washington Spectator 9/1/02.) When a law passed in
haste by the Republican-dominated Ohio General Assembly created confusion about early voting,
Husted issued an advisory opinion that allowed only members of the military to vote on the
weekend before the election. He then fired Democratic election commissioners who challenged
his ruling. And after a federal district judge held that Ohio’s ban on early voting was
unconstitutional, Husted refused to comply with the court’s order, insisting he would not begin
preparations for early voting until an appeals court ruled on the case. When the U.S. Sixth Circuit
Court of Appeals upheld the lower court decision, Husted appealed the to the U.S. Supreme
Court, in an attempt to run out the clock on early voting. Four days before the election, he issued
restrictive rules on the counting of provisional ballots.

“The surreptitious manner in which the Secretary went about implementing this last minute
change to the election rules casts serious doubt on his protestations of good faith,” federal
District Judge Algenon Marbley wrote in a decision handed down after the election.
Arnebeck’s second defendant was Election System & Software, one of the big two
voting-technology companies that control 70 percent of elections in a U.S. voting system that is
almost completely privatized.

ES&S made national news in 2006 when its tabulation program registered an 18,000 undervote
in a South Florida congressional race that Republican Vern Buchanan won by 369 votes—out of
238,000 cast. Most observers, according to the Charlotte Sun, concluded that absent the
undervote, the Democratic candidate would have won.

The Port Charlotte, Florida, daily also reported on a New York study that found an ES&S
“precinct-based voter counter” that tends to add votes in some elections. The same model counter
lost 11,000 presidential votes when it was used in Florida in 2008.
More closely related to the lawsuit that Arnebeck filed in Ohio was a forensic audit of ES&S
software in Venango County, Pennsylvania, where two computer science professors from
Carnegie Mellon University documented multiple unauthorized remote connections to ES&S
tabulation servers. The outside access to the servers was unknown to election officials until the
forensic audit was released.

The report was suppressed after ES&S threatened legal action. But the Brad Blog, which does
in-depth election coverage, obtained and posted a copy along with a letter from ES&S that
charged the Carnegie Mellon professors with unlawful possession of proprietary information.
Arnebeck was skeptical about a contract signed by Husted and ES&S less than two months
before the election with no public review or bidding and no testing of the software.
“They are both behaving in a suspicious way,” Arnebeck said in phone interview. “Whether or
not they are coordinating, I can’t say. But Husted has been involved in a lot of questionable
activities going into the election.”

Arnebeck’s client was Bob Fitrakis, a journalism professor who has used the online Free Press to
document election irregularities in 2004 in Ohio. Fitrakis has co-written several books on
election theft. He is also a sophisticated political activist. He ran for Congress (as a Green Party
candidate) so that he would have standing in election-related lawsuits. He and his co-author,
Harvey Wasserman, are persistent critical observers of the election process in Ohio.
Before filing suit, Fitrakis got word that a software contract between Husted and ES&S had been
signed within months of November’s election.

Fitrakis submitted an open-records request for the contract, and according to Arnebeck was
“stonewalled” by the secretary of state’s office. (At the November 6 hearing, an attorney
representing Husted said the secretary of state’s office had been working to pull the requested
material together.) Less than a week before the election, a source inside the government quietly
provided Fitrakis the 28-page document that was withheld by the secretary of state.
The contract describes “a stand-alone singularly focused” software application that could produce
a “precinct-level, candidate, elections result file for all state requested offices.” Arnebeck’s
description is not so benign. In court pleadings, he described a plan to install ES&S software
“patches” on computers tabulating votes in 25 of Ohio’s counties, including the three most
populous counties in the state. The patches had not been tested by an elections board as required
by state law because they were designated as “experimental,”thus not subject to the requisite
testing. Installing them created a “back door” that could allow outside access to the
voter-tabulation system, Arnebeck told the state judge hearing the case.

An attorney representing ES&S wrote in a memorandum filed with the court that the software
“does not have the capacity to access or alter a vote in Ohio, even if the imagined saboteur
exists.” Arnebeck’s allegations are based on speculation, the attorney wrote (and argued in
court).

At the November 6 state court hearing (Arnebeck made a similar argument in federal court the
same morning), Arenebeck told the judge that the patches were the point at which the
“man-in-the-middle attacks” that Karl Rove had used to flip Ohio’s votes in the 2004 election
could be implemented in 2012.

I asked Arnebeck about his “man in the middle” allegation. He said it was supported by the
affidavit of Stephen Spoonamore in a lawsuit Arnebeck filed alleging electronic manipulation of
election results in 2004.

According to SourceWatch, Spoonamore, a Republican, is a “recognized expert in the field of
data security and digital network architecture” who has worked as a consultant for MasterCard,
American Express, Chubb Insurance, Bloomberg, and others.
Spoonamore attested that he found evidence that Rove, in collaboration with IT company owner
Mike Connell, had used computer fraud to steal the 2004 election for George W. Bush.
The tabulation system Connell designed allowed for the introduction of a third computer
“between computer A and computer B,” Spoonamore had written.
“This centralized collection of all incoming tabulations would make it easy for a single operator,
or preprogrammed ‘force balancing computer’ to change the results in any way desired by the
team controlling Computer C.”

Connell’s IT firm had been employed by the Bush-Cheney campaign, the Republican National
Committee, the National Rifle Association, and numerous Republican candidates and elected
officials. According to Craig Unger’s recently published book Boss Rove: Inside Karl Rove’s
Secret Kingdom of Power, Connell’s firm was “a powerful technological tool” at Rove’s
disposal. Connell was also a key witness in the voting-theft lawsuit Arnebeck filed after the 2004
election.

Connell died while returning from a business trip to Washington, when his private plane crashed
within miles of the Cleveland airport on December 19, 2008. The circumstances of his death,
while Arnebeck was preparing to depose him for a second time, resulted in a series of articles,
mostly in progressive news outlets, that attempted to tie Connell’s death to his critical role as a
witness.

In Boss Rove, Unger reports that there was no evidence of foul play.
Spoonamore, a witness with unimpeachable IT credentials, believes the 2004 election was stolen
in Ohio. “What they did was brilliant,” he told Unger. “You have to admire that. They won. They
changed the election. Kerry won but they switched it to Bush. Trust me, that’s what they did.”
The 2004 Ohio election was the backstory to the lawsuit Arnebeck argued on Election Day 2012,
which was largely ignored by mainstream media.

No one expected Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge Mark Serrott to issue a
restraining order postponing a national election. The lawsuit was a preemptive measure.
Arnebeck and Fitrakis were creating a public record that documented the existence of potentially
malicious software that was secretly put in place by the secretary of state. They would have filed
suit earlier, if they had had the contract earlier, Arnebeck said.
Judge Serrott said a court order for a recount paid for by ES&S was premature and denied
Arnebeck’s request for relief: “You can always ask for a recount [after the election]; if I draw
that case I’m happy to look at it and maybe make a determination of who should pay for it.”
The prospect of a canvass of paper votes created by the electronic system, overseen by a special
master selected by the state court, was a hedge against election theft.

On election night, Rove assumed he was betting into the fix. The Fox political analyst had reason
to believe that Mitt Romney would carry Ohio, not by a narrow margin at the polls but by the
shifting of votes at a computer console, according to Arnebeck.

As it turned out, Obama didn’t even need Ohio to win the election.

4. Richard Hayes Phillips, PhD and Cliff Arnebeck, Attorney in litigation over the 2004 Ohio election
Sun Mar 24, 2013, 05:43 PM
Mar 2013

Richard Hayes Phillips, whom Bob Fitrakis of the Free Press and I (for the Ohio Honest Elections Campaign) were paying to digitally photograph ballots from the 2004 election, was having difficulty gaining access to Clermont County ballots. I drove to Clermont County, just north of Cincinnati, and met with the Assistant County Prosecutor assigned to the BOE. Phillips and I then went into the room where the ballots had been counted and were stored. The episode is documented in Phillips book: Witness to a Crime. One of the altered Clermont County ballots appears on the cover of the book.

Apr 2013

Media coverage of our investigation and litigation could be a long thread itself.

Of course, Karl Rove had a sophisticated media control plan in play from the beginning. Prolonging the Iraq war provided cover: message to Kerry, the Dems, the FBI, and the publishers and political editors: Do you really want to question the legitimacy/integrity of the President and Commander in Chief at a time of war?

Professor Bob Fitrakis (with Harvey Wasserman & Steve Rosenfeld) had the first book out--comprehensive as to both the evidence of widespread vote switching, voter suppression and exit poll discrepancies. Our investigator Richard Phillips expressed unhappiness to the publisher of Bob's book that contained a number of articles written by Phillips that had already been published in the Free Press. The publisher, New Press, canceled the promotional budget for Bob's book. So, Bob had a major academic book publisher--but there was no normal professional promotion of the book. Richard's subsequent book provided a lot of detail and, of course the digital archive of actual 2004 ballots, but was self-published and promoted by Richard.

Bobby Kennedy's June 2006 Rolling Stone article was sensational, but not acknowledged and broadly shared as it should have been by the main stream media. Ohio's largest newspaper the Cleveland Plain Dealer went so far as to assure their readers that they had looked in the matter at the time, and there was nothing to it.

There was some (actually a lot of it: Bobby Kennedy, Jr's article contained a great many mainstream newspaper cites) courageous, aggressive, first-rate main stream media investigation and/or coverage, however it did not get passed on, around and repeated as when a major story builds a achieves critical mass. I attribute this to Rove's sophisticated containment strategy directed from his pivotal position within the White House.

We had many front page stories in the Columbus Dispatch, Cincinnati Enquirer, Cleveland Plain Dealer, McClatchy News, New York Times etc. . . . just not together with legs so as to build and achieve critical mass. The New York Times acknowledged Bob Fitrakis' Free Press as a major Internet publication and source for news on the 2004 election. In the 2012 election the Free Press achieved main stream status by breaking multiple cutting edge stories that were picked up with attribution by major media like Forbes, Fox, CBS and others. And, Dr. Cynthia Boaz published an excellent preelection story in Huffington Post, including reporting upon Richard Charnin's cutting edge statistical evidence of multi-year, multi-state PResidential election vote count rigging.

Our side of the story is the only side that was thoroughly documented by a large number of independent documentary filmmakers and by evidence filed in court.

Critical mass for this subject has now been achieved through the ABC TV series SCANDAL which candidly exposes serial election theft and political assassination for all the world to see and discuss.

This post is a GREAT summary of media coverage in 2004. At the time, I was mostly following local Ohio news sources online. What I read there was shocking. I continue to believe the story will eventually be told. AND I remain a loyal Kerry supporter, because I think he is a man of integrity...and because he has relentlessly continued his fight to put our country on a better path (than that of GWB) since that 2004 election.

The first book out on this was What Happened in Ohio? by my colleague Bob Fitrakis and Harvey Wasserman and Steve Rosenfeld.

What Happened in Ohio? A Documentary Record of Theft and Fraud in the 2004 Election, by Bob Fitrakis, Steven Rosenfeld, and Harvey Wasserman: $10 SPECIAL through freepress.org
Published by The New Press
"It is my professional opinion that these numbers are fraudulent." - STATISTICIAN RICHARD HAYES PHILIPS, PHD, IN REFERENCE TO OHIO'S 2004 PRESIDENTIAL VOTE COUNT, FROM HIS DEPOSITION IN THE MOSS V. BUSH LAWSUIT, WHICH REACHED THE OHIO SUPREME COURT

In the first comprehensive look at the most critical state's voting process in the 2004 presidential election, three pathbreaking investigative journalists (one a member of the legal team that sued the state of Ohio for election fraud), compile documentary evidence of massive potential theft and fraud in the presidential vote problems that may have changed the outcome of the presidential election in Ohio, and thus the nation.

What Happened in Ohio? includes trucking receipts that show voting machines were pulled back from minority districts; ballots that contain evidence of tampering; mathematical analysis demonstrating the statistical impossibility of voting totals; testimonials from hundreds of voters, campaign workers, and poll workers about conditions that effectively disenfranchised thousands of voters; copies of flyers instructing Democrats to "vote on Wednesday"; official letters sent to tens of thousands of longtime voters incorrectly informing them they had been deemed "inactive" and ineligible to vote; photos taken of the original exit poll data broadcast on election night before it was retroactively "corrected" by the networks; and much, much more.

For anyone suspicious of the Ohio vote, here's the evidence you've been waiting for.

Yes to both your questions:
1) New Press, the publisher of the book, raised seed money for litigation to preserve the 2004 Ohio ballots that were being threatened with destruction.
2) Fitrakis used his advance from the publisher to partially fund Phillips and others in the creation of a digital archive of the ballots, a part of which are appended as a CD to Phillips' later book, Witness to a Crime.
3) The filing of the litigation, King Lincoln Bronzeville NA et al v Blackwell received exclusive, same day as filing, coverage by the New York Times, giving national authoritative coverage to the problem of the rigging of Presidential elections in the U.S.
4) The federal court promptly issued an order to all 88 Ohio county boards of election to preserve their 2004 ballots beyond the 22 month period required by federal law.
5) Plaintiffs amended their suit to challenge the constitutionality of a partisan Republican voter ID law designed to suppress Democratic voters, associated their suit with new plaintiffs NE Oh Coalition of the Homeless OH making the same challenge, for whom the USDC SDOhio granted declaratory relief before the 2006 election.
6) The book and suit probably affected the 2006 election in which Secretary of State Ken Blackwell was the Republican Party candidate for Governor. Democrats won for Governor, SOS and AG--all offices affected by the scandal of the 2004 Presidential election in Ohio as described in the book and our suit.
7) The new Democratic AG negotiated a settlement concept that contemplated, among other things, the AG pursuing an investigation of the election irregularities in the 2004 Ohio election.
8) The Democratic SOS moved to lift the stay placed upon the litigation while the settlement was being worked out to get an order for an accounting of all 2004 ballots and the movement of all surviving ballots to Columbus under her custody and control.
9) We moved lift the stay for limited discovery to permit us to put together a RICO claim against Rove and the US Chamber of Commerce for engaging in a pattern of corrupt election activity and proceeded to take the deposition of Mike Connell, Karl Rove's IT guru pursuant to the order of US District Judge Solomon Oliver oft he Northern District of Ohio on the day before the 2008 general election.
10) We successfully served a deposition subpoena upon Karl Rove and document subpoenas upon the U. S. Chamber of Commerce before the 2010 general election with the cooperation of Defendant Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.

153. Let's get to the truth and let the truth have its effect
Fri Mar 29, 2013, 09:57 PM
Mar 2013

The folks who are making trillions of dollars from government policies designed to serve them are spending billions of dollars to keep things going their way. They are spending billions on both sides of the political spectrum to constrain prosecutorial discretion against taking action against them and their public servants. They are spending on private public interest groups to pursue things other than election and other forms of fraud which are enriching them royally. They are using every kind countermeasure against those who might upset their apple carts. I believe the attorney Paul Minor of Mississippi, who took on the the tobacco companies, and Bill Larach of California who was taking on Enron, were targeted by Karl Rove for federal criminal prosecution and imprisoned to block them from helping to organize litigation against their 21st century organized criminal conspiracy. They have also arranged for the death, or attempts upon the lives of politicians and others who have stood in their way--President John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther King, Jr. being the most notable examples from the last century.

This "evil empire" is no more impregnable to peaceful challenge than was the Soviet Union. It can be brought down and/or transformed quite readily by the truth of it becoming generally known. Public consciousness of it would simply make it unacceptable. Imagine the gratitude humanity would feel toward Karl Rove if he publicly confessed his fraudulent electoral conduct as he did on SCANDAL just the other night on ABC TV. These are crimes on a scale greater than those of the white minority in South Africa, where truth and reconciliation rather than jail were the necessary remedies.

155. John Kerry needs to explain why he conceded the 2004 election he won
Sat Mar 30, 2013, 11:19 AM
Mar 2013

Particularly now that John Kerry is Secretary of State, he owes us and the world an explanation for that. Leading up to the 2004 election, George Soros argued that the election was a referendum upon the GW Bush/PNAC doctrine of preemptive war, and the American people needed to vote for Kerry to voice their disapproval of that doctrine. It was, and they did. And, this was important for our reputation as a law abiding nation. So, why didn't John Kerry fight?

164. Senator Kerry's 2004 election protection activities
Sat Mar 30, 2013, 02:41 PM
Mar 2013

Jonathan Simon of the Alliance for Democracy had taken screen shots of the exit poll data that proved the Kerry victory and alerted the Kerry campaign. An Ohio Democratic operative had informed the General Counsel of the Ohio Democratic Party of the anomalous report of Kerry under performing the rest of the ticket in a dozen SW Ohio counties.

Senator Kerry had taken all of the public interest groups' election protection operations under his wing at the Democratic convention. After the election he informed them there would be no litigation over the 2004 election. His campaign had raised some $7 million for post election litigation. Not a cent of that money was offered to support our citizen challenges in state and federal court, even though Reverend Jesse Jackson asked Senator Kerry for such financial support for our efforts.

Senator Kerry did authorize his Ohio election counsel, Don McTigue, to participate in the recount effort. However, he did not support any of our effort to investigate and litigate against the flagrant fraud in that election.

On the day U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones and Senator Barbara Boxer filed the challenge to the Ohio 2004 Electoral Vote, Senator Kerry was in Iraq "with the troops," having left instructions with his Senate colleagues not to support the challenge.

Senator Kerry told Dick Russell, coauthor of Jesse Ventura's book "American Conspiracies" that he knew his election was stolen, but by the time his lawyers figured it out, it was too late to do anything about it.

...and IS fighting. Just not the way some people wanted him to.

Many people don't realize that most concessions...following an election...happen the same night. Gore, in 2000, conceded and then unconceded. That was right to do, but HIGHLY unusual. So was the recount, which IMHO should have been finished. I think the Supreme Court was wrong.

However, one of the strengths of our democracy is the way we transfer power peacefully...and I believe Al Gore considered that when he finally did concede. Elected, but not inaugurated.

As to John Kerry, I believe he is a man of integrity. Only he can say why he conceded the next day. BUT...my guess would be that he ALSO considered whether a fight against GWB would de-stabilize our democracy. I think it could have, even though I would have liked to see one. AND, he may not have had all the information needed to win such a fight. To the best of my memory, evidence was erased from hard drives that could have been critical to winning. And the courts were led by mostly GOP judges.

157. Why did Kerry not fight?
Sat Mar 30, 2013, 12:09 PM
Mar 2013

I was involved with the ePluribus Media folks who helped to uncover the embedded presences of SmarTech and Mike Connell inside of Ken Blackwell's Election Night network.

Some of us felt that an important part of the impetus in Ken Blackwell's contract for 'real-time' reporting of election night results was to ensure that he "owned" election night results.

As Ohio's election night administrator, he came with the vested authority of the State, which ensured that any fight over results began with the GOP holding a couple of built-in advantages.

With Connell's real-time reporting system, by 2 AM SOS Blackwell could assert and begin defending, in Ohio, what was unavailable to SOS Harris the morning after, in Florida: The power of the digital perception that Bush won!

Overnight and immediately, Blackwell put Kerry in the position of overturning the sitting President Bush's 'win'.

It maybe irrelevant to cite it, in this circumstance, but there's lots of reason for the adage, 'ownership is 9/10's of the law'. ePluribus Media collaborators had to bring me around to understanding the advantage that was created by Blackwell's ability to authoritatively claim the Bush win during the wee hours of Nov. 3, 2004.

I think one of the things accomplished by Connell's election night reporting system was to help assure Kerry's quick concession.

for sure, but I think one of the powers of instantaneous, digital media is to give consumers what they want, immediate gratification and closure. I think Kerry remembered the rancorous aftertaste left by Florida's fiasco.

Not all of us gave up that night, but it only requires the perception of "most" to win. If a bunch of those who would fight under other circumstances are convinced to give it up before the real fight starts ('Bush won. Another Florida, oh God!?'), half the battle is won.

To be sure, however, Cliff Arnebeck has more direct knowledge of what the campaign's thinking might have been on that cold morning-after, than I did.

166. How Rove used the Iraq War to roll John Kerry
Sun Mar 31, 2013, 02:52 PM
Mar 2013

Last edited Tue Apr 2, 2013, 01:36 PM - Edit history (1)

I think Karl Rove abused his policy position in the White House to prolong the Iraq war. Had we simply toppled Saddam Hussein, a self-admitted Stalinist, and left the Iraqi army and civil service alone, as our military wanted to do, the war would have been over before the 2004 election. I believe it was Rove who was behind the dismissal of the Iraqi army and the debathification of the Iraqi civil service, which created a power vacuum, an insurgency and a long war of occupation. Perhaps Rove's missing Emails would reveal this to be the case.

For Rove it was a way to have G.W. Bush running for reelection as a "war-time President;" and a basis for telling John Kerry, the Democratic Party, the FBI and our nation's investigative press corps that they could not attack the integrity of the President and Commander in Chief at a time of war. Persuading/influencing Kerry not to contest was the key to getting everyone else to fall into line. The evidence that John Kerry felt a duty to support the war, the commander-in-chief and the troops was his presence in Iraq on January 6, 2005, the day the challenge to the Ohio Electoral College vote was raised by U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones and U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer.

280. Conspiracy thugs calling their critics "conspiracy theorists"
Sun Apr 28, 2013, 04:31 PM
Apr 2013

This morning I posted a diary on Daily Kos discussing the absurdity of our letting Karl Rove get away with the treasonous conduct in which he has engaged so successfully for so long. Someone quoted my original post for this thread and on that basis recommended that my diary be excluded as "conspiracy theory."

Here is the link: http://www.dailykos.com/story/2013/04/28/1205369/-Absurd-control-we-gave-Karl-Rove-over-U-S?showAll=yes

Fear of this label being applied to those willing to stand up against actual political conspiracies may have been a factor weighing against John Kerry contesting the reported 2004 Presidential election result. It certainly worked well against those who pointed to evidence of a conspiracy in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.

I believe we have had the support of only one member of the financial elite in this country since 2004. The bulk of our support has come from ordinary citizens--the same base that Howard Dean tapped into during the 2004 Presidential primary. The truth is, we members of the 99% can beat those who are stealing trillions and spending billions to retain their privilege to do so. All each of us needs to do is our part.

Thank you very much, Art, for your leadership.

101. NYT article on Lackawanna Six Terrorism case and Stanley Borgia's role in it
Mon Mar 25, 2013, 06:34 PM
Mar 2013

Last edited Mon Mar 25, 2013, 07:39 PM - Edit history (1)

http://www.nytimes.com/2003/10/12/nyregion/12LACK.html

Excerpt of the NYT article describing Stanley Borgia's role:

Headquarters ordered written updates twice a day, at 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mr. Mueller was briefed twice daily, the officials said, and he often made Lackawanna part of his daily briefing to President Bush. Stanley Borgia, then second in command in the Buffalo F.B.I., said, "I would look at my watch and say, `8:30. The president is saying to the director, `What's going on in Buffalo?' "

Investigators who a month earlier had been without hard evidence of a serious crime now had their eyes and ears in so many places that the hint of threat appeared almost everywhere.

On a pay phone, they detected what one referred to as "assessment calls" between Mr. Derwish and some suspects. "One of the recruiters was calling, `How are the guys doing?' " said an F.B.I. official. The concern was that Mr. Derwish might activate his recruits. In one call, an official said, a friend of the suspects warned Mr. Derwish that the F.B.I. was watching.

The approach of the Fourth of July in 2002 brought a chorus of terror warnings around the country. In Lackawanna, agents were told that one man named in the anonymous letter might be buying propane tanks, according to two law enforcement officials. They feared a bomb.

Then, just before July 4, an informant told the local police of overhearing talk that men dressed as Arab women might attack a mall with explosives hidden under their clothes. "It was tense, very tense," Chief O'Hara said. "I can tell you one thing, on the Fourth of July, I didn't let my wife or family go to any malls."

But the suspects barely stirred. "They just did their normal routine," said Mr. Borgia. "They just went about their normal lives."

In fact, throughout that summer they mostly went about their normal lives. But with the first anniversary of Sept. 11 approaching, with the case being briefed in Washington twice daily, with orders from the White House on down to prevent any act of terrorism, and with it increasingly clear the men had lied about training with Osama bin Laden, even normal looked suspicious.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/art-levine/mia-in-voting-machine-war_b_2054411.html

But there's a political stalemate at work that means that few short-term solutions are considered when the voting machine issue is so polarized. Most mainstream advocacy groups, the two major political parties and conventional media outlets generally don't care about voting machine accuracy. In turn, the voting integrity movement has become so marginalized by its controversial, if well-researched, insistence that the 2002 and 2004 presidential elections were stolen by mastermind Karl Rove, and that all types of electronic voting machines are so easily rigged and unreliable that they should be scrapped. In this climate, moderate, incremental reforms like the now-dead voting machine reform legislation sponsored by Rep. Rush Holt (D-NJ), or Professor Stark's handy auditing method don't stand much of a chance.

At the same time, as Harvey Wasserman and others contend, it's not really fair to blame the messenger of failed machines and rigged elections for the lack of meaningful reforms. "It doesn't matter how you present it," he says of he largely indifferent or even hostile response from public officials, Democrats and many progressives. "They can't face the reality that it challenges their presumption that this is a democratic system."

13. Value of a paper trail
Sun Mar 24, 2013, 06:14 PM
Mar 2013

But for the work of CASE-Ohio, led by Susan Truitt, Ohio would not have had as many paper ballots in the 2004 election. CASE-Ohio pushed for legislation that required DRE machines to have a paper trail.

In the 2012 election we believe the credible threat of a manual recount at the expense of ES&S of ballots cast in counties to which ES&S had attached secret software patches just before the election scared ES&S and the Republican Secretary of State into "nixing the fix."

This is written up by Lou Dubose in the January Issue of the Washington Spectator, and republished at ElectionProtectionAction.org.

The threat of a court supervised post election audit--made credible by the testimony/affidavit of NSA expert Mikey Duniho and of which Karl Rove was unaware--explains Karl Rove's election night meltdown over the Ohio call by Fox News.

Remember that Rove and a lot of other Republicans thought that it was going to be a very close election and that Ohio might determine the outcome. When Rove made his outburst, the scope of Obama's electoral margin was not yet clear. Rove clearly thought that Romney could still win Ohio and the election. Why was he so sure in spite of a lot of evidence to the contrary? It was more than just denial, imo. He knew something - or thought he knew something. And go back to 2004. Something clearly seemed to have happened in Ohio and several other states which made the exit polls not line up very well with the actual final outcome.

39. Rove's grand plan of which the secret Ohio ES&S patch was a part
Sun Mar 24, 2013, 08:12 PM
Mar 2013

Yes. Rove had a grand scheme, led by the OpSec (Operations Security) attack, that fizzled before it got very far off the ground. OpSec was to damage Obama in 2012 the same way the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth damaged Kerry in 2004. This time, however, Jill Simpson tracked OpSec's origins to Rove and SmarTech months before its claimed originators said they had created it. Scytl was supposed to play a part in realizing the benefits of the OpSec attack. Simpson exposed Scytl's North American HQ as being a residence in Virginia. Scytl filed a change of address for its HQ to another token address the day after Simpson's picture of the Virginia home appeared in the Free Press.

Rove was still counting on the traditional 5-6 point red shift in the Ohio vote on election night. The leak to the Free Press of the ES&S secret contract the week before the election and our litigation regarding it on election day disrupted this last piece of the grand plan that had been unraveling all along.

Poll taxes and similar Jim Crow tactics originating out of Rove/Koch/Chambers (21st century Republican controlled state legislatures) are based upon material elitism and the pagan worship of golden idols.

I recall the video appearing before the election, warning Rove not to tamper with it. After the election Brett Kimberlin reported receipt of a letter from "Protectors" claiming to have shut down parts of Romney's computer operations in three states. Thom Hartmann came out with a piece suggesting he thought this activity helped block Rove and may have been the reason for his election night meltdown on Fox.

Because Rove was complaining only about Fox's call of Ohio for Obama, I think it was the Ohio Free Press suit that "nixed Rove's Ohio fix," rather than anything Anonymous or the "Protectors" did. Beyond that, I have no knowledge or opinion about what they did. I do think that the DOJ and FBI presence in the field to watch for both voter suppression and vote rigging activity was a major improvement in our commitment as a nation to honest elections. I also appreciated the President's acknowledgment at his State of the Union address of the black woman who waited in line for many hours to vote. The President has directed his attention to this problem, and he is the best ally we could possibly have.

Rove’s on-air meltdown was understandable. He had just squandered $300 million that corporate oligarchs poured into the two dark-money PACs he created to buy the Senate and the presidency.

Plaintiff’s attorney Clifford Arnebeck has a different theory.

Exactly seven hours before Rove embarrassed himself and Fox News, Arnebeck was in an Ohio courtroom, arguing that a secret contract the state’s secretary of state had executed with a voting-tabulation company created the capacity to “flip the vote” in 25 Ohio counties.

To understand Arnebeck’s lawsuit, it is necessary to understand who the defendants were.

145. Rove orchestrated the theft of the 2000 election from Vice President Al Gore
Fri Mar 29, 2013, 10:18 AM

Rove also orchestrated, out of SmarTech, the theft of the 2000 election.

FSOS Katherine Harris knowingly purged tens of thousands of fully qualified and registered black voters from the rolls. I was told of this tactic by a Republican lawyer in Columbus, Ohio the week before the election, and Greg Palast documented it.

Punch card ballots were deliberately manipulated to create under-votes/over-votes on ballots cast for Gore.

Electronic voting machines were manipulated by malicious software.

Criminal six-point red-shifting prejudices the ability of progressive independent candidates to play their most constructive role in the election process. On election day of the 2012 election, Green Party Presidential candidate Jill Stein was was not seeking votes. She, with Bob Fitrakis and Harvey Wasserman, were working to block the application of malicious software in 25 Ohio counties administered by ES&S.

In 2004 Green Party Presidential Candidate David Cobb and the Libertarian Party candidate led the Ohio Recount effort.

There's a video out there... That Dan Rather did where they talk about the paper where the punch cards was manufactured. They said the substrate thickness of the paper roll changed making the punch cards more difficult to use contributing to the "hanging chads" and "dimples" and other anomalies with the punch cards in Florida specifically.

Here's part of the transcript below the rest can be found here http://election-reform.org/dan_rather.html#palm_beach

Sequoia: Switched to substandard paper ballots for 2000 Presidential Election

38:35 Dan Rather: The idea that finding the best voting system is an engineering problem is not new. In fact it was some of the best engineering minds in the country, at IBM, who perfected the old Votomatic punch card system decades ago. Those punch cards, when they had been used by IBM for data processing, had been precise enough to help land a man on the moon. That's how reliable they were.

But by 2000, in an avalanche of hanging and falling chads, the punch card voting system was proclaimed to be "unreliable", old hat, out with the old and in with the new. Yet seven years and billions of dollars later, the public, especially in Florida, the public is clamoring for paper ballots again. Only this time, there is no IBM quality control, no quality control standards in the background. And each machine now costs thousands of dollars not a few hundred, as in the punch card era.

How did we get here? It all happened so quickly, in a matter of weeks, maybe months, starting in Florida. Was this rush to convert even necessary? There may be some disturbing answers to that question, in events that unfolded long before Bush vs. Gore.

Tonight we hear from a group of people who think they know what happened in Florida, 2000, and why.

The following is not on the video, but is in the HDnet transcript: It all sounds familiar, too familiar. Taxpayers being asked to throw out millions of dollars worth of voting equipment, start over again, and pick up the tab. With no guarantee the new equipment will provide a solution to the problems. Technology can often offer a solution to a complicated process, in this case, accurately recording votes. But technology poorly conceived, designed, integrated and tested is a recipe for failure. In this instance, subsidizing the same outfits that couldn't get it right the first time, giving them more chances could lead to the further waste of millions upon millions of taxpayer dollars. And just as important, the further loss of confidence in our nation's ability to use technology to provide solutions for mission-critical applications, none more important to our nation than accurately recording each of our votes.

Now, back to a core question: was the rush to these expensive and perhaps ill-conceived new voting systems necessary?
End of section on the transcript, but not on the video

40:00 Dan Rather: Our investigation took us into the heart of California's central valley, to the tiny town of Exeter, where for over thirty years Sequoia voting systems, at this factory, made hundreds of millions of punch card ballots, up until 2003. Punch card ballots dominated the voting landscape in 2000. Among many other places they were the most common voting system in Florida. The system seemed idiot proof. You simply took a stylus and punched out holes, or chads, as they are known, and the cards were then run through a computerized tabulator. Couldn't be simpler, or so it seemed.

What really struck voting experts about the 2000 election in Florida were the many tens of thousands of ballots that had overvotes or undervotes for president. Where voters appeared to have voted for more than one presidential candidate or none at all. Over 50,000 Sequoia punch cards statewide were discarded as invalid because voters appeared to have overvoted. In fact, on fully 17,000 of the Sequoia cards, voters seemed to have voted for three or more presidential candidates! Meanwhile, in Palm Beach County alone over 10,000 voters had not voted for president at all.

Experts scrambled for possible explanations, confused voters, confusing ballot layout, like the infamous butterfly ballot. But no one was looking at the punch cards themselves.

We recently met up with a group of former Sequoia employees who actually made the punch card ballots, who feel they have the real answer as to what happened in Florida 2000, and why.

They have never had a chance to tell their stories. Until now. Thanks for doing this. I appreciate each and every one of you being here. Well first of all, tell me who you are and how many years you had at Sequoia.

Tom Ayers: I'm Tom Ayers and I was at Sequoia for 33 years. I was the shipping and receiving foreman.

Linda Evans: I'm Linda Evans I was at Sequoia Pacific for 7 or 8 years and I did quality control.

Suzy Keller: Suzy Keller. I worked at Sequoia for 25 and a half years and I was the controller.

Giles Jensen: Giles Jensen. I worked for Sequoia Pacific for 25 years and I had several positions in management.

Cy Turner: Cy Turner. I was the pressman at Sequoia for 13 years.

Greg Smith: Greg Smith. I worked for Sequoia Pacific for 32 years and I was a pressman trainer.

E. Washington: E. Washington, I was a pressman at Sequoia pacific. I worked there 26 years.

Dan Rather: Well have you added up how many years experience you have cumulative total between you?

Workers: (laughter) A lot.

Dan Rather: John Ahmann, the biggest punch card expert in the United States says that Sequoia Pacific made the best voting ballots anywhere.

43:25 Cy Turner: We took great pride in the quality of ballots we put out; there was no leeway. It had to be right and it had to be on time. And they took a great pride in doing that from top to bottom.

Dan Rather: Well, the company told customers that Sequoia produced, and I quote, "a no defect product." Now, what did that mean to you?

Suzy Keller: No defects? That means punch cards would punch properly. They would go through the card readers properly. It's a no fault, what they said. And they did it for years.

Dan Rather: They did it, these workers say, until the months leading up to the 2000 presidential election, when they say they saw many things changing, but none more troubling than the paper itself.

Linda Evans: The paper would come through the press looking like it was doing, like jello. It would just kinda, and we'd have to go throw away both ends of the paper, cuz we couldn't run it.

Greg Smith: The paper? The paper is a large factor in the quality of the ballot.

Cy Turner: It's the flour for the bread. I mean you can't make good bread without good flour. If you don't have good paper, you can't make good ballots.

Dan Rather: Did you have input, you know, as rank and file workers in the plant, did you have input on what kind of paper was acceptable and what kind wasn't.

E. Washington: Yes.

Dan Rather: The policy was workers could reject rolls that were imperfect or damaged and they say they often did send rolls out for salvage trying to insure top quality ballots.

Cy Turner: A pressman running a press could reject a roll, kick it back to raw stock, say this roll was no good. We had rolls come off in huge logs and they're marked by position when they slice a, b, c, d, e. Right about early '99, maybe middle of '99 started getting rolls marked x and z. We couldn't figure that out, but man they were terrible.

Greg Smith: We had quite a bit of input, but towards the end, we had no input whatsoever.

Dan Rather: So things changed.

All: Yes they did.

Greg Smith: After 1999, it was all over. It was like we were all put on the shelf.

Dan Rather: And your opinion didn't matter after that.

All: Exactly.

What changed in 1999?

Greg Smith: The paper changed. They decided that they wanted to go with a certain brand. And I think that everybody's opinion was this 2000 election was going to be our demise. Because of the poor quality of what we put out the door.

45:55 Dan Rather: For decades Sequoia had ordered its punch card ballot paper from James River or International Paper; the only mills that had traditionally offered voting punch card stock. In 2000, the company switched to a new mill, Boise Cascade, which had virtually no experience making tab card stock. Workers say they were told to stop testing paper samples. Traditional quality control standards were relaxed.

Linda Evans: There were a lot of things that we were told to let go. And there was card bins I wouldn't sign off. I refused to sign em. They'd sit there overnight and they would say, "you gonna sign em?" and I'd go "no". Come in the following morning, all the bins had been signed off and moved to the front.

Dan Rather: Which means they're being made into ballots.

Linda Evans: Right. Which means someone else signed em off and said let em go.

Dan Rather: But the workers say the problems they were having with the paper went beyond a mere change in suppliers. They say they were suddenly seeing paper rolls that weren't clearly even Boise Cascade paper, because these rolls had Xeroxed Boise shipping labels, rather than genuine ones. Where was all this terrible paper coming from? They say they were baffled that so much paper could be bad, until one day, they got a clue.

E. Washington: One of the pressman is not here. Bob Krause. He had a thing if the paper was real bad, that he would write little nasty letters on the side of the roll. Well, we got one of those rolls back, with the same letter that he had written on it. So, then, that's when it went through our mind that some of that paper was getting rewound and sent back.

47:40 Dan Rather: Not only that. Mr. Washington says this roll, and many of the worst rolls, had a Xeroxed Boise packing label on it. Let me understand this. Your fellow worker, he gets paper he knows is not up to quality?

E. Washington: He's disgusted with. Yes.

Dan Rather: So he marks on it?

E. Washington: Yes.

Dan Rather: This is bad or whatever. That presumably leaves the plant or goes somewhere and then it comes back with one of these Xerox Boise labels on it?

E. Washington: Yeah.

Dan Rather: Did you know about this as well?

Greg Smith: Well, I had the same suspicions as everybody else did as far as the paper. Felt that it, it was rejected and it was taken out of the plant and stored somewhere and then relabeled and brought back.

Dan Rather: Well let's just go down the line is there any doubt in your mind that the company was aware that the ballots for the 2000 general election, including the Presidential vote, were being made with inferior paper? You don't think there's any doubt that they knew that?

Various: No doubt. They were told every day. Yeah. They were told everyday.

183. Ralph Nader's role in the 2000 Presidential election
Tue Apr 2, 2013, 03:29 PM
Apr 2013

My wife and I encountered Republican political operatives organizing the circulation of petitions to get Ralph Nader on the Ohio 2000 ballot for President. I do not recall hearing Ralph asking Florida voters not to vote for him because of the closeness and apparent cheating going on in that election or criticizing Karl Rove and/or the Republican Party of Florida for stealing the 2000 Presidential election.

Mike Connell's death has not yet been properly investigated as the result of the crime that it was.

An anonymous source from within the McCain campaign informed us: first, that Rove had issued a threat, through Jeff Averbeck, of adverse consequences if Connell did not take the fall for the theft of the 2004 Presidential election in Ohio, and then later, that Connell was willing to talk and that he was in danger from Rove. The second report prompted us to press for Connell's deposition before the 2008 election and for his personal attendance at the Cleveland federal court hearing on whether the deposition would proceed.

Connell did not "take the fall." Indeed, he pointed the finger at others for the obvious security issues raised by having SmarTech servers mirroring the Ohio Secretary of State's entire election operation.

Attorney General Mukasey did not designate the December 19, 2008 crash as a crime scene, so it was investigated by the NTSB to determine other possible causes. Later, when another informant using the pseudonym of Mark Felt (Deep Throat of Watergate), transmitted a post operation report on the termination of Mike Connell as a national security threat, the Cleveland FBI decided there was nothing to it. When I asked the Columbus FBI to meet with me, Bob Fitrakis and Henry Eckhart to discuss all the evidence we had of an ongoing racketeering conspiracy, I was advised that because the Cleveland FBI decided there was nothing to it, they were not going to look at it any further. Stanley Borgia at this point was serving on the President's Intelligence Advisory Panel.

The federal court in Columbus declined to permit us to take the deposition of Karl Rove, whom we had successfully subpoenaed with the cooperation of Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner.

We are hoping to soon have both the judicial forum and the necessary resources to proceed with a proper investigation of Karl Rove's role as the principal perpetrator in an ongoing pattern of corrupt activity, including, but not limited to, strategic assassinations.

81. Ohio's Corrupt Practices Act--the most powerful RICO statute in the U.S.
Mon Mar 25, 2013, 12:07 PM
Mar 2013

Yes, Ohio's RICO was drafted by Senator Gene Watts who taught criminology at Ohio State University. Watts wanted Ohio's statute to be better than any in the nation--including federal RICO. He succeeded. The statute was adopted unanimously. Ohio RICO has a liberal statute of limitations--an action must be brought within five years of the last corrupt act within the pattern of corrupt activity. It has national reach. Our announcement on July 17, 2008, of our intention to bring such an action terrified Karl Rove. Republicans have used this statute twice against Democratic/progressive groups in their voter registration activity. They used it to shut down ACORN. We can use it to shut down election rigging in the United States.

But why is the issue such taboo for Dems, too? Kerry bailed like a beaten dog after his election got stolen--not even a token resistance after the fact. And you and your info were out there (and on DU) at the time. The RW media obviously ignored it in 2000 and 2004, but the details of these thefts must have been known by Democratic pols who have stayed conspicuously silent about it for reasons I can't understand. Election theft has paid handsome dividends as it has led to some of the most extreme RW policy decisions in the history of this country. Yet no one pounds their fist on the table to demand fair elections. If it's not dealt with, it renders efforts on all other issues useless. We win on merit, but lose on the process.

And BTW--Thanks for your heroic efforts and stay safe.

143. American elections--golf club rules: Republicans get a six point handicap
Fri Mar 29, 2013, 06:28 AM
Mar 2013

Joe, I am going to start another thread on this issue. I really like this give and take format on DU.

Major funders, and the major funder on the Democratic side, would not, and will not, fund the investigation of, and litigation against, election fraud. Consequently, systemic red-shifting of votes functions like a six percentage point handicap. It is as if our elections were golf games being played at a private club.

How could Republicans, carrying water for those regarding themselves as masters of the universe, win fair elections? They could not. So, they get an election handicap. Democrats with exceptional charm like Presidents Obama and Clinton can win. Damn good, but more ordinary candidates like Senator John Kerry and Vice President Al Gore would have won under tournament rules, but not under club rules, where their opponents got a six point handicap. Complain about the club rules and you will get thrown out of the club and not get funded by the major Democratic funders for your next election. Both Kerry and Gore supported recounts, but neither attacked the massive fraud orchestrated by Karl Rove on behalf of their opponent, George W. Bush.

I believe Howard Dean was torpedoed in the Democratic primary of 2004 because his concept of "beating Republicans by standing up and fighting" was diametrically opposed to letting Republicans play and "win" based upon a six point handicap.

I have not posted it yet.

Yes, it's the smoking gun. However, the red-shifting is not unlimited. Democrats can win, but have to do so by more than six points to be declared the winner. See RichardCharnin.com for the documentation and:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AjAk1JUWDMyRdDNzZWhMcF9sS3pHRWdUZE8zdEs4aGc#gid=23

This is a lot of statistical evidence. The bottom line is that Rove has been shifting the votes toward his Republican candidates by about six points and the statistical evidence of this, including the scientific exit polls on file at the University of Connecticut, is conclusive beyond any doubt. Steve Freeman from the University of PA wrote a book on the exit poll discrepancy in the 2004 election which takes apart point-by-point all the flack that was thrown out (again coordinated by Rove) to discredit exit polls and defame those who recognize scientific exit polling as the international gold standard for the detection of election fraud.

George Soros is the major funder of both Democratic candidates and progressive causes. He will not fund the investigation or civil or criminal prosecution of election fraud, however.

Many found it interesting that Karl Rove raised the question if his involvement in strategic assassinations in his appearance before Politico at the 2012 Republican Convention. Rove said that Craig Unger had accused him of murdering Mike Connell in Unger's book "Boss Rove."

I express hope about bringing appropriate litigation to fruition because of the considerable force and money out there to prevent such a thing from happening. I think ABC TV's Scandal is a major development in our favor because it is presenting some pretty "dark nasty things lurking here" (rigging Presidential elections and killing people to cover it up) in a rather matter-of-fact way.

I have to say that information would never be allowed to come to light. There has been nothing unique in the the story line that points to new information not previously discussed. There is so much going on in Scandal's plot line from sex affairs, violence, black ops, oh yes, even politics... so many different plot strings that any sort of historical truths concerning election fraud are rendered sterile.

Art imitating life... possibly, there is certainly a lot to cull, the bulk of it however was speculation then and still is today.

The reason truthful information is being "allowed to come to light" is that it is being presented by SCANDAL in the the form of fiction. A lot of history and current events are being publicly discussed for the first time under this camouflage.

Some of the sex is hyperbolic. I have no information about other parts of it. Perhaps some of the hottest sex ever presented on prime time broadcast television is being presented as a lure to a broader audience to take an interest in politics.

However, SCANDAL is reporting essential facts rather than speculation about what may well be the crime of this century.

Could you post this video: http://archive.org/details/ElectionFraudInOhioCourtCase , of our 7/17/08 news conference in which Spoonamore was participating by speakerphone from DC?

When I raise the Borgia's relationship with Rove and the timing of his appointment as Cincy SAC, Spoon discloses that he was with the head of the FBI Cyber Security Unit after the 2004 election, who told him that no one had asked them to get involved. Because Cheryl Eaton of the Hocking County BOE had reported by affidavit and interview with the FBI witnessing Triad changing out a hard drive before the recount, Spoon said there should have been an immediate criminal investigation by FBI Cyber Security. Absent that, Spoon said, there either was no FBI investigation, or what was done was entirely superficial.

Also, on your post of Rebecca Abrahams' interview with Spoon, could you add a link to http://ElectionProtectionAction.org as the place to send financial support for our litigation. There are two contribution buttons there: one for 501(c)(3) tax deductible and one for 501(c)(4) confidential. Velvet Revolution (VR) which bought the tapes from Abrahams and which solicits contributions for our litigation at the end of the interview with Spoon, no longer funds or passes on funds for our litigation.

And, thank you very much for what you have done already to support this thread.

Mr. Spoonamore is a leading innovator of systems involved with compression, digital image management and netcentric operations. In his current role he is working to develop monitoring and policy defense systems for the Global Credit Card, Banking and Insurance industries in the increasingly hostile world of electronic transactions. He has recently given keynote addresses for the World Bank and the AIPAC Banking Risk summits on management of risk in net-centric banking operations. His company has offices in the US, EU and Singapore.

Mr. Spoonamore is an “old hand” in this emerging space. He was involved in developing It security solutions for government agencies and elements of the US Armed Forces and elite banking elements who have been aware of the threats in cyberspace security since the early 1990s. He served on a 1992 task force to develop password methodology for the web. (Yes before that, there were no passwords)

As an Entrepreneur he has founded, or co-founded, eleven previous companies.

The best known of these firms Creative Production Resources Group (sold in

numerous clients including GE, GM, ABC/Disney, Viacom, Bloomberg, Lehman
Brothers and the US Army. Under his leadership, the firm was awarded two technical
Emmy Awards (for the Nagano Olympics Studios and Oprah Winfrey Studios).

Some of his innovations in other companies have included systems to trace digital watermarks, tag web sites for crawler updates and use double query systems for computers to check each other for signs of intrusion.

Mr. Spoonamore has received several awards for his contribution to the public sector including: 1995 he was awarded a civilian citation for outstanding contributions to the Defense Department by Secretary of Defense, William Cohen, for developing leadership training tools.

In 2003 he was recognized by Mayor Michael Bloomberg for his work helping expand the NYCTV system.

In 2004 he was thanked by Sec. of Homeland Security Tom Ridge for his work
developing process for the www.ready.gov web site.

He has also served on delegations and task forces for the UN, UNDP and USArmy, and business Trade Missions to Central Europe. Finally he has been called on as an expert witness for
congressional testimony both on the House and Senate sides in the areas of secure communications and risks of IT systems used in communications. He is well respected for his ability to translate complex technical issues into terms and ideas understandable to both Laymen and Politicians.

I can't believe how gullible people are when they want to believe something, or when they might profit from something.

If you know how easy it was to fix elections in Ohio, you don't need a conspiracy theory. Just move a ballot to the next precinct's pile, and a Kerry vote became a Bush vote, changing the outcome by 2 votes pert ballot switched. They are covering up a decade of election thefts, and Cliff isn't doing anything to reveal this truth.

90. SmarTech's role in managing a complex, multi-year, national vote rigging operation
Mon Mar 25, 2013, 04:03 PM
Mar 2013

I am not sure I understand the point you are trying to make. We are addressing the facts of an actual conspiracy for which we have witnesses and evidence--not "conspiracy theory." "Fixing elections in Ohio" is not as simple as moving Kerry ballots to a different precinct in which that ballot position will count as a Bush vote. That technique applied in punch card counties in the 2004 election. We are addressing more than a decade of election thefts, not just in Ohio, but across the nation. SmarTech was the flagship or command central for this operation over the 2000 to at least 2008 time frame, acting under the command of Karl Rove and Jeff Averbeck.

If you are suggesting that many ballots were manually switched and/or altered in the 2004 Ohio election, rather than being electronically altered by SmarTech, you are correct. However, SmarTech is where the overall process-a combination of manual and electronic vote rigging was being managed. Ohio had some electronic voting in 2004. For example, SmarTech programming, rather than a computer glitch, is probably the explanation for the few thousand extra votes on a Gahanna electronic voting machine in Franklin County, OH.

Mon Apr 22, 2013, 10:29 AM

Thank you for this information. It is not inconsistent with the fact that the SmarTech servers were the original servers for all of the political emails that Rove et al. wanted to keep private and outside the reach of laws preserving White House communications.

Spoonamore has stated that Mike Connell asked him about how such emails could be permanently destroyed. Spoonamore declined to give him that information because, Spoonamore said, it would be illegal to destroy White House emails. We believe Mike Connell, being a law abiding honest professional did not destroy any of these emails, and instead took steps to preserve them even in the event Rove persisted in wanting them to be destroyed.

The specific such emails discussed in the excellent link you provide would have been digitally transferred from SmarTech to the law firm, so that they could then be discovered there without revealing their origin at SmarTech where the entire treasure trove of white House political emails were served and resided.

88. My sense of it
Mon Mar 25, 2013, 03:29 PM
Mar 2013

The Rolling Stone piece, authored by Robert Kennedy, Jr. with brilliant graphics by Rolling Stone editors, is about as clear, plain and authoritative as anyone could make it. None other than the great pollster Lou Harris opined that the theft was "obvious." That article was published in June 2006. All that was missing was an insider fessing up, and it appeared Mike Connell was willing to share inside information.

I think Rove's initial framing of the threat was intended to appear to accept the fact that Connell was already talking to Spoonamore, and had agreed to talk to others (the House Judiciary Cmte. staff). Rove was suggesting Connell take the fall for Ohio 2004 (for a limited hang out) to save Rove and the others involved in the multi-year, multi-state vote rigging operation from being exposed.

I think Jeff Averbeck who was the guy who delivered the message to Connell put it more diplomatically, by saying: "If you spill the beans, you will be the one who ends up being held responsible." So, yes, I think you are correct--they really wanted Connell to keep his mouth shut.

I do not believe Connell lied in his deposition. He was actually quite forthcoming. He testified that he was not responsible for the selection of SmarTech to perform the back-up/mirroring of the election function of the Ohio Secretary of State's office. Then, when he acknowledged that SmarTech may have been, or probably was a subcontractor under his GovTech contract, he stated that they were placed there by others, not by him. He denied being responsible for the security issues created by their partisanship and inside position with respect to the counting of the Ohio votes.

Connell's continued availability as an honest witness to the IT aspects of every important political operation in which Karl Rove was involved was a threat to the survival of that entire operation. He was a Rove security threat, not a national security threat.

Worrall's story of driving to meet with Heather Connell is beautiful and touching. I feel confident that it is an accurate reflection of what she knew about all of this. According to Worrall's telling, she was not aware of any death threats against her husband.

Larissa Alexandrova of Raw Story also wrote about a meeting/confrontation she had with Heather Connell before Michael Connell's death.

Of course, this could just be a bizarre coincidence. However, two highly accomplished Assistant U.S. Attorneys who were with the same Florida office that had initiated a grand jury investigation that included the reported suicide of Ray Lemme, were reported to have committed suicide within a week of each other. One reportedly hung himself, the other blew his own brains out. This was reported by John Caylor in his Insider Magazine. If these were all strategic political assassinations, one would think the assassination managers would vary the methods among related targets--car accident, sudden illness and suicide, instead of three suicides.

How could Michael Connell have been deposed one day before the 2012 election. Didn't he die in 2008 just before he was to testify about the 2004 election theft?

Am I reading that correctly?

In September 2009 a redacted after action report was sent to the FBI describing how a Blackwater type team was asked to terminate Mike Connell as a National Security threat. They proceeded to affix a malicious device to the navigation system of Connell's plane where it was parked at the College Park, Maryland airport on December 19, 2008. Former NSA analyst Wayne Madsen took photos of the airport and the entry point and described his interpretation of the cover letter and report, which he said he thought were genuine.

Simon Worrall discussed this in his book "Cybergate." Bob Ney attaches the letter I sent to Attorney General Mukasey concerning threats reportedly made against Connell shortly after our July 17, 2008 press conference. His discussion of Mike Connell, to whom he, as chairman of the House Administration Committee, had awarded government contracts, appears in about the middle of his new book.

169. Parallels between 2004 Presidential election theft and 2008 Mike Connell assassination cover-ups
Mon Apr 1, 2013, 03:56 AM
Apr 2013

The cover-up of Mike Connell's assassination on December 19, 2008 has parallels to the cover-up of the theft of the 2004 Presidential election.

Two men in military garb at the scene of the crash, identifying themselves as Civil Air Patrol acting on orders from their headquarters in Alabama, were searching the crash scene, they said, for the signaling device emitted from the plane. We think, in fact, they were there there to retrieve the malicious navigation device that the saboteurs had inserted in Mike's plane early that morning at College Park, and Connell's Blackberry.

While the Blackberry contained a lot of very important information, in relation to the assassination we believe it showed the appointment/event that had taken Connell to DC on the evening of the 18th--we believe the annual Christmas Party of the Endowment for Democracy in which Karl Rove played a leadership role.

We also believe that the Doss Aviation or its pilot training subsidiary, both of Enterprise, Alabama, was directing the two men in military garb at the crash scene on December 19. Those entities were owned by Mark Fuller who is also the federal judge who sentenced former Governor Don Siegelman to federal prison in connection with a bogus federal prosecution instigated by Karl Rove.

By the time of Connell's assassination and the disclosure of the after-action-report to the FBI of how it was done, Rove's protege Stanley Borgia was in charge of counter terrorism for the Department of Energy and sitting with the Directors of the CIA and FBI on the President's Advisory Committee on National Intelligence. I believe the words: "There is nothing to it," that were applied to both the theft of the 2004 election and the reported professional assassination of Mike Connell came from him.

All this would have been examined in proper criminal investigations which have not yet been conducted in either case.

15. The Suspicious, Disturbing Death of Election Rigger Michael Connell
Sun Mar 24, 2013, 06:26 PM
Mar 2013

by By Bob Fitrakis & Harvey Wasserman
December 20, 2008

EXCERPT...

Ohio Republican Secretary of State J. Kenneth Blackwell hired Connell in 2004 to create a real-time computer data compilation for counting Ohio’s votes. Under Connell's supervision, Ohio’s presidential vote count was transmitted to private, partisan computer servers owned by SmartTech housed in the basement of the Old Pioneer Bank building in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Connell’s company, New Media Communications worked closely with SmartTech in building Republican and right-wing websites that were hosted on SmartTech servers. Among Connell’s clients were the Republican National Committee, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth and gwb43.com, that housed at one point Karl Rove's missing emails. Rove's email files have since mysteriously disappeared despite repeated court-sanctioned attempts to review them.

In 2001, Michael Connell’s GovTech Solutions, LLC was selected to reorganize the Capitol Hill IT network, the only private-sector company to gain permission from HIR to place its server behind the firewall, he bragged.

At 12:20 am on the night of the 2004 election exit polls and initial vote counts showed John Kerry the clear winner of Ohio's presidential campaign. The Buckeye State's 20 electoral votes would have given Kerry the presidency.

But from then until around 2am, the flow of information mysteriously ceased. After that, the vote count shifted dramatically to George W. Bush, ultimately giving him a second term. In the end there was a 6.7 percent diversion---in Bush's favor---between highly professional, nationally funded exit polls and the final official vote count as tabulated by Blackwell and Connell.

Until his death Connell remained the IT supervisor for six Congressional committees. But on the day before the 2008 election, Connell was deposed by attorneys Cliff Arnebeck and Bob Fitrakis about his actions during the 2004 vote count, and his continued involvement in IT operations for the GOP, including his access to Rove's e-mail files and the circumstances behind their disappearance.

85. Accidents are no stranger to this e-voting thing. Remember Athan Gibbs?
Mon Mar 25, 2013, 01:06 PM
Mar 2013

The developer of a straightforward paper-verified e-voting machine, Mr. Gibbs lost his life in an automobile accident:

Black Box Voting

Death of a patriot

By Bob Fitrakis
Senior Editor, The Free Press

March 19, 2004—The subject line on Tuesday’s email read: “Another mysterious accident solves a Bush problem. Athan Gibbs dead, Diebold lives.” The attached news story briefly described the untimely Friday, March 12, death of perhaps America’s most influential advocate of a verified voting paper trail in the era of touch screen computer voting.

Gibbs, an accountant for more than 30 years and the inventor of the TruVote system, died when his vehicle collided with an 18-wheeled truck which rolled his Chevy Blazer several times and forced it over the highway retaining wall where it came to rest on its roof.

Coincidence theorists will simply dismiss the death of Gibbs as a tragic accident..

Gibbs’ death bears heightened scrutiny because of the way he lived his life after the 2000 Florida election debacle. I interviewed Athan Gibbs in January of this year. “I’ve been an accountant, an auditor, for more than 30 years. Electronic voting machines that don’t supply a paper trail go against every principle of accounting and auditing that’s being taught in American business schools,” he insisted.

“These machines are set up to provide paper trails. No business in America would buy a machine that didn’t provide a paper trail to audit and verify its transaction. Now, they want the people to purchase machines that you can’t audit? It’s absurd.”

When Athan Gibbs appeared on Bob Fitrakis' radio show, he also visited the Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell's office. Gibbs made a very favorable impression in both places.

When I brought up Gibbs' verifiable electronic voting machine in a conversation with a former Blackwell employee, and said that Bob thought Gibbs had been assassinated, she, without hesitating, said: "That's what we thought too." Both Blackwell and Gibbs, and this former Blackwell senior staffer were African-Americans.

The importance of Athan Gibbs to the election integrity issue for 21st century America (North and South) is illustrated by the fact of my colleague, Professor Bob Fitrakis' dedication, as primary author, to Athan Gibbs of the primary authoritative text on "What Happened in Ohio" in respect to the 2004 Presidential election. Gibbs teaches us that the problem is not electronic voting machines, but rather the design and use of electronic voting machines without a proper and customary audit protocol.

Thanks for posting this article by my colleagues Bob and Harvey.

I just want to note my difference with the article's title, characterizing Mike Connell as an "election rigger."

I knew Mike Connell, mainly through his friend and colleague Stephen Spoonamore. Spoonamore did not view Connell that way. Furthermore, the more I reflected upon my two meetings/face-to-face conversations with Mike Connell, the more respect I gained for his integrity, decency and candor. I told Mike of the extraordinarily complementary characterizations Spoonamore had made of him to us, and how I looked at the deposition of him we wanted to take as a continuation of the conversations he had been having with Stephen Spoonamore.

As we parted the federal court house in Cleveland on Friday, after the Chief Judge Solomon Oliver ordered the deposition to go forward the next business day, Mike said he was looking forward to seeing us the next Monday. Warmth, humility, honesty --all the things that I am sure made Mike Connell a good husband, father, church member, IT professional, made him a phenomenal witness. The loss of his life is a great tragedy, for us all.

220. Mr. Connell was an honest broker. Thank you for making that clear, Cliff Arnebeck.
Thu Apr 4, 2013, 09:04 PM
Apr 2013

I have long respected Harvey Wasserman and Bob Fitrakis. I first heard of Bob while I attended Wayne State University many years ago.

In using the article's original title, I wanted to reinforce the central image of Karl Rove the election rigger. I failed to mention that Mr. Connell had come forward and wanted to tell the truth. At the time, his death was a real shock to people who had followed the story of the Ohio voting. Please see post number 4, especially.

As with the plane crashes that claimed the lives of Paul Wellstone, Mel Carnahan, John F. Kennedy, Jr., Mr. Connell's loss changed history. Those who didn't want him to testify must be legion, going by the lack of coverage afforded the story by the corporate/government news media. Of course, what coverage there has mainly served to supply plausible deniability and cast doubt on the integrity of those who care enough to raise the questions in public, as Robert F. Kennedy, Jr..

The Ohio plane crash is another coincidence in the long line of coincidences that have served to benefit the gang I call the BFEE, Bush Family Evil Empire, the knights errant of the War Party. I am sure you know the litany of the Merchants of Death: They have done all they could to serve the nation's wealthiest and their secret government, from at least World War I, where they made money by selling arms to both sides, to the period before the Second World War where they helped finance Hitler and the NAZI reconstruction.

Since then, I've seen them do their thing from profiting off the Cold War from Guatemala to Iran and Cuba and on to Dallas, from that horrible day to Vietnam to Watergate to October Surprise to Iran Contra to the Savings and Loan scams to BCCI to Iran Contra to September 11 to the Great Bank Bailout and Operation Enduring Qualitative Easing. In all that, one family name in particular pops up in each instance: Bush.

Some who have stood up to the BFEE include Danny Casolaro, who coined the term "The Octopus" to describe what he uncovered while investing Inslaw/PROMIS; Jim Hatfield, author of "Fortunate Son" bio of George W Bush; Mark Lombardi, the artist who created social network diagrams that plotted the conspiratorial connections between people and organizations; and Gary Webb, the Pulitzer winning journalist who made the mistake of telling the truth about the Contra-CIA-cocaine connection.

In them I stand in awe. For all I can do is chronicle things, the best I can, anonymously (apart from ECHELON and STELLAR WIND and whatever Adm. Poindexter has in the can). I fear for my family, to be honest, thanks to my good friends on DU who remind me often. If I can be of service, please let me know and I will do what I can.

Thank you and thanks to your friends and colleagues who have stood up to the War Party in public. Thanks for all you do and all you have helped accomplish. Thanks also for opposing these election stealing, mass murdering, warmongers. You are the bravest of the brave. You are the true heroes of Democracy.

221. The Criminal Enterprise that serves as the base for Karl Rove's serial election rigging
Fri Apr 5, 2013, 09:53 AM
Apr 2013

Spoonamore had told me and others that the people we were dealing with on the election rigging "whacked people." This may have been before our July 17, 2008 news conference, but was definitely before Mike Connell got whacked.

In early 2009 I contacted Wayne Madsen to inquire about Enterprise, Alabama, which the anonymous informant from the McCain campaign had told us back in July 2008 was the base for Rove's election stealing operation. Madsen shared a lot of intelligence on Doss Aviation, run by Mark Fuller out of Enterprise, but told me to contact investigative reporter John Caylor, son of the former Chief of Police of Enterprise, for more information.

Eventually I debriefed with Caylor in Columbus for two weeks to learn about "the Enterprise" that you allude to by various names in your post. Nazis, KKK and retired military coalesced into the most murderous, technologically advanced and profitable organized crime operation in the U.S. It is not clear to me whether the Iran-Contra folks acquired the drug operation of the Enterprise, or they operated in partnership. However, it is clear to me that the Enterprise, and specifically Billy Grice (former head of logistics at the adjacent Fort Rucker) orchestrated the assassination of Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals Presiding Judge Robert Vance, for the purpose of shutting down Danny Sheehan's Christic Institute RICO case against the Iran-Contra conspirators. That same year (1989) Grice also orchestrated the the assassination of the entire audit committee of the Southern Company that was investigating missing spent fuel from their nuclear reactors that had been sold by the Enterprise to Iran.

I don't think you have to fear for your family because of your knowledge of this. I think ABC TV's SCANDAL is bringing to light the scandalous prevalence of political assassinations in the U.S. and it will shock the conscience of the American public. Isn't it ironic that they could secretly assassinate JFK, MLK and RFK and then get exposed by a cutting edge, courageous TV series almost 50 years later?

I appreciate and accept your offer of assistance.

Apr 2013

I heard him speak on a UAW cable tee vee show in the late 80s about the bombing at La Penca. The scales fell from my eyes and I was certain the whole kitenkaboodle was heading to the federal penitentiary. Instead, Ed Meese and the just-us department got the case tossed and broke the Christic Institute at the bank; kept Poppy's name out of it; and demonstrated the corrupt nature of the national security state, something which becomes more visible with each passing day.

Hence, also, my appreciation for Wayne Madsen. The guy also is among those who give a damn and don't care what anybody else thinks. He once was a DUer, but got the ziggy because people who investigate and write what they find sometimes write something that is wrong, or worse, does not fit the paradigm.

Need to give you a heads-up regarding ABC and television news in general. As a former employee of two of the old Big Three nutworks, they have a habit of going gung-ho into an investigation. Getting everyone out of hiding and on the record. Then editing the heck out of the footgage to produce the program that gets broadcast, which leaves out more of the good parts than not. Which is the point.

230. Is "Scandal" setting up Rove to take the fall for 2004 Presidential election theft in Ohio?
Fri Apr 5, 2013, 08:25 PM
Apr 2013

Thanks, Octafish.

It's a small world after all. Carl Bernstein was my high school classmate at Montgomery Blair in Silver Spring, Maryland. Danny Sheehan was in my first year section and class at Harvard Law. Caylor had investigated the assassination of Federal Appeals Judge Robert Vance, but did not know the motive for the assassination, until I told him of my conversation with Danny Sheehan in which Danny told me that assassination was how he lost his appeal of a plainly erroneous District Court RICO decision in Miami.

I had experience with corporate network censorship of the political/legal news--again guided by the skillful hand of Carl Rove from the White House. It involved our successful litigation in Ohio against the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's "War on Judges," (so described on the cover of Forbes Magazine).

Are you suggesting, by directing me to the excellent piece on ABC/Capital Cities, that "Scandal" may be setting up Karl Rove to take the fall for the theft of the 2004 Presidential election in Ohio, in a limited hang out designed to protect the Mark Fuller et al. Enterprise and the multi-year, multi-state, systemic red shifting of our elections--most importantly the 2010 election that fraudulently empowered Republicans in Congress and the states? They are telling only a part of the truth--not the whole truth. I was interpreting it as the exercise of dramatic license, for simplification and general comprehensibility, rather than an intelligence fix.

Thanks for making me feel at home here.

I think Karl Rove abused his policy position in the White House to prolong the Iraq war. Had we simply toppled Saddam Hussein, an admitted Stalinist, and left the Iraqi army and civil service alone, as our military wanted to do, G.W. Bush and Dick Cheney would not have looked as bad. There were some pretty savvy people at the time who believed that Saddam was a menace who had to be dealt with.

Rove went way off track in favor of "giving business everything they want" (fascism) in 2000, out of desperation to defeat John McCain, whose "Straight-talk Express" campaign was being managed by John Weaver, Rove's nemesis. McCain beat Bush badly in the New Hampshire Primary. Rove offered Tom Donohue, then President of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a blank check to assure his unqualified support for George W. Bush in the 2000 Republican primary and general election.

Luckily, we have financial laws that provide some sunshine on groups trying to buy elections by "following the money".

But what if you had 100's of millions, maybe billions of untraceable, legit US cash that you could funnel back into the 2004 elections?

We sent billions of unaccountable USD, strapped to pallets, that was "given" to ordinary Iraqis to "stimulate" their economy....why not do this through international banking channels to convert to dinars, which would have been far more useful to these local economies? And, IIRC, the CPA was strictly a Republican operation, employing a mix of Party hacks, young zealots, and Republican interns.

Funny how that story went down the rabbit hole....because we all know how fiscally responsible and conservative Republicans are....

Wed Apr 3, 2013, 12:14 PM

I had not thought of this, nor heard it suggested before. Nor have I been reliably informed by insiders as to the exact source of the money. We do have authoritative information on some of the professional contractors on the job, whose payments were not reported on any campaign expenditure reports. The work was illegal and the payments for the work were illegal. So, you may be right.

Still, if Rove prolonged the Iraq War without the knowledge of President Bush, he might also have employed this covert method of funding the 2004 election rigging operation, without the knowledge or approval of President Bush.

They do NOT play by the rules, the forfeit their rights to have any say in this country, but nobody is doing shit about it, because "they get theirs", and that selfish shit is just a numbing drug to hide from a sick and devastating reality that they will lose their own country to psychopaths and sociopaths. He will be kicked to the curb with a golden airbag. But getting him to lead us to the people behind his machinations is unrealistic. He may have a good idea or he may even know, but he will never talk.

Just the fact that Rove needed to steal the 2004 election and attempted to steal following elections means that people are paying attention. These failed attempts also give us more information to build our defenses.

I believe the organization of this current quest for total power is similar to how the Nazis structured their attempted takeover. Each person knows their part, knowing what is in it for them, as you say, but very few know the true nature of the goal.

Last edited Wed Mar 27, 2013, 09:06 PM - Edit history (1)

Rove and his very fine counsel understand the importance to us--to any case that would shut the serial vote rigging down--of getting Rove to testify under oath. When we successfully served Rove with a deposition subpoena in October 2010, Bob Luskin filed a hundred or so pages in support of his motion to quash. This included an affidavit of Karl Rove saying he never worked in Ohio on any elections, plus some questions we might ask him might violate executive privilege that applied in 2004 when he served in the White House.

Rove can lie and subject himself to perjury charges. Rove can take the Fifth, from which adverse inferences can be drawn by a jury in a civil RICO case. Or, he can come clean and redeem himself for the sake of democracy and civilization.

The most incredible thing to me is that, with two criminal investigations of Rove by special prosecutors under President Bush and a U.S. House Judiciary subpoena, Rove has never been asked under oath about his naughty habit of red shifting votes, even to the point of stealing two Presidential elections. And, by the way, Mr. Rove, "Did you steal votes across the board in the 2010 elections to seize control of the reapportionment process and Congressional and state legislative control for the rest of the decade?"

217. Our need for working capital to fund full scale anti-fraud litigation

We're in state court now in a case that could be expanded. We are now in a position to adequately staff it for full scale litigation, if we can raise a modest amount of working capital. Traditional Democratic and progressive funding sources have been threatened with loss of their funding if they fund us. So, our main obstacle to dynamite litigation now is funding. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Seriously, Mr. Arnebeck, thank you for all you have done and continue to do. It was the rigged 2004 election that first brought me to DU. The occasion of the opening of the G.W. Bush library prompted many to look back at his Presidency. We should be looking back at the person most responsible for the wrongs of that Presidency and who, though fired by Bush, came back to political prominence and continued destructiveness toward American elections and society. That person is Karl Rove.

Mon Mar 25, 2013, 08:05 AM
Mar 2013

How to Clean Up Government(s):

1. Require structured campaigns. Campaigns will consist of
- a specified minimum number of broadcasted debates among all reasonably viable candidates
- equal numbers of interviews by professional media personnel
- biographical information or resume provided by the candidate and checked for accuracy by the media, no random reports disguised as news will be permitted

2. If any primary media entity (TV, radio, newspaper, magazine) accepts an ad for one candidate, the ad may not be run until that media entity has ad buys for equal time from all reasonably viable opponents. All ads will be charged at equal rates.

3. Media entities that do not follow the rules will have their license suspended for a minimum of one year. This applies to all relevant prinicpals not just the name of the media entity.

4. No effort can or should be made to control Internet communications.

Structured campaigns is more protective of free speech than more money equals more time. This neutralizes big money. Get the money out to get much more honest representation of voters.

Title: We need to crack down on 21st century globally organized crime

Text:
21st century election theft opened the door to the theft of peoples' inheritance from the New Deal. Through a combination of stolen/tilted elections, political assassinations, and corrupt financial generosity across the political spectrum, thieves have had their way with our laws, our treasury and our economy. They have taken control of our courts, our Congress and many of our state capitols.

We need to resurrect, revive, and reinvigorate our anti-trust (including the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933) and anti-organized crime laws and vigorously apply them against the 21st century global corporate cabal that seeks to enshrine predatory capitalism and casino capitalism as the new world order.

Predatory Casino Capitalism is not the promised land Martin Luther King, Jr. forty-five years ago prophesied we would get to within the generation of those listening to him in Memphis, Tennessee the night before he was assassinated.

Rove is shielded by major funders to the left, that make clear they do not want their money being used to attack Rovian Republican fraud. There is also the revolving door problem, as where Lanny Breuer reportedly leaves DOJ to return to a major law firm that defends/protects major corporate crooks.

However, I am confident that conspicuousness of the fraud will compel prosecutions of 21st century global corporate organized crime.

Vote rigging in the Ohio 2004 Presidential election took place in all of Ohio's 88 counties.

There was flagrant vote switching in Clermont, Butler and Warren Counties (around Hamilton County where the Cincinnati FBI resides), which were among the dirty dozen where Kerry, according to the officially reported results, under-performed the rest of the Democratic ticket. We called this the Connally Anomaly in honor of the underfunded Democratic candidate for Chief Justice (running against the incumbent Republican Chief Justice) who was officially reported to have received a greater number of votes than John Kerry in those counties. There was a phony election-night Homeland Security alert in Warren County to cover for the diversion of all ballots to an auxiliary building where ballots were shuffled among precincts so as to achieve the desired change in the Presidential vote. Roughly one half the total vote switching in the 2004 Ohio election occurred in those twelve counties.

The Free Press and our Supreme Court case documented the vote count switching that went on in Cuyahoga county, following a professionally developed algorithm along the lines that Mr. Jacobs discerned in his statistical analysis of the results and RH Phillips described in his writings in the Free Press, deposition testimony in our case, and "Witness to a Crime." Moving the ballots between precincts was not done ad hoc, county-by-county, but by a statewide scheme worked out at SmarTech. It was manually implemented county-by-county, which is why we had Phillips create a digital archive of those ballots and accompanying county poll records.

In every county using punch card ballots there were under-votes and/or over-votes resulting in lost votes for President because of manipulation of the chads of the vote card stock. We believe this may be one of the primary reasons the perpetrators of the 2004 vote rigging scheme were so eager and so persistent in wanting to destroy all of the 2004 Ohio ballots.

My focus upon Clermont County was because FBI agents were there-where the ballots were stored and had been manipulated and counted on election night 2004-before their investigation was terminated with an official letter stating that no evidence of any federal crimes had been found. It's a simple hard fact, not a spin. It is hard evidence that Mr. Rove used his position of influence to fix the FBI investigation of the 2004 Ohio Presidential election theft.

As statistical evidence that this problem is systemic, multi-state, and multi-year may I refer you to:

always be grateful to you and what you have done to help the truth get out, and to bring these criminals to justice. I just hope that justice really happens in my lifetime.

There is no issue in my lifetime that so motivated me to try to do something about it... so early on, as the president of a tiny computer services company in N. Florida... I started sending out emails to everyone I knew, warning them about what a terrible idea computer voting is... and especially with no paper trail. I wrote to every news reporter that I could find, and to every so called computer expert who would "talk" to me.

Then my husband and I watched the OHIO returns for the first BushCo election, and were stunned to see in the space of two seconds that the numbers SWITCHED from Kerry who was well in the lead, to Bush who started getting those numbers instead. I fell out of my chair and must have started kicking the furniture because my foot was bruised the next day.

Shortly after the Help America Vote Act passed, which was geared towards the disabled, Diebold gave the National Federation of the Blind a million $ donation. NFB director Jim Dickson filed lawsuits in several states to insure that computerized voting was kept in place. I did a lot of battle with Dickson. I insisted that only ONE machine for the blind needed to be available at voting sites, and that it need not be computerized.

Some of the people we worked with to change the way voting is conducted are as follows (although, much to my dismay, those affiliated with computer science departments fudged on the most important stipulations at the last moment. I think it may have had something to do with funding of their departments:

Rebecca Mercuri of Notable Software; Chuck Herrin; Brandon Adams; D. Wallach of Rice University; Dr. David Dill of Stanford; Peter G. Neuman of csl.sri.com; Avi Rubin from cs.jhu.edu; Barbara Simons of ACM; Robert Kibrick of Verifiable Voting.org;Kim Alexander, President of the California Voter Foundation; Wayne Madsen (formerly with the NSA and an expert on computer security issues); Mike Hout from Berkeley; Beverly Harris of Black Box Voting; Jeff Fisher who was running for Congress; Bridget Leininger with the Democratic Party of Arizona; Susan Marie Weber who helped with California voting machine issues; David Dudine, an Indiana activist; Russell Michaels of bathtimefilms; Attorney Alma Gonzalez; Ohio Senator Teresa Fedor via her assistant Greg Lestini; Lynn Landes, an online reporter; Clinton Curtis, who ran for the FL senate and lost (he said former FL Hse speaker Tom Feeney tried to get him to write software that could "switch the vote"; Kathy Dopp, statistician; the entire team from the computer firm AVANTE (that makes machines with paper trails); and countless reporters all over the country.

I even tried repeatedly to get in touch with Bill Moyers through his intermediary Rick Byrne, when he was one of the producers of NOW WITH BILL MOYERS.

Wayne Madsen, who writes the MADSEN REPORT, and is a computer security expert, was very helpful digging up the dirt. He wrote an investigative piece that blew me away. I’ve sent him an email asking permission to reprint the one story that is copied at only the first 20% below, because he has not answered in the past couple of hours.

Too bad there's no active link.... I can't post the jpg URL to the pic of GWB practically hugging Tom Feeney. That is just part of the Madsen story. Very interesting to me personally is the mysterious death of Ray Lemme who was found dead in a motel bathtub only a short drive from my house. I interviewed a woman deputy who works at the Valdosta Sheriff's Department, and thought that their claim that it was a suicide was decidedly hasty.

Here’s part of the Madsen article:

Texas to Florida: White House-linked clandestine operation paid for "vote switching" software

December 6, 2004—The manipulation of computer voting machines in the recent presidential election and the funding of programmers who were involved in the operation are tied to an intricate web of shady off-shore financial trusts and companies, shady espionage operatives, Republican Party politicians close to the Bush family, and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) contract vehicles.

An exhaustive investigation has turned up a link between current Florida Republican Representative Tom Feeney, a customized Windows-based program to suppress Democratic votes on touch screen voting machines, a Florida computer services company with whom Feeney worked as a general counsel and registered lobbyist while he was Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives, and top level officials of the Bush administration.

According to a notarized affidavit signed by Clint Curtis, while he was employed by the NASA Kennedy Space Center contractor, Yang Enterprises, Inc., during 2000, Feeney solicited him to write a program to "control the vote." At the time, Curtis was of the opinion that the program was to be used for preventing fraud in the in the 2002 election in Palm Beach County, Florida. His mind was changed, however, when the true intentions of Feeney became clear: the computer program was going to be used to suppress the Democratic vote in counties with large Democratic registrations.

According to Curtis, Feeney and other top brass at Yang Enterprises, a company located in a three-story building in Oviedo, Florida, wanted the prototype written in Visual Basic 5 (VB.5) in Microsoft Windows and the end-product designed to be portable across different Unix-based vote tabulation systems and to be "undetectable" to voters and election supervisors.

Yang, an engineering and computer services company subcontracted to NASA prime contractors like Lockheed Martin, was founded in 1986 by Dr. Tyng-Lin (Tim) Yang. Granted minority-owned "Section 8A" and woman-owned preferential status by the U.S. government, Yang's clients also include the Florida Department of Transportation (DOT). Yang's President, Li-Woan (Lee) Yang, is Tim Yang's wife. Feeney was the registered agent for another Yang company, Y & H Greens, Inc., a company that was dissolved in 1988 and operated from the Yangs' residence on Merritt Island. The Yangs also serve as co-trustees for an entity called Yang of Merritt Island, Ltd., founded on January 31, 2000, and also run from their residence.

In the autumn of 1999, Curtis, who served as a sort of technology adviser for Yang, first became aware of Feeney's interest in election rigging. Curtis said at one meeting, Feeney "bragged that he could reduce the minority vote and deliver the election to 'George.'" At the same meeting, according to Curtis, Feeney said he had "implemented a list that would eliminate thousands of voters that would vote for Democratic candidates" and that "a proper placement of police patrols could further reduce the black vote by as much as 25 percent."
Feeney's desire to manipulate the vote would be manifested in his home base of Volusia County in the 2000 presidential election. According to The Washington Post, at 10 p.m. on election night, Al Gore was leading Bush in Volusia County by 83,000 to 62,000 votes. One-half hour later, Gore's vote total had been reduced by 16,000 to 67,000 and an obscure Socialist candidate saw a sudden surge to 10,000 votes in a precinct with only 600 voters. The information on the Volusia optical scanner voting anomalies came from a leaked internal Diebold memorandum. In the end, Bush won Florida and the White House by a mere 537 votes in the most controversial U.S. presidential election in history.

Feeney had long been a voice in Florida GOP politics. He was gubernatorial candidate Jeb Bush's running mate in 1994, a race in which Democratic incumbent Lawton Chiles defeated Bush. Chiles once referred to Feeney as "the David Duke of Florida politics."

In 2002, Feeney asked Curtis if he could develop a touch screen voting machine "flip flop" program. According to Curtis, Feeney asked him, "Can you write a program to flip votes around on touch screen machines?" Curtis said Feeney wanted the program to merely reduce votes in heavily Democratic areas and flip Republican votes to 51 percent and keep Democrat votes to 49 percent. Curtis added that Feeney "did not want to win by a lot." In return, Curtis said Feeney offered him "big jobs." Curtis's main tasks at Yang were to develop the Florida DOT's Electronic Document Management System. He also worked on the Project Pipeline Information System at another one of Yang's major clients, Exxon Mobil's Coral Gables facility.

Curtis said he developed the voting program and eventually handed off his prototype to Feeney. The program was also reviewed by Curtis's senior coder, Hai Lin (Henry) Nee, who according to Florida Department of Transportation sources, was an illegal alien working in the United States. According Curtis, not only did Nee review the vote switching program code but he constantly downloaded sensitive data to his computer from NASA's computers. Nee, according to Curtis, moonlighted at an Orlando company called Azure Systems, described by The Orlando Sentinel as a "three person engineering firm" and one of a number of companies linked to Ting Ih-Hsu, a former Lockheed Martin employee. At the same time Nee was reviewing Yang's vote switching program, he was also being investigated by U.S. federal investigators for illegally shipping Hellfire missile parts to China. Oddly, although U.S. law enforcement agents had put Nee and his associates under surveillance for illegal exports of technology to China in 1999, he and his colleagues were not arrested until March of this year.

Thank you very much for your kind and generous reply, Aikido. Wayne Madsen has helped us in many ways since 2004. Wayne put me in touch with John Caylor who investigated the assassination of Ray Lemme, as well as with Clint Curtis. Clint Curtis flew to Columbus on December 12, 2004 so we could present his testimony, under oath, to a panel of Members of Congress and a few Ohio legislators and Columbus City Council members on the 13th, after we filed our contest of the Presidential election with the Ohio Supreme Court. Clint shared some of what Wayne wrote about in the piece you posted.

I did not know about the Diebold contribution to the NFB. The FreePress.org wrote one of several cutting edge pre 2012 election stories exposing funding patterns to influence/corrupt the expression of academic views of election technology and integrity.

I hope you are watching ABC TV's Scandal series on Thursday nights. They are telling the story, of both Presidential election rigging and strategic assassinations to cover it up, in a way that makes it understandable to ordinary people. In their wonderful character development they make key figures like Karl Rove lovable in the same way the Godfather series made those folks lovable. I think "Scandal" is transforming public consciousness of some of the hard realities of American politics today to a degree that those realities will change in our lifetime.

192. Very happy being a "NewDem" and being here on DU
Wed Apr 3, 2013, 10:52 AM
Apr 2013

Thank you, OldDem2012. I am a relatively New Dem, having changed over in 1996 from being a Republican. I had served as counsel to the Ohio Senate Republican Campaign Committee from 1980-1988 and was Ohio counsel to Bob Dole's 1988 Presidential Campaign in the Republican primary that year. I even formally and personally endorsed President George H.W. Bush for reelection in the 1992 Presidential campaign, even though he had led a full media blitz campaign in favor of my Republican Congressional opponent in the 1990 15th District of Ohio Republican primary.

It is interesting to see some of my old Republican friends and clients, such as former U.S. Rep. Bob Ney, getting "sideswiped" by "hit men" associated with today's Republican Party. Ney's very good book--right about in the middle of it--publishes my letter of July 2008 to Attorney General Mukasey seeking protection of Karl Rove's IT guru against a threat reportedly made against him by Karl Rove. Reportedly, Connell was being directed to "take the fall" for the theft of the 2004 Presidential election in Ohio. When he did not do so in his court ordered deposition with Bob Fitrakis and me, on November 5, 2008, he was reportedly assassinated by a Blackwater team on December 19, 2008.

134. More Claremont ballot rigging evidence
Thu Mar 28, 2013, 11:07 AM
Mar 2013

I still have the video of Claremont election officials counting the 26 "duplicate ballots" (they wouldn't let us "touch" them) described at the bottom of the top post on this blog: http://www.baiman.blogspot.com/
The did everything they could to block us from investigating at all and then (after Bob Fitrakis's intervention) we got them to allow to do "random" checks and these 36 "duplicate" ballots with no back-up and no reasonable explanation appeared very quickly.
It appears that your (Cliff and Richard) and FBI (if I got this right) followup (or was this earlier) revealed a lot more and why they fought so hard to keep us from looking at those ballots!

135. Is Miami County, Ohio Defiance County in SCANDAL?

Thanks, Ron, for your supplements to this thread. I am wondering if the Miami County memory card for the 2004 election that Director Quillen saved and shared with us for a demo is the now famous memory card from Defiance, Ohio as depicted in SCANDAL.

138. Miami County 2004 software
Thu Mar 28, 2013, 08:46 PM
Mar 2013

I just meant we did not have any county other than Miami where we were able to test the software that controlled the 2004 election. In SCANDAL, the journalist goes to Defiance County and finds one DRE machine that still has its memory card inside it. He runs a test, and it is clear it was programmed to switch the votes cast by the voter to the Presidential candidate for whom the Karl Rove character works.

Thanks for all your work, and especially for serving as our expert witness on the exit poll discrepancy before the Ohio Supreme Court.

No, I had not, Ron. Thanks for doing so. The written report is a little long. There was also a story on it on MSNBC with Lou Dobbs on which Bob, Harvey and Pete appeared.

I thought perhaps you had been there too, and would summarize it. Steve Quillen, the Republican Director had told Troy Seman that he had saved the software and would share it with us. Both Quillen and Troy's dad had served in military intelligence. That software is what came to my mind when I saw Scandal's Defiance County episode.

We think the ES&S patch that the OSOS tried to secretly attach for the counting of half the votes in the Ohio 2012 election may be the current equivalent to the Defiance County patch depicted in scandal--except that its performance was nixed at the last minute on advice of counsel that would most certainly be exposed in a post election audit. When I moved for leave to file a surreply in connection with the OSOS's motion to dismiss our complaint, I cited SCANDAL's exposure of election theft in Ohio as reason for Ohio lawyers and judges to do their part to make sure such things do not go on in Ohio. The judge granted our motion.

Ah Yes!

I was scheduled to be on that show with Bob and Pete - but the Dobbs folks decided to replace me at the last minute with Harvey.
None of us had anything to do with this - I think it was a "media marketing" decision - plus they may have realized that Harvey is a better public speaker!

251. Bobby Kennedy's tribute to the stature of Harvey Wasserman
Mon Apr 8, 2013, 09:51 PM
Apr 2013

Don't feel badly about that, Ron.

Years ago I went to Ohio State's Hillel Society to hear Bobby Kennedy, Jr. speak. For the first five minutes of his very interesting presentation, Kennedy talked about how privileged he felt to be in the presence of Harvey Wasserman! Harvey is a national figure of considerable fame and stature.

I believe from that first meeting for me with both Bobby and Harvey that Harvey's involvement in coverage of the 2004 election is what brought about Kennedy's and Rolling Stone Magazine's truly outstanding presentation of the theft of the 2004 Presidential election. But for the thoroughness of Karl Rove's media control strategy, the Rolling Stone article would have had the same kind of break through effect upon public consciousness as ABC TV's Scandal series is now having.

Precisely. I made this very point with David Plouffe at the Ohio Democratic Party Headquarters. I referred him to Dick Russell's conversation with John Kerry in which Kerry admitted knowing that he had won in 2004. It's in Governor Jesse Ventura's "American Conspiracies," Chapter 11, as I recall.

Sun Apr 7, 2013, 12:51 PM
Apr 2013

The most interesting thing about Richard Charnin's bringing together and reporting of the scientific exit poll data for the last quarter century is that the anti-democratic policies of the Republican Party would have prevented them from being politically competitive. The Republican Party would have had to have moved to the center in order to survive.

Thank you very much, octoberlib, for your contribution! I like your signature line, quoting President Harry Truman.

President Truman appointed my great uncle, James McPherson Proctor, to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals. Proctor was a Republican and had been appointed to the D.C. District Court by President Hoover.

When I was seven years old, we were in the audience with President Truman when Eddie Fisher, accompanied by the U.S. Army Band, sang my mother's song, "It's Spring Again," at the Carter Baron amphitheater. What a fond memory!

My favorite Truman line is his response to a supporter who yelled out: "Give 'em Hell, Harry!" to which Truman replied, "I don't give them Hell. I just tell the truth about them and they think it's Hell."

Today's Republicans are not Lincoln/TR/Eisenhower Republicans--they are Rove/Koch Republicans. They oppose a democratic/republican form of government. They are hostile to the Constitution. They support global corporate ownership of our elections and our governments. They're nuts!

239. How interesting!

We just had a Republican takeover in NC. Of course, the first thing they did was introduce a voting rights bill, getting rid of same day voting, early voting, straight ticket voting and penalizing parents by taking away their tax exemptions if their children attending college vote in NC but aren't residents. Interestingly, they want to LOOSEN restrictions on absentee voting. Republicans seem to love this form of voting. It makes me suspicious. What the Republicans have done to our electoral system is just appalling.

The short video posted by WhoIsNumberNone consists of excerpts of our 7/17/2008 news conference was taken by Brett Kimberlin of VR. The pitch for funds at the end is outdated, inasmuch as VR's principal funder has advised us they will no longer support our litigation to shut down election fraud.

Our video of this important Columbus, OH news conference in which we targeted Karl Rove, features Stephen Spoonamore, friend and colleague of Michael Connell, Karl Rove's IT Guru, via speaker phone from D.C.

Here is the link for the entire news conference covered, among others by the Statehouse Bureau Chief of Associated Press and the Columbus Dispatch: http://archive.org/details/ElectionFraudInOhioCourtCase

287. More common than reported by electronic voting systems

If a majority of voters are the measure of common sense, then according to the exit polls, they consistently vote for Democratic candidates. The 6 point red shift from cheating, that Richard Charnin documents, is necessary for the Republican Presidential candidates to have a chance of "winning."

Independent analysis by Richard Charnin and Beth Clarkson confirm that official election results cannot represent voter intent. Both can document this in many states (Charnin's work is more comprehensive, going back to key races since 1988). We will see an attempt to hijack the 2016 election and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker is likely the chosen one.

Don't fool yourself -- he is a dangerous candidate. More below
