They were told the banks would be open the following Tues, so folks were waiting for.
Come Tuesday, no banks open but ATMs were allowing small withdrawals of 400.00
then withdrawals were dropped to 100.00 as the week wore on.

When the banks DO open, they will have the controls that I wrote about here:

That is what MF Global was all about....1.2 or 1.6 billion bucks jsut..disappeared, of investor's money, and the head of the fund,
John Corazine, walks around to this day.

Of course, as long as Bernanke keeps savings rates invisibly low, you could say we are getting our savings stolen also.
Between no interest and hidden inflation, we are losing billions in purchasing power.

Now Cyprus has just shown the world that gov't, via the banks no longer have to keep their "contract" with depositors.

no safe haven for any money.

How could anyone expect this to go smoothly??? This is a really bad idea that will set a precedent that should make us all nervous.

been a member of the Russian/Ukrainian community for 30 years.

The Russian mob (including Putin) keeps loads of thier money in Cypriot banks...And the bankers just tried to give depositors a 10 or 15 % "haircut" on their deposits.

Expect to see a lot more of this activity (and maybe a few burning bankers) real soon.

All them Italian/Irish/Jewish mobsters??

They got NOTHING on the Ruskies.

Just ask that fucker in England.

My friend sez to stay out of Cyprus for a while.

I have read words to that effect all over the web this last week.
did not know how seriously to take it.

Wonder if it is any tie-in with the death of the Boris Berezovsky?????

RT has a good interview about him..

Over in Cyprus, there are reports of a small explosion causing a fire at a Bank of Cyprus branch tonight.

Cypriot TV Station Sigma has some details here, and contacts in Cyprus reckon it's true (and not a major explosion either)

According to Sigma's report, an "improvised explosive device exploded at a branch of Bank of Cyprus in Polemidia", creating a small fire at the branch.

No reports of any injuries.
