2. What was the behavior that needed an apology?

eta: OK, I googled and the apology was for having the race go through the b-52 memorial where US airmen died and not being sensitive about it. I'm probably not doing the issue justice, but there it is.

They were doing a show where they had to find a clue by a downed b52. they also were sang to by children singing about the glory of communism. Basically, the perfect storm of feces hitting an oscillating fan.

I'm surprised the producers didn't think better of it, really.

To get back on topic (now that I know what it is) The Amazing Race should not have done that. We have had normalized relations with Vietnam for quite some time now. Vets should get over it. Are Great Britain, Mexico, Japan, Italy, and Germany off limits, as well?

Apparently, the Vietnamese aren't allowed to be proud of their chosen and fought for system of governance around Americans. Maybe they should have sung tributes to Ngo Dinh Diem instead.

10. A lot of VN vets have made return visits there

Some as volunteers in humanitarian projects, some as tourists. I went back for three month-long visits and had a wonderful time.

From the description of what happened on the show, I'd have a hard time working up any outrage at all.

13. It has to be, as the Op says, the false outrage crowd.

I've known several Vietnam Vets who visited Vietnam since the war ended. Every one of them glowed when they talked about how beautiful the country was, how warm and welcoming the people were, how utterly without bitterness (at least toward the men who had done the fighting).

I'm guessing the screeching is being done by the chickenhawk armchair warriors.

Amazing Race should have issued an on-air "Fuck you chairborne rangers; we'll film where we fucking want!..."

when I saw the children doing the Communist mottos. I think the b52 would have been OK if it was alone but combined with the school children I knew they were going to set off a firestorm. The market was a riot.

our hooch and listen to the bombs explode near Long Binh. You could not see or here the planes but you could hear the bombs explode. It sounded like someone beating kettle drums. The horizon glowed red all along the ground for hundreds of yards.

One B-52D had over 60,000 lbs of bombs carried internally and under the wings, The B-52 that was shot down was part of a 100 plane raid called Linebacker II, it was ordered by Nixon in Dec 1972, 6,000,000 lbs of bombs fell in one day on Hanoi and Haiphong.

As a Vietnam vet I see no need to apologize to me. That war should never have happened.

A friend of mine, a Vietnam Marine Vet said the Vietnamese called the B-52s Silent Death. They flew so high that no one heard them until the bombs exploded.

Not being a Nam Vet I don't really have the right to opin on this but I think it's just pout-rage.
