Santorum to Naples audience: Obama, Bush not strong enough against Islam

True to his reputation, Republican 2012 presidential candidate Rick Santorum didn’t shy away from controversy Friday night during a speech in Naples.

“He (Santorum) is, as you know, a bit of a lightning rod,” said Rick Borman, host of the Naples Town Hall Distinguished Speakers Series at the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort in North Naples.

Santorum, a former U.S. senator, Congressman and New York Times Best Selling Author, said he found that Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama lacked leadership in defending the U.S. against the threats of radical Islam.

He described Obama’s recent support of Israel’s apology to Turkey a “reward for bad behavior” with Turkey growing more Islamist in its approach to government.

Further, Santorum said, Obama is in a state of denial by claiming that faith and religion have nothing to do with the wars between the U.S. and Middle East.

“Bush did a better job understanding it and a worse job communicating it,” Santorum said, adding that Bush’s mistake was using the War on Terror euphemism.

I'm sorry, I completely forget the rest of the article as that one floored me. I'm going to guess he wrote an illustrated picture book full of bracken? Published him memoirs as a two time loser? OH I mean statesman?

It Takes a Family: Conservatism and the Common Good

It Takes a Family is a 2005 book by then Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum. The title is a response to the 1996 book It Takes a Village by then-First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton. In the book, Santorum states that the family structure is necessary. He claims that liberal social policies have devastated the family structure and that prevailing socially liberal attitudes have systematically devalued families across the board. He argues that government should take a proactive role in promoting strong families.

Many reviews were critical of Santorum's work. Claiming that Santorum's social vision was anything but innovative or refreshing, one reviewer for The Philadelphia Inquirer referred to Santorum as "one of the finest minds of the Thirteenth Century". Writing for American Prospect Online, reviewer Mark Schmitt argues that the book fails to present a unified case for how social conservatism is served by laissez-faire economic policies, yet urges readers to commit to both; he also asserts that the author offers several solutions already proposed by his opposition, while criticizing the opposition's failure to provide solutions.[5]

Santorum's statements in the book about radical feminism and working women gained more attention when he ran for president last year.
