An old Soho hotel opened with a new decor this week: At the world's first "edible hotel," you could literally eat the furnishings during your stay.
What if your idea of a great vacation or just a sweet stayover in a hotel was being able to enjoy junk food to your heart's content? What if we told you that a sugar company in London created just such an ultimate getaway for someone who loves cake and confection?
The Daily Mail reported Friday, March 22, Tate & Lyle Sugars created the world's first "edible hotel" to display the eight new brands of Fairtrade sugar they're unveiling, giving the rooms of the hotel an international flavor, basing the cakes, confections, and varied treats on several regions around the globe. There were fudge sills, cake carpet, caramel-popcorn-filled bathtubs. Visitors ate their way through sponge pillows and macaroon-festooned walls. There was even a rug made of 1,081 meringues and 20 kilos of marshmallows.
One room in the basement of the hotel had a Mayan motif with a fudge temple. A "Pirates of the Caribbean"-inspired room came complete with a treasure chest full of rum and raisin chocolate brownies and tea cakes, ginger spiced doubloons and cutlasses, and, of course, edible pearls. In another nod to the Caribbean, a Barbadian-style library was filled with hand-painted cookies, edible shells, and under glass fruit cakes.

(2,547 posts)I don't know where to start.
The first one that entered my mind would never make it past the jury.
Does the carpet match the drapes? No, the carpet is cake, and the drapes are spun sugar.
Hell, I don't even want to lay down on a hotel bedspread.... ever seen the thing with the black light?
I hope this wasn't at a clothing optional resort.
Do they have a problem with insects.. notably sugar ants?
Hello room service.. I'm feeling a little peckish.. could you have housekeeping bring up a few more hand towels?
