The Hindenburg. The Titanic. Michele Bachmann.
Eighteen months ago, the Minnesota House member was considered an unlikely but undeniable Republican rising star, winning the Iowa straw poll that unofficially begins the primary season. Today, she is embroiled in a litany of legal proceedings related to her rolling disaster of a presidential campaignincluding a Office of Congressional Ethics investigation into campaign improprieties that has not previously been reported.

The Daily Beast has learned that federal investigators are now interviewing former Bachmann campaign staffers nationwide about alleged intentional campaign-finance violations. The investigators are working on behalf of the Office of Congressional Ethics, which probes reported improprieties by House members and their staffs and then can refer cases to the House Ethics Committee.
I have been interviewed by investigators, says Peter Waldron, a former Bachmann staffer whos embroiled in his own fight with his former boss, involving his allegations of pay-to-play politics and improper payments by the campaignmaking him one of several members of Bachmanns inner circle whove fallen out with the woman they once hoped would become commander in chief. While he was careful to avoid specifics in regard to the investigating body, Waldron said that investigators came [and] interviewed me and are interviewing other staff members across the country.....more

(1,515 posts)Just last week, I heard on Minnesota Public Radio (MPR) that the DFL (that's the Democratic party in Minnesota) is already recruiting candidates for what they believe are two possible wins for the U.S. House in '14 (Kline and Bachmann).
That is early here.
With redistricting of the 2nd to include more of the southern Twin Cities metro (parts of St. Paul, which have been DFL-friendly), the initial reports were that Kline might be most vulnerable in '14 (Bachmann gets the headlines, but Kline is just as bad or perhaps worse). But Bachmann barely took the 6th in '12, in a district which had been redistricted to make it even redder that it was. And she has been very quiet since dropping out of the Presidental race.
And now this. Guess the '14 race has already started here.

Trust me, I am way out of her district, let alone state... which meant zero, and I mean zero sense.

(154,021 posts)by law they are different lists. they have to be.
I actually have subscribed to both for my local Congressman... and they are actually different at times in content. Partly, the news releases for Media mean to get us media critters all kinds of expectant and hoping to get to them and transcribe their pearls of wisdom
In case you have not noticed, my cynicism level has gone through the roof. But at times you get lied to... and then you have to go check to make sure you were not lied to.
Her's were meant for media were down right... funny. I think I got those 'cause well, she was running for Preznit and shit.

It all must have been true.
Poor Michelle, please don't bring her to Gitmo, those prisoners have had enough torture to last a life time without her being there.

(11,519 posts)I have a hunch it's her staffers that didn't get paid/had to fight to get paid that are talking. If she just hadn't tried to stiff them maybe she wouldn't be in this mess now.

(75,480 posts)I hope they understand that I'm just looking for the humor in things. But she had some pretty fancy clothes on the campaign trail. I understand that her husband Marcus picks out all her clothes and acts as her stylist. I wonder if he's got matching outfits for himself and when they are alone in their bedroom, if they don't play dress alike? Maybe that's why they couldn't pay the staff. Those are expensive designer duds she wears.

HELLO...
It's a Repub Congress!! They can't unload Bachmann fast enough. If this one doesn't bring their desired results, look for other "investigations" on her.
Poor Michele...she served their purpose when they thought it would be beneficial. Now, the Repubs are desperately trying to shed the crazy ones.
Too late...they own them. Look for Ryan, Cantor, etc... to be sacrificed soon.

(21,925 posts)that prompted the investigation was a Republican staffer. This is a Republican show, yet many of the message board comments on other sites blast Obama for going after Bachmann.

I am glad she didn't make it anywhere in her bid to become the next pResident, but stiffing the people who worked on her campaign...that is pretty nasty. If the investigation actually goes anywhere, the folks in her state might get a chance to get an improvement in who they elect to represent them. We can only hope for...buh buy, Ms. Bachmann
