Cleveland National Air Show canceled for 2013 because of federal cuts (Repubs in meltdown mode)

Cleveland National Air Show canceled for 2013 because of federal budget cuts

March 25, 2013 at 2:26 PM

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland National Air Show has become a victim of the "sequester," as federal budget cuts that took effect at the beginning of the month have forced the cancellation of the annual Labor Day event.

Organizers of the air show issued a news release today announcing its cancellation. It's the first time the air show won't be held in Cleveland since its first event in 1964, said air show spokeswoman Kim Dell.

“After considering the effect this will have on programming, attendance and the financial viability of producing a 2013 event, the Executive Committee of Cleveland National Air Show Inc. Board of Trustees made the decision to cancel this year’s Air Show," Chuck Newcomb, executive director of the show, said in the news release. "Though regrettable, this action is viewed to be in the long term best interest of the Air Show, the City of Cleveland and the valued fans that annually attend the event.”

The air show attracts 60,000 to 100,000 visitors to Burke Lakefront Airport. It has an annual economic impact of $7.1 million.

They all thought that cuts would only effect the so called free loader welfare moochers.

This one is amusing:

Funny how you like to point out wasted money, but you miss the fact that the Air Show is nothing but wasted money. But, apparently you like Air Shows, so it's money well spent in your estimation.

And this one fits right into what I am saying above:
Typical government solution. Let's take away things that the working taxpayers can enjoy so that we can keep shoveling money to the freeloaders.

Speaking of wasting money, the Blue Angels, Thunderbirds etc...are a huge waste of fuel and tax payer money. If you absolutely need to see these planes, youtube has all the videos you need.

because people can't go watch an air show. I mean really, the air shows are generally just another racial entitlement for WASP-y suburbanites anyway.

If they want sell those things as "recruiting" then fine. Call it that and put it in the recruiting budget. Otherwise, suck it up. They should take a look at the bands and other things too as areas to cut.

They get what they wish for and they're still not happy. Next time, republicans, try and think things through just a wee bit!

I am a big NFL fan, but why do they have flyovers? For that matter, I hate the Super Bowl halftime shows.
