They would cheer. Then they would blame their lack of money on Liberals and that Kenyan Socialist.

Pretty much exactly like the second to last paragraph in the article says, and yet the cognitive dissonance didn't make this one's head explode.

He's the type to always try to bait everybody into a political argument; a true believer conservative. He was railing about the high gasoline prices and trotted out the same usual talking points: Obama's "new regulations" preventing new refineries from being built, taxing energy companies. All Obama's fault blah blah blah. Another co-worker, then another challenged him and mentioned the tax breaks energy companies were getting, asked him specifically just what regulations, new or otherwise he was speaking of. I felt safe enough to chime in and mentioned that the supplies of oil are being deliberately limited to keep prices high, refineries were being run at less capacity, and in any case they are selling oil overseas, further reducing supplies. Dummy puffs his chest out and boldly declares they are a business, and as such, have a right to chase highest profits. I turned slowly to him, blinked my eyes and paused ( for effect ) and asked him "Sooo, then I guess you're OK with the high price of gas? Not 3 minutes ago you were bitching about them."

He did not see the irony.

Sociopathic is the correct word. I find it pretty remarkable that the political culture has people who are proud to say they can feel no emotion or empathy for others.
