Rather incredible juxtaposition - we are tossing 1.5M at the failed product of a wealthy family...later in the show they show a severely disfigured soldier who fought in the war based upon Bush (useless)'s lies. Just perfect.
Once again we are reminded of the foul, vile nature of he who was never truly elected president.

(36,974 posts)WASHINGTON (AP) Being the leader of the free world is an expensive proposition. But the costs dont stop once you leave the White House.
The nonpartisan Congressional Research Service says the federal government spent nearly $3.7 million on former presidents last year. That covers a $200,000 pension, compensation and benefits for office staff, and other costs like travel, office space and postage.
The costliest former president? George W. Bush, who clocked in at just over $1.3 million. That includes almost $400,000 for 8,000 square feet of office space and $85,000 in telephone costs.
President Bill Clinton came in second at just under $1 million, followed by George H.W. Bush at nearly $850,000. Costs for Jimmy Carter, the only other living former president, came in at about $500,000.

(15,540 posts)What does he need an office for anyway? Doesn't he spend all his time in his bathroom painting pictures of himself?
Office space - give me a break. The idiot didn't do anything worthwhile when he had the Oval Office, now we should support him?
We'll save some money when his old man finally shuffles off the planet.

(52,162 posts)ex Presidents have expenses and engagements that they otherwise wouldn't have and we should pay for those. It also isn't befitting to have ex Presidents live in poverty as they did as lately as Truman (he is the reason Presidents have pensions etc.)

(35,392 posts)(how many times have we been reminded that, while he was on vacation, George W. Bush was "working"? Oh, right - "I don't give a damn about the working-class-level military personnel; now watch me hit this golf ball"
but no RWer is complaining about Dumbya costing $1.5M just by sitting on his drunk ass. Imagine if he actually tried to do something ...
