Per Reuters: https://twitter.com/Reuters/status/317788568351289344

SEOUL, March 29 (Yonhap) -- North Korea announced Saturday that it has entered a state of war against South Korea.

In a special statement, the North said it will deal with every inter-Korean issue in a wartime manner.

The US did NOT fly "B-52's over"

The flyover was by B-2 bombers, a COMPLETELY different airplane, and one that flew all the way from Missouri and returned, non stop, to complete the mission.

You may think this is a minor detail, but I assure you it isn't, neither from a strategic perspective nor a diplomatic one.

Get it right, for fucks sake

They also did not fly over North Korea.

But to be accurate, some B-52 also flew from Diego Garcia like they have been doing for decades v

and involves the fakery of "We are at WAR!!!" to get them to accept even more privation. Whether or not it works is anyone's guess.

The truth is that they've been holding a truce in an ongoing war. While I think Li'l Kim is insane, it remains to be seen if he's insane enough to do something about it and whether or not it will be allowed by his fluffers and yesmen, who are presumably a little less insane.

since the Korean War started. Technically it never ended, just under an armistice.

More saber rattling by Kim Jong-un. I think he is trying to support his reign by giving the military a push, thus get them to support him. Things are bad in NK.

The armistice wasn't an end of war but rather an agreement to put it on hold, much as one would pause a video clip. They have been at war for 63 years. You can't declare war when you are still at war.

They can back out of the armistice, but all that does is hit "play" on the video clip. What they don't seem to comprehend is that every other country in the world has moved ahead by 60 years since the armistice went into effect. N. Korea took a couple of baby steps and fell over.

I honestly can't tell if they're completely clueless or just on a suicide mission.

That makes them both completely clueless and on an unintentional suicide mission. Decades of self delusion will be erased by harsh reality should they lash out at their neighbors.

Economic realities far overshadow political ideology on this one. S. Korea is a major player here. I'm sure China's trying to get them to take a chill pill, but I doubt it will happen. The child king is young, but the generals pulling his puppet strings are growing old. If they're going to finish their war, I'm sure they'll be happy to die in the failed attempt.

There could be a silver lining here. If the "leaders" (dictators) do something stupid and we wipe out the military facilities, perhaps there will be only one Korea in a few years and the people of the former N. Korea will actually get FOOD again. Wait until they discover what electricity, heat, communications, and the Internet are like! That should be a trip.

I could be wrong but I don't see this as any change in the North Korean position.

I see this as puffery by an impudent young dictator who may be being challenged by his military. This is his way of showing off for his people that he is "tough".
