Exxon oil pipline burst in Arkansas, evacuations under way

Last edited Fri Mar 29, 2013, 10:53 PM - Edit history (3)

They're already marching out XL pipeline advocate, Rep. Tim Griffin to assure us it's been contained and that no further spillage will occur into lake Conway.

Edit for terrible reporting: This is in Mayflower. Near the city of Conway, in central Arkansas. I don't know which pipeline it is, other than a Canada-Texas crude line.

One more, tweeted from Arkansas' own self appointed voice of Christ, Sen. Jason Rapert:

And the more that we try to move heavy oil around, the more dangerous it is.

once it settles into the ground and the homes concrete and basements. I don't care how much cleanup they do, the smell never will. They are going to have to dig out all that soil.

Download them while they are still up on the news sites. They may not stick around. Our local news is very...cooperative with our legislators.

stuff and that's the first time I saw that getting that far loose into a residential area.

That was poor construction. I doubt they took fault lines in the region into account, either. Arkansas has a potential as a great place to live but the environment looks to be in line for the same kind of abuse as Louisiana.

We used to pride ourselves on our state's natural resources, but we're becoming a model Koch-state with the EPA letting Georgia Pacific dump into the water. Cancer spikes are occurring around the plant too. Now the frackers are everywhere. It's going to be a wasteland.

you get the local boys who get the bright idea to create a massive hog farm within 500 feet of a major tributary of the Buffalo River -- one of the few remaining clean rivers in the nation. They used deceit and a number of shady corporate tricks to set things up so that construction would be underway before the community became aware of their dastardly deed.

This is in Mt. Judea, in the poorest county in our state.

They don't care.

You could paint the world with black crude and they wouldn't care as long as it didn't hurt the bottom line, which this won't.

The WORLD is Exxon's (and every other producers) "back yard." Petroleum is involved and used in far more than gasoline.

That hamburger helper you ate last night.... The cow was wrapped in it, the noodles were packed in it, the box was made with it, and it was all delivered by boats/trains/trucks powered by it. You could even break it down further saying the grass the cow ate was fertilized with it, the the plastic was made by petro powered equipment, the computers that organized the shipments were built with it....... Nearly EVERYTHING we touch today has some involvement with petroleum and petrochemicals.

people who live in the area. How horrible. Wherever there is a pipeline, there will be a spill or leak. It's just a matter of when.
