(11,012 posts)at seventeen months.
It's not that I was foul mouthed -- in fact, I kept a very clean mouth, mostly. Except for those times, usually during the height of tourist season when some idiot would nearly create an accident that would have killed both my infant and myself trying to get somewhere by ignoring traffice laws and common sense. That's when the little sobriquet for a suicidal, idjit, so-called driver would slip with shocked vehemence from between my lips. And as we all know, the little ones have BIG ears for words uttered with passion...
I learned very quickly to say something like you son of a hickeydoomajigger!

(8,462 posts)Then a ballerina.
She also scared some people at the baby store at couple months ago (she is now 6 and a half). We were getting diapers for her little brother and the diapers are on slanted rolling racks so they can load them from the back. She started pushing the rows up and they would fall back. A bunch of people doing registry scanning came by and I asked my daughter why the boxes come back down when she pushes them. She said the wheels. I said the wheels help but what makes them move on the wheels? She said Gravity? The people stopped and went silent. It was awesome.
Now I have to figure out how to get her to have as much enthusiasm when I put reading practice words on her paper lunch sack as when I put her kindergarten addition and subtraction on it.
The yelling eat your veggies or stop taking the iPod from your brother will be forgotten. But not the above stories.

(50,566 posts)When the kids are little, they say the days are long but the years are short. That is true. Once you're done with the diaper stage time just accelerates into a blur. But you do always have those memories of things like the gravity explanation.

Once you have children, everything is a heartbreak waiting to happen.

(24,544 posts)I went willingly into war zones before I had kids. I lived by myself in some of the most dangerous cities/parts of the world and didn't think nothing of it.
Now, I worry about the soap I wash my babies in!! I have to laugh to keep from crying. I cannot believe how much having kids changes you. But I wouldn't trade it or them for anything in this world.

(10,597 posts)You will soon know the true meaning of pure JOY. Before you know it, you will be bringing them home. Strapping her into her little car seat, taking pictures, trying to figure out who she looks like, wondering what color her eyes will eventually be, counting her toes and fingers.
Drink it all in!
