Woman kills her two deaf and dumb children, commits suicide

Woman kills her two deaf and dumb children, commits suicide

Unable to witness the plight of her two deaf and dumb children, a 30-year-old woman allegedly killed them before committing suicide in Hamirpur district.

According to the sources, the woman was upset over the disabilities of the children.

Husband of the woman works in Shimla while she was living with the minor children in Jharrajputan village of the district, police said.

Last night, she allegedly fed Sulphas tablets to the two children and later consumed it herself, police said.

This story is tragic on a lot of levels, just like the unthinking use of the word "dumb" in the story.

And what desperate people are willing to do in certain cases?

Stigma, and humans judging each other as "less than"... have many consequences. Most, NOT GOOD.

We live in an evil world at times.

Men, women, rich, poor, etc treat each other terribly.

We go to war for profit and kill kids. We continue with drone strikes that kill innocents on a regular basis.

You think this story is bad? It is. And it is shocking in it's violence and the harm it did to innocents.

Yet the people responsible for our 'wars' walk free.

There is oppression from the few on the many. And nothing happens to them.

I could re-write this story and many others and replace woman/man/etc with government and people wouldn't care --- example, I posted a story some time ago about yemen covering up our drone strikes on innocent people.

No one cared. No real news coverage. No replies and kicks. We just accepted murder in our name and moved on. When someone else kills we expect justice and get outraged.

We want people to be equal, to be safe - and the very people keeping folks down and killing others for profit skate - and instead of attacking them we attack each other and end up fearing one another while looking for protection from each other by the very people out there killing.

We are more outraged by people showing their breasts, the pope, pit bulls, etc than killing of children and others using our money.

We can multi-task, it just seems we don't at times.

Just a day or so ago another mother in Delhi and her three children died being hit by a train - it was reported as 'she jumped in front of it'. The husband said it must have been an accident, but the police filed it as suicide.

India is a very sad place lately.

NEVER use the term of deaf and dumb into the single same sentence ever again. I am deaf and I will not accept the term of dumb because that term is long dead, last used in 1970's.

Don't ever use it again. Understand? I sure as hell hope so.

You should have warn ahead by saying like this, "author was the one who wrote deaf and dumb, not me."

That way I don't have to type the direct response to you. It's not your fault and I am sorry if I offend you but please understand that deaf people doesn't appreciate the word "dumb".

Thank you.

And don't worry about direct responses. I have no problem replying

I generally leave headlines intact when posting (as many do) but certainly not always (some just don't describe the story well enough).

You did not offend me. It is fairly common on sites I post at to at least keep the headline for the article as it appears at the source and in fact in our breaking news section under the about section you will see "Use the published title of the story as the title of the discussion thread."

Here in this forum the rule is not the same (but as noted I try to keep it the same, does not always work out and maybe in this case I should have changed it but the story still used the term regardless of what I might have changed it to).

And again, welcome to DU.

No good purpose is served by preserving terms that offensive in American English. If you're trying to generate negative comments focused on the terminology rather than a discussion of the sad story itself, this is a great way to effect that.
