Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) just sent out an email to her supporters responding to President Obamas budget, which includes a chained CPI that would cut Social Security and veterans benefits.
Warren says shes shocked by Obamas proposal, which would amount to a fancy way to say cut benefits for seniors, the permanently disabled, and orphans. Read Warrens full e-mail below:

(82,383 posts)But, since Boner says no anyway, she won't have that test come up.
Some day she is going to be between a rock and a hard place, and it will be interesting to see what she does.
For instance, here, we are going to be without a budget, right? Eventually that will be more harmful that a chained CPI.

(18,421 posts)She'd vote against chained CPI. Clearly and easily. As would anyone with a conscience.

(62,325 posts)and some real democratic leadership, there would no chance of either happening.
If Warren were to become a betrayer also and vote against everything she has claimed to stand for, she would be finished politically.
I don't think the Democratic leadership has grasped what this has done. This was always going to be the last straw, a betrayal on SS. So many of us who worked so hard for so long to get Democrats elected, despite many disappointments along the way, always had one line that could not be crossed and that was SS.
If Congressional Democrats do not distance themselves now from this President on this issue, there will be be an unprecedented exodus from the Democratic Party. Maybe it's time we have tolerated far too much for far too long. And it's clear the Democratic Leadership despises the Left anyhow. I think this has become what will be a historical change in the dynamics of party politics. Everyone I talk to is ready now for something new, for real change.
I don't know who advised this president that SS was no longer the 'third rail of politics' but whoever it was should be fired.
Paul Ryan told George Bush the same thing in 1995 and Bush believed it. He set out on what was going to be a fifty state tour, using what he thought was his 'political capital' to try to do what this president thought he could do. Bush never made it past a few states before being sent home by the American people, Republicans AND Democrats.
There is a reason why SS has been called the 'third rail of politics'.
He never should have done this.

You have to be willing to filibuster it even though it comes from your own party.
Hope Sen Warren will be willing to go that step further.
I am glad either way that she is at least speaking out against this.

(57,936 posts)on our side. I wonder whether Obama's mother-in-law is on Social Security. Her husband may have left her a public employee's pension. In any event, living in the White House, the Obama's would not realize what it means to live on Social Security.
I bet that if his mother-in-law is on Social Security, she may be the only person that Obama sees on a regular basis who relies on that check every month for most or all of his or her income.
This is a blind spot in Obama's vision, a huge blind spot.
SammyWinstonJack
(44,130 posts)President...she not.
There is where his blind spot come in.
Maybe he thinks all seniors have some additional income in addition to their EARNED benefits from SS.
Or maybe he is just a corporate tool who really doesn't give a $hit about how hard it is to exist on SS alone.

I know they have infested the entertainment industry, now we know they even have agents in the Senate. We need some sort of House Committee on Un-American Activities to find all the emoprog leftist traitors!

But I do know there is a professional leftist commie eprog infestation that must be dealt with! It is very disturbing, did you know that some 80% of the population is part of this lefty conspiracy? They have the gaul to disagree with the serious, sensible cuts that Obama is proposing so he can save us!
They are giving Republicans just what they want!

That's the most likely result in 2016, she'll win as much states as gore did and with 2010 demographic changes the EV's count up to 257. The last time we tried a far left candidates we burned and crashed. Ex: McGovern, Mondale, Dukakis, Kerry. I don't hate either of them but i want to win, i'd rather we have moderate candidates(*cough* bill *cough obama) with broad based appeal who might upset me a little then ideological candidates who have little chance of winning the swing states who end up giving the election to the other guy.

(10,745 posts)But I wasn't so aware of the truth then.
The truth is, no matter what kind of language Obama may or may not openly use, what I have said is the truth. I do very much hope that chained CPI doesn't pass, even due to the bullheadedness of many Republicans, but to say that Obama truly does support cutting SS is misinformation at best......and, dare I say, perhaps reminiscent(even if not intentionally!) of GOP agitprop at the worst.
