(11,417 posts)hope to hurt Dems with. Repubs never tell the truth. Whether they support it or not they will use it against Dems. Obama gave them the opportunity. Now we have to challenge it, something that never should have happened in the first place.

(62,325 posts)fantastic issue this is for them until after the 2014 elections. Then of course they will use it in a different way, they will claim that 'even Democrats were on board with cutting SS benefits'. But meantime the know the public has a short memory and we now have them running around claiming to be the defenders of Seniors.

(62,325 posts)Party?? I've never seen worse strategy anywhere, assuming this is not what they want, to give Republicans a fantastic issue for the next election.

(62,325 posts)anymore. Boy did he find out what happens when you touch that rail. He was sent home packing and the Left was completely united and totally effective in making sure he did just that. His 50 state tour on SS ended after one or two I believe.

(30,439 posts)but they absolutely suck at budget negotiations. They start out by giving the other side 90% of what they want. We saw that in the debt ceiling debacle in 2011 and we're seeing it now with the budget negotiations.
They act as if they lost the election. The American people chose Obama BECAUSE they thought he would better defend social programs from assault.
Now they hand them this issue for the 2014 election.

(34,845 posts)And Norquist calls CCPI a 'tax increase'.
This is not going to result in Republicans marching forth to protect SS. It's not.

(62,325 posts)let this happen. I guess she saw Bachmann (R)and Greg Walden (R) rushing out to say how shocked they are that the President would try to reduce the deficit on the 'backs of seniors'. They are SHOCKED they say, that anyone would so such a thing.
And we know they are lying, but most seniors and others dependent on SS, only hear that the President proposed cuts to their SS checks and the Republicans are saying 'no, we will not do that to Srs'. I would love to know who thought up this strategy. Whoever they are they need to be fired.

(47,803 posts)Remember that little thing when the Republican candidates jumped on Obama for "Cutting Medicare" and how the GOP was going to protect it for seniors?
Sure they were spouting bullshit, but they've had a lot of success over the years with bullshit. Why hand them more to work with?

(13,257 posts)The Repubs are tying Chained CPI around Obama's neck, and now the WH is saying Obama included it only because the Repubs asked him to.
Neither answer speaks well of Obama.

(13,591 posts)...he could just say, "Oh, you don't want it? It's gone."
But that probably won't happen either.
It was a terrible political blunder to put it out in the first place.
