It's nice to see lefty progressives stirring the pot

if we have one major deficiency,
its not stirring it enough. Witness the steady swing of both parties to the right.

It's crucial to let the passion of Occupy, SS cuts, Monsanto, Keystone, fracking etc., continue to evolve and get people activated. only then might something actually change. Far from "whining" people like Bernie Sanders are attempting to break the atrophy and apathy that is killing us.

Please keep stirring the pot!

I suppose it depends upon the time frame that we are talking about.
I am taking the 30 + years of the Conservative revival and you can see a definite change to the right in the attitudes of ordinary citizens.
The rise of fundamentalism in the same time frame reflects that personal change.
I am not debating where the change came from, corporate bosses right wing politics. just observing it.

The brazenness & arrogance of the nutty politics that we've been seeing is evidence, imo, that ownership is now in place & these corporate-bought politicians have no fear of any reprisals. The richest & most powerful bought the government on the day a diseased horned toad was served to the public by SCOTUS in a jump-start effort to begin getting rid of the 'pesky guests' at their trough. Eat it or else! They can't be fired because they're the owners.

The rise of fundamentalism is a product of the PTB's (very-unfortunately successful) propaganda campaign to whip this country into a frenzy & constant state of fear.

There has been a rightward lurch in the country's politics. We may or may not agree that the peoples attitudes shifted right along with the GOP and the general political climate.
What we would all agree upon is that the shift in attitudes has been manufactured and encouraged by the 1%. I believe we would all agree that the GOP has moved so far to the Right that they have become inaccessible to a majority of Americans. The tea party seeks to make solidify the GOP's shift to the far right. If they succeed we on the left- center can have a clear path to domination laid out before us.
The GOP has jumped too far ahead of the curve.
If we stay united, the GOP will be on it's heels for years to come.

YES, it most definitely has. The Christian Science Monitor claimed that Obama's SS proposal was a "move to the center" on what planet is proposing cuts to SS a "move to the center," when the majority of Americans overwhelmingly oppose those cuts? Actually, the MSM is making it very clear: the people don't matter at all.

As Protestants decline, those with no religion gain

by Cathy Lynn Grossman, USA TODAY

Published: 10/09/2012 03:55pm

For decades, if not centuries, America's top religious brand has been "Protestant." No more.

In the 1960s, two in three Americans called themselves Protestant. Now As Protestants decline, those with no religion gain
-- has slid below the statistical waters, down to 48%, from 53% in 2007

Where did they go? Nowhere, actually. They didn't switch to a new religious brand, they just let go of any faith affiliation or label.

The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life released an analytic study today titled, Nones on the Rise, now that one in five Americans (19.6%) claim no religious identity.

This group, called "Nones," is now the nation's second-largest category only to Catholics, and outnumbers the top Protestant denomination, the Southern Baptists. The shift is a significant cultural, religious and even political change.

I find when I quietly talk to many of my friends, we have the same basic beliefs, but they have been serious influenced to believe what the media says. I am hyper liberal and many claim they are tea party - i claim they have no idea what that means.

I have to be gentle with these people, we are an older group and they just watch FOX too much. I try to get them to see we agree and that they have been given false information. I did convince one to vote for Democrats in the last election even though she is pure anti abortion rabid voter. How? By stressing that there needs to be a quality of life after these babies are born.

Here is what the MAJORITY of Americans (Democrats AND Republicans) want from OUR government!

In recent polls (2005!) by the Pew Research Group, the Opinion Research Corporation, the Wall Street Journal, and CBS News, the American majority has made clear how it feels. Look at how the majority feels about some of the issues that you'd think would be gospel to a real Democratic Party:

1. 65 percent (of ALL Americans, Democrats AND Republicans) say the government should guarantee health insurance for everyone -- even if it means raising taxes.

2. 86 percent favor raising the minimum wage (including 79 percent of selfdescribed "social conservatives&quot .

3. 60 percent favor repealing either all of Bush's tax cuts or at least those cuts that went to the rich.

4. 66 percent would reduce the deficit not by cutting domestic spending but by reducing Pentagon spending or raising taxes.

5. 77 percent believe the country should do "whatever it takes" to protect the environment.

6. 87 percent think big oil corporations are gouging consumers, and 80 percent (including 76 percent of Republicans) would support a windfall profits tax on the oil giants if the revenues went for more research on alternative fuels.

7. 69 percent agree that corporate offshoring (Free Trade) of jobs is bad for the U.S. economy (78 percent of "disaffected" voters think this), and only 22% believe offshoring is good because "it keeps costs down."

8. 92% of ALL Americans support TRANSPARENT, VERIFIABLE elections!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=203x446445

9. Over 65% OPPOSED A Health Insurance MANDATE without a Public Option.

10. 85 - 92% OPPOSE ANY Cuts to Social Security

I suppose I should have said, party leadership and the media have veered to the right.

Certainly now, the recognition that the 99% are not represented, is something most people can relate to. The recognition
and awareness of corporation's roles in diminishing our lives continues to grow daily.

the 'left' which, like you I believe is in the majority, have been too complacent. I guess we needed to see what is going on now, the attacks on the social safety nets, the continuing Bush policies etc to realize that it's way past time for the majority to get up and start exercising the power we have. And I believe that is finally beginning to happen.

Lefties, contrary to the false image portrayed by the Right, are tough. Once we are committed to something there is no stopping us.

While I am thoroughly disgusted with the current state of affairs, I am feeling very excited for the first time, feeling freer to work for the PEOPLE rather than any specific politician, especially one I am not all that thrilled with out of fear of Republicans, and making sure all my support goes to the most liberal, progressive candidates we can find.

by him. His audience consistes of a small segment of the population who have no ability to think, for themselves or anyone else.

I am concerned about the sneakier, smarter Wall St inventions, such as the Third Way posing as Democrats and attempting to fool Democrats by using a few issues to lure them in, such as abortion eg, which they actually have little interest in, as cover.

They have had a head start, we didn't notice or know anything much about them during the Bush years, other than feeling a bit puzzled about some of the positions they took, on important Democratic issues but overlooked it as we had more to worry about, we THOUGHT, at the time.

The good news is we have had the time to learn a LOT more about them which is the beginning of removing them from our Party.

They've done some damage, they got rid of Glass Steagal which led to the devastating economic crash affecting millions of people. They've attacked the Public School system, made some minor inroads into pushing the long held dream of Wall St to begin the process of destroying our social safety nets. But maybe we are not too late to end their charade and to elect a truly Progressive Congress to begin the process of undoing any harm they've done.

Limbaugh is not even relevant, he's a clown and every one knows it, the others are the real threat to our party and country.

People need to see the alternative. They need to see that there are people looking out for them. Originally Social Security and the Civil Rights Act for instance were very controversial. And both secured the Democratic Party as a force for the mid 20th century.
