EDIT, LATE:
SORRY for those DUers who didn't know the White House Correspondents' Dinners was held earlier tonight, and that there would likely be several threads on the subject.

(31,464 posts)I hate posts like this one with a purple and undying passion.
This is not Twitter, folks, if you can't be arsed to write out what is going on and supply a link, if possible, then post on Twitter, instead.

(111,359 posts)Funny stuff. I wonder if he was also taking a poke at all the old movies in the 30s that used Europeans to play Asians and INDNs.
I know my mother used to laugh at all the blue eyed INDNs in old cowboy movies.

you guys project a lot. just because you're bothered by jealousy and invidious comparison doesn't mean others are.

(22,457 posts)madevery important and groundbreaking movies. By every possible criteria the industry has rewarded him and respects him.
But there is always some DUer who loves to slam successful people because it makes them feel better.
So for some reason you have decided you are smarter than everyone else in Hollywood and smarter than ticket buyers and claimed Spielberg is a failure! LOL, you crack me up.
HiPointDem
(20,729 posts)claimed i don't like his movies, i think they're boring, predictable, idea-less.
there's a psychological profile to be read here, but it ain't mine.

i hated 'titanic' too. it was also 'popular'.
so what?

(34,648 posts)Hated Lincoln too.
He is kinda boring as a filmmaker.
I'm sorry but I have to agree with your original assessment of his films.

(962 posts)with the person having a opinion about movies. This truly is subjective and a matter of personal taste.

(2,431 posts)You are obviously a bitter, failed artist.
On DU, everyone is a bitter, failed artist until they get some MSM face-time... then discussions about how cool they are start to pop up here.
Every single shot in Lincoln was a variation on the dolly-zoom in Jaws, telling me what to think and how to feel. I was feeling so manipulated 90 minutes in that I quit.
...and no, I do not make films.

(6,154 posts)I think he has talent and ability but there's usually something about his films that prevent me from loving them. Often it's sentimentality, a known weakness of his. At other times I find his stuff formulaic. He also has a weakness for sentimental nationalism that I don't like. Too many of his films are stylistically and superficially bright and flashy but lack some key sense of artistic feeling.
But then that's just my 2 cents as an amateur movie buff. Feel free to hate me for my views.

(962 posts)response. I wonder if someone else posted the same opinion if they would have got the same reaction. Can't we all just get along?
I enjoyed a many of Spielberg's movies, but I'm not going to criticize you for your personal opinion on his movies. I am curious what kind of movies you like though.
HiPointDem
(20,729 posts)wizard of oz and GWTW. As a young adult i liked 'three women' & "Z".
I don't see many films that I find wow me anymore. The last film I liked was something that I caught by accident on TV, I don't even remember the name of it.
i don't care if anyone criticizes my taste in movies. but the criticism of my taste here is motivated by personal animosity.

are we also no longer allowed to have opinions about restaurants unless we run one?
McDonald's is popular, but it's hardly gourmet cuisine.
Similarly, Spielberg is popular, but his ideas are dull and bland.

This is shameful, folks. HiPointDem has an opinion about Spielberg. So, we can't get over it?
I dunno. There are Spielberg films I like and ones I don't like so much. That doesn't make me the Enemy of the People. Jeez, let's lighten up and be more human towards HiPointDem, folks!

(1,054 posts)How about a movie entitled Saving Steven Spielberg? The Nazis are criticizing him SOO heavily, cuz they're JEALOUS... and it's SOOO unfair, so a special team of brave DUers are sent out to find him on his latest shoot in Borneo or wherever, and bring him back to safety... haha!

I think you'd have gotten more mileage out of simply saying "CHEEEEESE-BOMBS!"
...or "Yes, Herr Shpielberg, your little Drew Barrymore will make an EXCELLENT CLEANING WOMAN!"
