Fed Extended Unemployment Benefits Slashed 17.69% in CA
Got this nice little note with my UI forms this week, informing me that if and when I qualify for the next tier of Federal UI benefits, they will be cut by 17.69%. That's $80 a week, lowering my benefit from $450 a week to $370 a week. That's a loss of $320 a month, not that I need that money when I'm trying to feed a family of four, pay rent at the going rate in CA, and spending what little extra I have driving my ass to job interviews where my 58 years of age don't walk through the door as a point of recommendation.
Whatever happened to the 10% across-the-board cut? Why are we who are unemployed taking nearly DOUBLE the cut of everyone else?
Well, that does it. This has really inspired me to get off my ass and find a job! From now on, I'll send out 200 resumes a week that get no response from employers rather than 100. I will find a way to falsify my CV to knock 20 years off my age and make up places I've worked within the past 6 months so I get out of the dreaded "long-term unemployed ergo unemployable" category of ignored and forgotten workers. As long as I can avoid any face-to-face interviews where my age becomes apparent I should be able to land a gang buster job.
Maybe I'll put a kid up for adoption to trim the "fat" out of our family budget. Yeah, that's the ticket!
But in the meanwhile, I've got to find the resources to send that campaign contribution to the Congress critter who voted for the sequester, and who has my best interest at heart as they lift the budget cuts on the air traffic system so they can fly hither and yon on the tax payer dime and not be inconvenienced by the kind of things that effect "the little people."
