Rove Rides Cotton Pony over Eastwood's Halftime Ad

From Karl Rove's hissy fit...by Joan Walsh.

http://www.salon.com/2012/02/06/karl_roves_hissy_fit_offended_by_chrysler_ad/

“I was, frankly, offended by it,” Rove said on Fox News Monday. “I’m a huge fan of Clint Eastwood, I thought it was an extremely well-done ad, but it is a sign of what happens when you have Chicago-style politics, and the president of the United States and his political minions are, in essence, using our tax dollars to buy corporate advertising.”

Rove wasn’t the only Republican who tried to cast the Chrysler ad as essentially payback to the president for supporting the bailout that kept the domestic auto industry alive. Michelle Malkin tweeted her horror Sunday night: “Agh. WTH? Did I just see Clint Eastwood fronting an auto bailout ad???”

Now, Clint Eastwood is no Democrat – he voted for John McCain in 2008, has been a Republican for most of his life, and now describes himself as having “libertarian” leanings. It’s hard to imagine he’d lend his name to an openly and intentionally pro-Obama ad. Chrysler has denied any political motive behind the Eastwood ad.

The flap over the ad confirms the GOP’s serious branding problem: The problem for Rove and the rest of the GOP is that their party’s narrative has become relentlessly negative, pessimistic and uninspiring. They’ve left the language of optimism and resilience, higher ground and common ground, to the Democrats, and lately President Obama has grabbed every opportunity to employ that language.

Can someone tell me exactly where Chicago or Obama were mentioned in the ad???

And that's coming from someone who lost his job when GM started going belly up in 2009; still looking for a decent paying job (GM may have recovered; me, not so much).

Rove being offended by it just makes it that much better. As for Malkin, she's still around?

There are plenty of ways to attack Karl Rove and his latest snit without comparing him to menstruating women.

I know I have to say that POS being to being compared to anything having to do with women is insulting.

period doesn't mean they become an asshole. Besides Rove is always that way.

Personally I think the only reason the neo-cons are pissed about the auto bail out is because it saved a lot of American jobs. Which kept the unemployment numbers from going up. Which means that they can't blame Obama for more lost jobs.

have been determined to take the OPPOSITE position for EVERY SINGLE position that Prez. Obama professes... Even if they have to throw people like Eastwood, Raygun, and even themselves, under the bus.

And it has been happening over and over and over again.

a jury of peers......when there are few peers with regard to feminist understanding, I guess we can expect sexism to get a pass.

Gee, everyone understands why all white juries deciding cases against black defendants is dangerous for the black defendant.

Then there are the serial lady-baiters around here too, who never get tombstoned. Unlike what would happen if the equivalent kind of attacks were made against ANY OTHER group.

"Riding the Cotton Pony" or "On the Rag" are misogynistic put-downs of women. It is your title, not the title of the article you linked to. Now, you may not be aware of the offensive nature of that phrase, but you are aware of it now. I encourage you to edit your title, either to use the original title or to something that is not offensive to other DUers.

I see that your OP was alerted on and left standing by a jury. That, however, does not remove the offensive nature of the title.

About as much as tampons and menstruation have to do with your OP.
