Sure, their words are aimed in his direction, but the real target are the union jobs that stand behind him. It's a Republican mantra that those living wage jobs are strangling the auto industry to death, and anyone who says otherwise are to be slapped down by the GOP at large.

Eastwood says the spirit of his commercial, that the auto industry is back stronger than ever, can be used by either party, but the Republicans are unable to do so. If the industry lost the UAW during bankruptcy, every Republican in the country would be touting their reborn success.

Chrysler paid a company to come up with a "feel good" add. It was to pivot on the "imported from Detroit" concept. Advetising is specifically designed to appeal to the broadest possible audience possible. No one in any large commercial industry like cars is going to make a "political" ad. But the auto industry needs consumers to "feel good" about buying a car, and about buying a Chrysler car.

So they made a "feel good" commercial. Yes, you have to be careful in economic times like these to not piss off consumers by ignoring their plight. So instead, they attempt to pivot on their plight. Yes, times are tough FOR YOU. They've been tough for US (Chrysler) too. But LIKE you, we have persevered and we haven't failed. We're tough, we make tough cars, by tough Americans that are going through tough times just like you. And guess what, we're being successful. America is being successful. You're being successful. So buy a friggin' car why don't ya?

Problem is, the GOP doesn't want people to "feel good". Not about jobs, not about buying cars, and surely not about the American auto industry. So the ad bugs them for the precise reason that it was made, and is effective. It justifies American's feeling good about themselves, and their country.
