With Perry away, acting governors cost Texas $32K
WILL WEISSERT, Associated Press

.... When Perry is out-of-state for a full day, $410.96 in acting governor pay goes to fellow Republican and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, or, if Dewhurst is also absent, to state Sen. Mike Jackson, a Republican from La Porte. That worked out to $32,466 while Perry was crisscrossing the country in pursuit of the GOP presidential nomination between Aug. 13 and Jan. 19, the governor's office reported Monday in response to a request filed under the Public Information Act.

Dewhurst, who has a personal net worth of at least $200 million, is now running for the Republican nomination to fill the seat of retiring U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison. He and all state senators make just $7,200 annually in base salary to serve in a Texas Legislature that convenes every other year.

Perry's absence meant quite the windfall, with Dewhurst collecting $29,589 and Jackson receiving $2,876. As governor, Perry is paid $150,000 per year, no matter how many days he spends outside the state. ....

The Texas Department of Public Safety reported last month that it spent almost $800,000 for security teams to protect the governor and his wife, Anita, from September through part of November, including travel expenses for 48 out-of-state-trips.

Progress Texas has joined the chairwoman of the Texas House Democratic Caucus, Rep. Jessica Farrar of Houston, in urging Perry to pay back all security costs the state incurred while he was running for president.

Perry Campaign Spent $16 Million in 138 Days
by Ryan Murphy and Jay Root

.... Over those 138 days, the Perry campaign spent an average of $116,000 a day, with payments ranging as low as 25 cents for a city of Austin parking meter on Sept. 5 to an $856,777.85 payment for TV ad placements on Nov. 10. Uncle Sam got a piece, too: The Internal Revenue Service was paid $407,000 in payroll taxes through the end of the year.

The largest single chunk of dough went to Paint Creek Media. According to Perry campaign officials, that’s the company set up by Virginia-based media placement consultants Mike Dubke and Patti Heck, who run Crossroads Media in Alexandria, Va., to handle Perry’s TV ad buys. ....

The computer company 2012 Election Digital LLC, run by the same people who had provided web services to GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich (under another company name), was paid nearly $600,000 to build and maintain Perry’s website.

Closer to home, Austin-based political consultant Ted Delisi, under the firm name Flintrock Consulting, billed the Perry campaign $539,000 for compiling and mailing brochures and ads.

Longtime media strategist David Weeks, who has been Perry’s TV ad man since his first statewide race in 1990, was paid $177,000 for ad production. Austin-based pollster Mike Baselice got $266,000 for survey research, records show. ....

If you get hired for a job, do your fucking job. To have to give "acting governor" pay to ANYONE is a stupid waste of taxpayer money. These guys are ALL rich mofos who don't need another dime. To have to compensate them for filling in for another rich mofo who doesn't need a dime is...is...aw hell...it's politics in America.

Time to rise up.
