(3,073 posts)Biggest asshole maybe or tied for first with Walker or a few others but any criminal who rather then going to jail where he belongs gets himself elected governor is not dumb. Florida's voters who elected this monster are another story altogether however.

(50,559 posts)With Jan Brewer, Paul LePage, Chris Christie, Rick Scott and Scott Walker all vying for the title, Perry looks like a Rhodes Scholar instead of the Waxahachie Normal School grad that he is.

(50,559 posts)The Texas constitution is written to give most of the executive power to the lite guv...apparently strong governors have caused problems in the past. A Texas governor has two main functions in life: signing bills they get no real input into, and signing writs of execution. You know all that shit about Bush spending his time as Texas guv playing video games? Since the Texas governor has approximately the same amount of authority as the Queen of England, why not let him play games on company time?
freshwest
(53,661 posts)The Texas Constitution is unique and really doesn't like to cede any power to governors and unless they've changed it greatly since I grew up (haha, how many amendments are there now?), they don't meet that often compared to where I am living now.
The bad thing about my pretty blue state is that it seems the legislature is always in session and mischief must be fought off almost monthly. It's exhausting. Elections are year around, from whether the local school will hire a nurse or librarian, or we build new parks or schools, it's always something.
We have many new voters who come in and really do want to support our way of doing things but have fallen for the baggers' lying pamphlets, so we are at a tipping point here.
Rick has just 'been there' like Bush was. I hated most of what the Shrub DID do, that lousy little bastard. I suspect Rick has been more open playing his role as the robosigner which Grover wanted Romney to be.
But there's still hope, and the Castro brothers may turn Tejas around yet but some of the change is just permanent and no going back. That's going on in many states, not just there. Get rid of public unions, close a school, shut down this or that agency and it's not going to return in our lifetime. The GOP has gone for broke, slashing and burning bridges that took generations to build.
Some Texans have been fooled, but I think that there will be new voices to overcome it. See you later.

(62,444 posts)Rick Scott made a fortune in crime and is now selling off Florida to his buddies. I can't call that "dumb" per se.
Rick Perry manages to get one right once in a long while, and he seems to be trying.
But Brewer? Lights on, nobody home.

(32,086 posts)I think Haley may have her beat in the corruption department, however.
jberryhill
(62,444 posts)I mean, yeah, there are a lot of dumb corruption schemes. But being corrupt takes a sense of vision, planning, and goal oriented behavior to be even marginally good at it.
Brewer is too dumb to be corrupt.

He's also figured out that he can look good by saying something and then blaming the legislature for it not happening.
true case of two evils working together.

(9,983 posts)Brownback has reached dimensions of douchebaggery that the rest of these chumps only aspire to. And i gotta tell ya - being dumber than Paul LePage, Rick Perry, or Jan Brewer is quite a row to hoe.
rhiannon55
(2,671 posts)I'm always surprised that he's usually left off the top ten horrible governors lists. It seems that, outside of Kansas, he flies under the 'bad governors' radar. He thinks he's going to be president someday, so we need to let the rest of the country know about him.
RC
(25,592 posts)Being next door to Brownback, one hears a bit more than elsewhere. Even so, we hear more about Jay Nixon than Brownback. We hear what is going on over there in Kansas, but the governor's hands in the political corruption is strangely missing, even when it can be traced back to the Governor's office.

But for pure lack of candlepower, I'd have to put LePage before even Perry, and for a Texan, that's going far.
I can't think of anyone who's both as dumb and as plain old mean-spirited as LePage. He and Jan Brewer would make a lovely couple.
