(16,974 posts)But parents must take responsibility if they do. Secure them properly and proper training for all. This seems to be lacking in some cases.

(43,049 posts)when guns are used properly and as intended, death or injury is rare.
When cigarettes are used properly and as intended, disease and death are the normal outcome. Fires and cleanup of smoke residue are other unfortunate outcomes.
Children, btw, are often and often enough for good reason, denied rights adults have, and allowing them guns but not drivers licenses or a beer does seem a bit odd.

Sigh...
It could be argued that the 21st Amendment granted Americans the Right to Drink Alchohol (by way of repealing the 18th Amendment), so that would actually be a good equivalent. Not the driver's licenses one though.
