Election time is coming up, and we've got a lot of local offices up for grabs and not a lot of people stepping up. I've been asked to throw my hat in.
I have yet to be fully vetted and may not make the cut, but it's terrifying and exciting. It will take a lot of my time and I'll be expected to throw cash into the electoral pot. I'll also be trashed in the local paper's letters column and my life will be an open book. Some who ran last time absolutely refuse to do it again in this Republican town.
Some issues, like dogs on the beach, are a no winner from the start with townspeople polarized, but can't be ignored. Replacing your waterfront cesspool with a $30,000 non-polluting model? Imagine the debate on that! And it gets worse.
But, we shall see...

(17,181 posts)Of course, depending on your district and the office you're running for, you may or may not want to use your DU name on the ballot.
I have other handy, helpful hints on running for office. But most of them have to do with not exposing certain body parts during campaign events or on campaign literature, so they probably needn't be outlined.
Good luck.
