1. at :37 there is a break and some parts are switched out

the pieces he set up no longer match up square. there are fractional pieces in the crack that add up to be 3

2. The most obvious tell is at 2:50 when he is putting it back together.

Stop the action here. Here you can see the extra square just behind his right forefinger - in front of his thumb as he slides it towards the edge of the table.


Start stop and you can see where he drops the square off the table. Here he moves it to the edge to drop the square off.


And them moves the remaining piece into place minus the extra square.


Violla. It's magic.



It's a lot harder to see where he is pulling the extra pieces from in the first half of the trick - but be assured - they are coming from somewhere.

That's the first thing to look for. Also, I think that first cut at about 0:25 is important.

exactly straight and consistent, so they fit together differently with different patterns. When all pieces are used (start and finish) they're arranged to fit tightly, but when they're rearranged there are enough small gaps between pieces to add up to a missing square...
