From the freeper thread "Appeals court: Same-sex marriage ban unconstitutional (Calif)"
The absurdity of this offers one more example of a crushing reality. Much of America, today, is in the grips of a pervasive Collectivist/Egalitarian fantasy, which makes Lewis Carroll's description of "Wonderland," seem only stark realism by comparison.
No one who actually understands the concept of marriage-or for that matter the unsanctified procreational mating procedures of other warm blooded creatures--can possibly see this as anything but absurd. Human marriage customs & procedures reflect an understanding of the multi-generational function & purpose of a species. Marriage is our way to sanctify the process. Not surprisingly, therefore, unconsummated marriages have been subject to annulment, even in societies that explicitly outlaw every form of divorce.
Marriage has never been simply a way to sanctify friendship. Nor has anyone ever suggested that friends of the same sex marry, to prove their ties of a lifetime. And yet what else do people of the same sex have to even suggest that they should marry, today? Only an act that most other people find offensive--one or another of muscular acts intended to simulate feelings that may mimic sexual feelings ("sexual" relating not to the feelings, but to the division of the species into sexes, for procreation and continuity).
Again, is this whole agitation--and this Court decision--not totally in the theater of the absurd?!!

(14,040 posts)It was quite plain that Prop 8 went against the California Constitution. You cannot create a law that is nullified by the constitution, they California voters would have to push for a Constitutional Amendment--which they didn't do (not that I want to give them ideas).
What will these Constitutionalists say if the USSC upholds this decision?

(30,885 posts)There's a lot of talk on DU about "projection," and I tend to agree with it. It may be "Psychology 101," but I think the people most willing to speak out against people in love are the ones most in need of love themselves. It's envy, it's anger that someone else might have possibly found love while they could not.

(14,337 posts)is a far better, and lasting, marriage. "Unconsummated marriages subject to annulment (CATHOLIC ONLY)". How about marriage where one spouse doesn't want kids and doesn't tell the other? BOTH? Oh, yeah, that is subject to annulment too, but if NOBODY COMPLAINS, how will they, again, Catholic Church KNOW?
Sodomy? Look up a dictionary for that one. Oral or anal sex is sodomy. Straight couples only have missionary, no oral or anal, sex to make babies? In what Century?
That person, if real, is crazy.

Secondly, homosexuality is hardly unknown in the animal kingdom. Homosexual acts have been observed in about 1500 species at last count and in about a third of those, it's both widespread and common.
Third, did you notice the complete refusal to acknowledge that same-sex partners could love one another? He describes it as friendship and a sexual act but cannot bring himself to accept the possibility of love. That, in and of itself, makes me smell closet-case.
