(25,183 posts)made the remainder of his second term all about spending political capital to fight for his own survival over the interests of the people who elected him. Was I asking too damn much to expect him to find someone intelligent to screw around with (who didn't blab her fool mouth off to a Linda Tripp) or if he could not discern who had as much to lose as he did, at least keep his zipper zipped for the eight years he was awarded?
His libido screwed all of us out of a more progressive second term. I'm glad Barack Obama is way smarter than that.

(63,912 posts)Bill Clinton didn't run out on his job. His judgment wasn't the best, but he certainly didn't want to humiliate his wife and daughter. This prick Sanford emotionally devastated his wife and sons and then had the effing nerve to have one of his kids at his press conference with little miss argentina. The kid looked like he wanted to cry!
The Sanford voters of that district are just as bad as Sanford is, IMO. In a way, I hope he screws them over so that payback will come to them, too, altho I do not wish any harm to those good people who voted for Colbert Busch. At least they, and she, can hold up their heads without shame...

On top of being a minority and having a giant Republican machine to battle, we have to deal with this crap as well.
ProudToBeBlueInRhody

Go snark or just punch him in the fucking face. I'm not interested.
Swamp Lover
(431 posts)It was you who helped elect Mark Sanford.
Those idiots with anti-Obama bumperstickers (they only exist in South Carolina) are a finite number. It was those on the fence that we had to lure, and they had a choice between someone who had represented them before, who came to them with humility, and a an unknown candidate who they did not know. If they took into consideration those who supported her, and were faced with your ignorant, narrow minded hatred, their choice was easy. And we saw the results tonight.
Every time the National Party has asked us to work hard, we have. We know we have little or no chance in this state, and climate but we bust our asses. Your stupidity makes it harder and harder each time we have to find volunteers and supporters making it harder each election.

(68,644 posts)The old saying "worthless as teats on a boar!" is not true.
People in the know understand that the teats on the boar hog is the most important thing in hog production.
The number of teats on a boar hog determines the number of teats that will be on his daughters born out of his offspring.
The more teats on the boar hog the better.
Many hog raisers will not buy or use a boar hog unless he has at least 14 or more teats.
His daughter will have more teats and will raise more pigs.

That took about 3 minutes. Aaaaanything else you want me to find? How's the crack epidemic going up there?
None of which has anything to do with you, just as you had nothing to do with whatever good is going on in Rhode Island, just as your ludicrous, infantile attack on everyone in the state of South Carolina has nothing to do with reality either.
Really, what is your logic here? Do you have a giant foam hand with "State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations" scribbled on it in teeny, tiny letters that you like wave around?
What kind of person derives a sense of superiority from the fucking state they live in, or looks down on other people for theirs?
I know Rhode Islanders. Members of my family founded the state of Rhode Island.
You are no Rhode Islander.
ProudToBeBlueInRhody
(16,399 posts)Now it becomes clear....the anger....the jealousy....I understand. I'd be pissed too if my governor was Rick Scott, another example of the Southern belief that a Republican who belongs in jail is still better than any Democratic woman.

Damn right I'm a Rhode Islander. All my life except for being born in a Massachusetts hospital (another great state). Proud of it too.
DirkGently
(12,151 posts)Really? This is the argument you want to have? From Rhode Island?
Look, genius. Everyone's state sucks somehow. Yours happens to be poor and underemployed and apparently full drunk drivers. Oh, and 31st nationally in education. Florida, hideous governor and all, is 6th. Ouch. That would feel so good, if your fucked up state shaming argument made any kind of goddamned sense.
What you don't seem capable of grasping is that insulting everyone who lives wherever because you're having a tantrum about election results reveals far more relevant information about your quality as a person than how many Dems you happen to have in office. No intelligent person takes a sense of superiority over their geography.
You didn't do whatever Rhode Island is doing right. Your state is not inherently better, or smarter, than any other state. YOU are not smarter or better than anyone because you live there. Your state is full of shame and stupidity and failure like all the rest. It's actually worst in a lot of categories, because it is tiny and it hasn't recovered from the implosion of the textile industry or from being the cradle of the crack epidemic.
And yet Rhode Island is full of perfectly wonderful, rational people, of whom you are apparently not one.
Yours is a child's argument. You couldn't win it even if it made any sense, but it doesn't.

My theory on this is that Ms. Colbert-Busch seemed more close to the Republican position on several issues, so perhaps there was not really a significant difference between the two candidates which made voting for an unethical, fornicating, dishonest candidate go down a little easier. Stupid.
Ok.
In that case I urge you to steer clear of SC. Please.
Seriously, please.

Disclaimer: I'm not from SC but I've been there several times and live in the same section of the country.
1- Sanford's a Republican. Automatic advantage in most of the South, except perhaps Miami-Dade County and District of Columbia (next to northern VA).
2- He's a known quantity, flawed as he is. People tend to go for what they know, over what is less known. He already represented that district also.
3- He did the "please forgive me" schtick pretty well. We Americans are real suckers for this, in general.
4- He did the whole "God fearing Christian" schtick thing real well also, and SC loves that, in general.
Yes, SC has its faults but it's not going anywhere. SC DU'ers and Democrats need ENCOURAGEMENT and not berating for "stupidity". As other posters have pointed out, 45% of the local electorate did vote for Colbert-Busch. The broad brush does not work very well.

(6,057 posts)DU'ers and progressives living in the south need to put on their "big boy pants" and recognize that what the OP said about SC (and the south in general) is true.

Question for SC DUers, is Ms. Colbert Busch a progressive?
