1) It's a pretty conservative state
2) It's a very Republican district
3) Sanford's a sleaze, but Republican voters are hypocrites anyway.

(25,183 posts)I figured that early polling reflected a "safe" disapproval of his behavior, but the ballot box reflected the idea that the voters of this district did not want progressive values to prevail. Sanford made this election about just that in the final weeks of the race.

(53,661 posts)I'm sure the Koch brothers are high fiving each other over this. Likely already gave this clown a list of what resources to hand over to them when he's sworn in. That is what they did in AR, MI, WI, IN and anywhere they bought a robosigner.

White collar workers from the 80's.
Enthusiastically take side with the company and screw the blue collar workers "below" you.
Twenty years later?
White collar workers are replaced by graduates from the University of Bangladesh. The white collar workers thought they were exclusive. They thought they were protected. They thought the company was on their side. Boy were they fooled.
The pseudo republicans (only because FOX brainwashed them) will learn, but it won't take twenty years for them to discover that their elected politicians were never on their side. That these party "faithful" were not exclusive. That they were not protected.
Way to go South Carolina. You just voted yourself back wards another two decades. How many categories will you finish last in? Tough competition with Mississippi and Alabama, but you may have won the race to the bottom.

(5,364 posts)The white collar company loyalty of the 80's you mention was/is nothing more than classism hidden behind enough voodoo economic theory to maintain plausible deniability.

(9,462 posts)divorce trial she and her husband were both sentenced to 24 hours in jail for contempt of court for failing to reach an agreement on visitation, support and insurance for their kids. In the court records the judge admonished them for "not having the best interest of their kids" in mind. All the online news and political websites had it all day. It was just that she went to jail with her mug shot and that "she didn't have the best interest of her kids" in mind. The true story never got out, it happened in 1988, and she has long claimed she was in an abusive relationship. The judge was the son of controversial former Congressman, L Mendel Rivers who was on the side of Callie during the My Lai massacre hearings, and the judge himself was not appointed. The commission found that: The Commission found Judge Rivers to be intelligent and knowledgeable.
His performance on the Commissions practice and procedure questions met expectations; however, his answers did indicate some concerns in the areas of substantive law and evidence.
The Commissions investigation showed Judge Rivers could improve the expediency with which he disposes of his caseload.
The Commission also found Judge Rivers could improve in the areas of judicial temperament with respect to witnesses and litigants.
People were all over the websites today, blowing the story up and making comments. I don't know why more dems weren't there. I spent a good part of the day trying to reply and tamp down any false accusations.
