Senators Sanders and Warren call out Republicans for blocking President Obama's nominations

Republican Obstructionists

Republicans on the Senate environment committee on Thursday blocked a vote on the nomination of Gina McCarthy to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. “The American people want this government to function. This type of obstructionism is enormously anti-democratic,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders. The latest Republican stalling tactic came one day after Republicans on Wednesday delayed for the second time in two weeks a vote on the nomination of Tom Perez to head the Department of Labor.

Sanders asked environment committee Chairman Barbara Boxer to set another vote as soon as possible on the EPA nominee. He also urged Senate Democrats to change filibuster rules that the Republican minority in the Senate have exploited to block confirmation votes.

The Labor Department nominee already had been bottled up in the Senate labor committee for weeks. Sanders, a member of that committee as well, called Perez “a strong and competent candidate.”

Statement by Senator Warren on Senate Republicans' Steps to Block Obama Administration Nominations

WASHINGTON, DC - United States Senator Elizabeth Warren released the following statement on Senate Republicans' actions this week to block the votes of Obama Administration nominations of Gina McCarthy and Tom Perez:

"Gina McCarthy is an extraordinary public servant who is highly qualified to serve as the next Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. She was unanimously confirmed to her previous position at the EPA, and the Republicans know they have no grounds for opposing her, so they are using procedural gimmicks to prevent her nomination.

"Together with this week's surprise procedural move to prevent consideration of Tom Perez's nomination to lead the Department of Labor, the Republicans have made clear that they will use any trick available to block qualified nominees. This is wrong. The President's nominees deserve swift consideration and confirmation by the Senate."

Harry could have fixed this, but decided that he would rather point fingers at republicans for two more years.

with senator Warren leading the way.

Obama's pick for EPA administrator is vitally important when you have climate change deniers in charge of the House.

And this is another example of the GOP's war on women. Their misogyny is in full bloom right now.

When Warren came into the Senate she and some others tried to get that damn filibuster changed. I remember signing a petition for her and writing letters. I was led to believe that Reid could have tried to change the rules but didn't.

I'm not being snarky. I'm on a learning curve when it comes to Senate rules.

Fight, obstruct, oppose, compete, obstruct, refuse to compromise, criticize, make war, battle, resist, you name it. If it is a way of fighting, opposing, or obstructing, they are all in. I am not sure they know how to do anything else. The stupid jerks. If only voters would give them what they deserve.

...right, they should be. Still, when they do, it should be acknowledged. What would be the point of them doing this is no one paid attention?

...Republicans do make a lot of noise, 99.9 percent of it drivel. Still, there are some other vocal Democrats, Congressmen Ellison and Grayson come to mind.
