Well I have just about had it ... I have unfriended 2 more!

I joined facebook early last year... mostly to keep in contact with my large family. I thought I would just keep my numbers to a few family and friends and slowly have now about 70 people that I have connected with. Well that is a lot more than I wanted or expected but old friends from decades back connected and for the most part have it has been great reestablishing old friendships with some of them. However, it didn't take long to realize how many idiots there are out there. I don't say that lightly.... I take pride in being an informed citizen and am passionate to understand the truth and I now know most people don't want to know the truth.

So I have had 4 people now that I just couldn't take their hateful and shallow views on Obama. Two cousins and two former classmates. Never once did they post anything that was at least factual. The last one by a cousin was a picture of Obama superimposed on a map of Africa and the country Kenya... with the corner turned up with a picture of Huckabee.

It had a link to an article about Benghazi and how this was worse than Watergate and blah blah blah ..blah blah...

I responded with how the picture was wrong on soooo many levels.... That what did Kenya have to do with this issue? This first shows how biased the article was.... I explained about all the attacks under GWB and how many people were killed... and how Fox didn't exploit ONE of those attacks like they are doing with Benghazi. I went on to tell her posts such as this is what was wrong with our country and society.... causing more division and hate which was spearheaded by Fox news.

Today an old friend .... posted another hateful picture and post of Obama. I as many who voted for Obama, am not thrilled with everything he has done or not done but to see how hateful and vengeful he has been treated by the republicans and their followers is very sad, especially after the fiasco of the last administration. I really do have my doubts that we can recover from the viciousness of the extreme right wing of our society. I really do. That is my rant tonight.... thanks for letting me vent.

I have seen some very sick stuff on there, but stick with it because of family and activist connections.

I reconnected with old high school friends as well, only to find out most of them are right-wing fanatics. I ended up dumping several of them. I also dumped a couple relatives after they posted racist BS about Obama.

FB is like Yahoo with all the right-wing BS flung around.

Got friended by an old boyfriend, a guy I was crazy about years ago, no hard feelings. Found out quick enough he's a Tea Party Patriot and I get all the Benghazi, We Love Guns, etc. crap all day now along with the occasional cute grandkid pic. Wow, I could have been divorced years ago! I show the stuff to DH for a laugh. My favorite is all the ranting and raving about the Evils of Big Government--my ex-BF is retired Navy with generous pension and Tricare for life. Sigh.

FB does show you a persons true colors.

I have lost a lot of respect for some friends and family because of the posts they have submitted.

I am pretty careful and try to keep even my political posts to dealing with facts. Although my entire family know I am a Liberal and proud to be one.

I can't help they don't want to know the truth. I can only as tactfully as I can continue to show them where their opinions are flawed.

The big difference between most Republicans and most Democrats can be explained by two people.

Mark Stanford and John Edwards.

Both are hypocrites ... both deceived their spouses, supporters and the American public. One was re-elected and one was banished from politics.

Thanks for your input....

sounds like the guy I was crazy about back in the 80's. Back in 08 I was trolling and found a post where he was looking to hookup with like-minded people who were Glenn Beck fans. I sent him a note via Facebook and said if Beck had been around in the 80's, we - he and I would never have shared a beer. He wrote back saying "my boy Obama" was in over his head, blah, blah, blah.

Ugh - he's a total right-wing nut now.

You may be on FB to visit with old chums, family or game friends when there on your wall there it is. A silly picture,a hateful slam all aimed at Obama, Dems, those of any other religion(or not at all). It was bad during the running for election sprint but in ways it got even worse right after. Their hate seemed to be seething and almost the next day the birther blues started again. After that every day more pictures with outrageous claims, lies,Foxed Facts, scattered your wall. If you ignored it they paid no attention. Don't talk politics? They don't even notice. It was like some one, some group was pushing them--prodding them into turning into mini propaganda machines. Thankfully they do have ignore buttons and the wall is a much saner place these days!

The thing that gets me is the hypocrisy. They are foaming at the mouth because Obama "MIGHT HAVE LIED".... they don't know for sure but "IF" he did impeach him. I am not an idiot and I remember how Bush & Cheney lied... manipulated evidence...outed a high level CIA operative and threw the Scooter under the bus..... would NOT answer questions about 9-11 under oath.... asked and received several "stimulus bills" ....on and on....and on....

Obama is everything you would want in a President... came from humble beginnings... Graduated from Harvard with honors.... forgoes millions in salary to work with the troubled neighborhoods of Chicago... falls in Love ...starts a family.... and by all accounts seems to be a wonderful father and husband.

It really is an amazing story.... but if you support the right to choose.... you are evil... period. That is the only thing they look at.

The "Copy and post if you love Jesus" is another aspect I find troubling. Not that I have anything against him or what said, but the political/religious connections I really see as troubling for the Nations well being.

I joined after being asked to by an old neighbor when I was a kid, for years, and a more recent neighbor who had moved asked, and I wanted to be in touch. I was really surprised at the number of people who found me from my past. The stuff I post usually doesn't get much comment, and I ended up not even going there to see what is happening unless someone posts on my wall or something. Facebook is everyday telling me folks I know have posted something. When I do go there I go through several recent posts and sometimes 'like' or comment on a post. There is one gal from H.S. that is liberal and goes to protests and posts pictures, so that is great to see. But there is lots or R/W crap and I have had a few 'conversations' with folks. I feel like it's a "anything you say here can be held against you" space, but I still say something now and then.

I have had some great discussions with my fundi family and friends. I know they must just shudder when I catch them in a false posting.

The ones I unfriended were just to far gone to put up any argument to try to show them where they were incorrect with their facts. One was a career military MP...and Drill Sargent. He was a cousin also...but his hate for Obama was beyond reasoning and of course he being a life long military my right wing fundi family put his opinion up on a pedestal. I tried to debate him with facts but he is a lost cause. Pure hatred for anything Democratic or Liberal.

It did take me several years to actually join up.... but since my daughters are now quite a distance from me...one in Europe and one in Lower Michigan.... it is nice to connect with their lives using FB. Although I have gotten frustrated with some.... I also keep other right wing posters honest with facts when they post things not true.

I do love the D.U. though as a great source for information how to respond to the right wing propaganda machine.

Thanks

I imagine with family that far away it is much easier to keep in touch through social media/interaction sites. What I found mostly was trivial info about daily life was the main thing I saw. The people that are close to me that I care enough about to be interested in their activities have my phone number and email addy and can call or write any time they please, the problem I ran into was not personal friends but mostly friends of friends that they were too lazy or concerned with hurt feelings to unfriend therefor postings on their walls ended up on mine and I just plain got tired of all of it. Add in the infringement on privacy that goes with face book was more than I cared to deal with.. Have not missed one iota of it..

I've been pretty shocked and disillusioned to find out how pervasively The Propaganda has been "catapulted" out there, especially on facebook. It's a huge disappointment to see how many people I thought were smart enough to think for themselves have fallen for it. Then again, I have newfound respect for people I didn't realize were deep and compassionate thinkers.

It's a mixed bag, and I've gotten somewhat used to it. I wish there were as many nice surprises as there are shameful discoveries on Social Media with old friends.

I had the greatest respect for one of my sisters boyfriends. A great guy willing to give the shirt off his back to help others. Is a wonderful person for my sister .. then he starts posting right wing hate. Despises all things Liberal and they are the cause of all that is wrong in America.

When the movement for equality had the idea of using the "equal" sign as a show of support for same sex marriage he posted one with a circle with a cross out over the equal sign.

I confronted him on this and it came down to morality for him..... and I let him have it with both barrels. He backed down some and made a lame attempt at "good for me" for taking a stand for what I believe in.

I have come close a couple of times to unfriending him but some people I do like to keep them on the straight and narrow and correct the false posts they put up with facts.

Keeps them guessing whether they should post something in the future b4 they research it a bit.

Thanks for your input and support.
