Mary Jo is doing her job,
Letting bankers gleefully hobnob
As she hands over the keys
And they do what they please
with the greatest of ease
while we can but grumble and sob.

It's just business.

Franklin was trying to piss them off and send a message of support to American resistance. No idea if it worked.

(62,325 posts)lacking in intellect, an uneducated Colonial fool. But as we all know, the Crown had no sense of humor nor much intellect, otherwise we would still be singing 'Hail to the Queen' and Franklin would have been hung for treason.
Just goes to show, criticism matters only depending on the critic.

(62,325 posts)according to one of the world's most famous literary masters of sarcasm.
You should introduce your brother to some of these people:
Oscar Wilde
Dorothy Parker
Shakespeare
G.K. Chesterton
Ambrose Bierce
Flannery O'Connor
Wit beyond measure is a man's greatest treasure. J. K. Rowling
Or maybe you were just being sarcastic with the 'brilliant scholar' part!
Buzz Clik
(38,437 posts)Sure. I'll tell him that somebody at DU thinks he should check out Shakespeare. Maybe you could suggest a title that he might read.
I'm a fucking genius.

(2,347 posts)...with the collaboration of Elliott Spitzer, at the time she was nominated. Anyone who knows her history knows she was the worst sort of nomination for this post. Awe-inspiringly awful. Geithner level awful.

(31,849 posts)Spitzer, having known White professionally for a couple of decades, would know White and her capabilities far more than any of those "anyones"?

(31,849 posts)ideological purity and being above personal reproach keeps progressives (as exhibited on DU) politically irrelevent ... other then for a back and forth on anonymous bulletin boards.

Or, perhaps three" "Feet of clay."
Besides, his personal failings do not argue against his knowledge/estimation of someone else.

(2,347 posts)And so far, she's turning out exactly as expected by those of us who were skeptical in the extreme about her. Her prior history is one of being extremely cozy with the big banks. This decision the NYT is objecting to is in line with that.

(31,849 posts)claimed him to be an objective observer ... In fact, I said his having worked with White makes him a highly informed observer.
With that said ... I perfer to NOT judge performance on individual acts; but through accomplishments over time. It is far to early to judge her.

(62,325 posts)people's comments, under the current system they can still be seen so it's acceptable as it is not censorship, just a message that something is not acceptable. Personal attacks have never been acceptable. So this jury simply followed through on that standard.

(82,383 posts)How about Van Jones, the right wingers go ballistic at him.
Bluenorthwest
(45,319 posts)a fight, just like Shirley Sherrod. No one in the WH had their backs. Nor did the ardent supporters who hung them out to dry upon command from the right wing. Van's head was one of the first offerings made to the Teapublicans.
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)disapproval of him, he was gone. No one fought for HIM in this administration. But when people across the country demanded that Republican Chair, nominated by Obama, of the Deficit Commission, Alan 'greedy old geezers on SS' Simpson, insulted Veterans and the Elderly, be fired for his behavior, and tens of thousands signed a petition asking this president to force HIM to resign, guess what? He's still there!
Can you name some Progressives appointed by Obama lately? Van Jones was one of the few and he didn't last very long. As always, this Administration didn't want to upset the Right Wing for some reason.
And that is the difference between the actual Progressive Wing of the party and the administration, we LOVE upsetting the Far Right, in fact when they are upset, we KNOW we are on the right track.

(116,464 posts)Meanwhile, the S.E.C. is about to consider a major rule governing hedge funds and other private companies that solicit investments from the public. Ms. Whites immediate predecessors supported an early proposal of the rule that, shockingly, did not include any specific investor protections. What is needed is a new proposal with the safeguards recommended by the S.E.C.s own Investor Advisory Committee, including steps that nonpublic companies must take to verify the ability of investors to understand and absorb the risks in private offerings, and requirements that those companies disclose the data the S.E.C. will need to adequately police them. This is a critical test for Ms. White, who has yet to show that she supports stronger regulations.
...the other agency, headed by someone Obama "hand-picked," offered up "sound guidelines." Those are the rules that need to be pushed, and the actions of Congress should also be scrutinized.
This isn't a done deal, and it deserves exposure.

(26,624 posts)millions as a partner for a firm that represented Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, Goldman, Sachs, Deutsche, Chase, and AIG, among others? Think that fact that his firm has retained her firm has anything to do with Jamie Dimon coming out and saying that White is the "perfect choice" to run the S.E.C.? Think of all the things she knows but cant act upon. Could she really turn around and target Morgan Stanley after being their lawyer for all those years?"
It makes one go Hmm.

If you don't give a crap about the world you are leaving your children, you don't give a crap about anything but yourself.
The world is overpopulated and it is clear that the preferred method to "reduce" it is based on greed.
