Let's create a list of people who haven't/won't benefit from the American "Golden Age"...

By Golden Age, I mean the era Republicans and conservatives constantly look back upon fondly. Hoping one day we return to a rural, agrarian, gun-toting, slave owning, God-fearing existence.

All of that would be great unless you were/are:

Gay
Lesbian
Bisexual
Pansexual
Polysexual
Transgender
Hispanic
Black
Asian
Native American
A woman
Muslim
Jewish
Irish
Italian
Catholic
Protestant (at times)
Secular
Mormon
Buddhist
Hindu
Sikh
Leftist
Socialist
Communist
Poor
Lower class
Lower middle class
Middle class
Undocumented
Homeless
Chronically ill
Retired
Young (prior to labor reform)
Unemployed
Poorly educated
Uneducated
A slave
A servant
Mentally ill
Handicapped...

Forgive me if I've left some or many out. There are so many categories that I can't recall all of them.

So let's try and create a mostly or at least semi-complete list.

What era is that? Do you mean 1860s? I don't recall any Republicans calling that the golden age. Honeycombe8 May 2013 #2
You have never heard that? They say it all the time. Gravitycollapse May 2013 #4
No, I've never heard anyone refer to the Civil War era as the Golden Age. News to me. nt Honeycombe8 May 2013 #5
