(6,023 posts)Steele is a complete dick, and obviously as much a bigot as the rest of his party. Always gotta have someone to hate or consider to be inferior...

(7,865 posts)This was his line when talking about the analogy.
Respect the fact that I don't think...
No, you can say "you have to respect my opinion" or you can try to elucidate why you think the analogy does not work (Though I think the analogy is apt). You cannot imply 'fact' when what you mean is opinion.
Moreover Steeles suggestion that they are not analagous is idiotic. We are not talking about prejudist feelings or thoughts or even de facto discrimination. We are talking about De Jure discrimination by law. This form of discrimination by law exists by category without regard to whether someone recognizes whether you are black or gay when you walk into a room. This discrimination is about basic human rights, not about whether someone doesn't like you.
Steele is a moron.

Strangely, there is also a large population of Black gay men. The disconnect makes my brain hurt.

(36,649 posts)But gays don't deserve legal protections for equal rights because - based on his own reactions - anti-gay feelings are visceral.

(23,278 posts)I volunteer with The Dallas Resource Center. The one community we have seen a spike in HIV infection is young AA gay and bisexual men. They hear it at church, they hear it on the street...You keep your gay self on the down low.Lesbians in the AA community are much more accepted and open.Unless they move to Oak Lawn(the gay district) they are ostracized by their own community. All communities see this to a degree, but it is profoundly more pronounced here.
