Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus on Monday morning vowed to investigate IRS targeting of conservatives for extra scrutiny as multiple Democrats called for a probe.
These actions by the IRS are an outrageous abuse of power and a breach of the publics trust. Targeting groups based on their political views is not only inappropriate but it is intolerable," Baucus said. "Americans expect the IRS to do its job without passion or prejudice. We need to get to the bottom of what happened here. I want to see all the facts. We need to know who knew what, and exactly what mistakes were made."

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) called on President Obama to "immediately condemn" the "attack on our values" and demanded a congressional investigation.
The actions of the IRS are unacceptable and un-American," he said. "While we await answers from the Inspector General, there must be a congressional investigation to determine how this happened and to prevent this from ever happening again."
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA) also called for accountability and safeguards to make sure it never happens again.

Am I the only one who thinks Republicans opened a can of worms?
White House press secretary Jay Carney said in a statement Monday that President Barack Obama is "concerned" that a "small number of Internal Revenue Service employees may have" inappropriately singled out conservative groups for further review during the 2012 election and that he expects "appropriate steps" will be taken should an independent review find that rules were broken.
The President believes that the American people expect and deserve to have the very best public servants with the highest levels of integrity working in government agencies on their behalf," he said. "Based on recent media reports, he is concerned that the conduct of a small number of Internal Revenue Service employees may have fallen short of that standard. We understand that the matter is currently under review by the Inspector General. If the Inspector General finds that there were any rules broken or that conduct of government officials did not meet the standards required of them, the President expects that swift and appropriate steps will be taken to address any misconduct.

(9,186 posts)When the K street scandal was ongoing, the Repugnants in charge did not investigate SHIT, but Newtered, who was Humping his personal Appalachian trail, was leading an impeachment of Clinton over a lie about sex. The GOP did not investigate anyone. WA State's Doc Hastings was the "Ethics" Chairman due to the original stepping down in shame...nothing was investigated.
The GOP can yell very loudly, and Rushbo, Beckster and the company choir back them up without fail, but they grow resoundingly silent when one of their own has to have his Casino owning parents buy off the spouse of his private Appalachian trail...Oh, he was a family values Christian too...
Investigate Boehner and Cantor for impersonating human beings.
