I just always feel grateful that I don't live in a dry area.

100 degrees here in Los Angeles.

They are on my side porch. Stay inside.

We don't have air conditioning, but we have lots of trees. They cool our house.

Now it's down to 96F and the sun's still high, so maybe the winds are starting to shift.

Both of us are native L.A. and lived most of our lives there. Finally, got weary of the unrelenting heat and brown and moved to the cool and green.

So poor and elderly can end up roasted.

The ones I worry about are here in Vegas.

It doesn't cool off at night in the summer.

I'm in No. Long Beach, about 6 miles inland from the beach, and at 2:18 the thermometer (in the shade) reads 96 degrees! UGH!

I lived in Ontario for almost 30yrs and it could be hellish there in summer/fall. The house had no AC, not even a window unit, so on the worst days I would just lay on the floor with a fan blowing on me, lol. I don't miss it a bit. Yes, I think it's going to be a lot worse in the coming months.

We have two thermometers. One is in the shade, and one in direct sun.

So the real temperature is probably about 110 -- somewhere around there.

Wonder what our summer is going to be like?

We need water, water, water. I am trying to keep myself, my trees and my plants watered.

I just biked up the coast in Santa Monica.
The sun is blazing but at least there was a nice breeze to keep it from being completely miserable.

Believe it or not, it is cooler near the coast because you do get a breeze from the ocean.

It's really, really hot here, and I hate to think what it is like in the Valley.

but it's a "dry heat".



Yeah. Like a blast furnace.

Been keeping an extra eye out for brush fires here in south Texas. People here forget we are still in a drought because of the unusually cool weather for this time of year.

Don't know how you deal with that humidity!
Basically, I just got wet walking out the door...

some days I almost expect to see fish floating through the air it is so humid at times!

Stay safe zappaman, I know in the past I've read the wildfires in Cali can become real monsters in no time at all.

Not too bad, but every once in a while we get near 100 degrees, usually in August or September.

I don't give a shit if it's dry heat this sucks in May ,in August it's miserable but it's only May .

Literally a quarter mile from the ocean. Normally it's cool and foggy through june... not this year, I guess.

Last year I think we had the foggy days in late May and little in June. I hope this is not the beginning of summer. We did just have cool days last week, so I'm hoping this is a freak hot spell.

They are riding from Murrietta to Palm Springs today. Yeesh.

The have it down to a science. Now, the spectators, that's a another story.

They start increasing salt intake days before the race, and that water they drink during the race isn't just water.

brings lot's of inlanders to our coast. Great break for beach communities like Avila and Pismo.
One of the greatest sensations is to jump naked in to the cold surf this time of year then lay out in the hot sun. Your whole body just vibrates with the cool water evaporating in the warm air.

Still fucking hot (I'm in the Santa Cruz mountains) and the fire danger is high, but it's not LA. We had that weather last week.

and whatnot and I don't know the area.

And elevated fire danger. The fire service has been dumping retardant on the forest for the past couple weeks up here.
