Really, there is nothing else in this world that is worse than standing on line at the Post Office.
Seriously....
For those of you who haven't seen that commercial for on-line postage, that is what they say.
Not that it is annoying to schlep over to the Post Office in the middle of the day.
Nope, there is nothing worse, nothing, do you hear me, than going to the muther fucking post office in the middle of the day..........

(3,690 posts)The line at the Department of Motor Vehicles is worse than the line at the post office, hands down!

(30,761 posts)They have twelve checkout lanes and only one or two of them open. People are in line, backed up all over the place, no matter what time you get there. That is annoying.

(20,043 posts)I used to love my grocery store, lines were always short and quick. Not anymore, like you said 2 registers open lines down the aisle.
The dollar store is worse. I go there to get a few things, and on Saturday of all days they'll have one register open. People just walk out, you'll be in line 45 minutes. Ridiculous!

Yes, I know, there's always hyperbole in advertising, but really? Nothing worse? Buy your stamps online because if you don't, you'll be boiled in oil, or come down with the bubonic plague, or be attacked by rabid wolverines? No, something much, much worse! You'll have to wait in line at the post office! NOOOOO!!!

(13,805 posts)...and the people in rural areas have no mail, and anyone who wants to send a letter will have to stand in line at the overcrowded Fedex or UPS customer counters or "mailing centers" and glare at the untrained minimum-wage counter persons that quit every few months and pay, oh, $3.25 or so for the "economy" service they used to get for 45 cents to send a check in a letter when they have to, I'm guessing "the Unions" will still be blamed.

Government documents, tax documents, plain old cheap basic mail service, a living wage for six or seven townspeople and their families, all gone.
Replaced by jack shit.
Good OP, WCGreen.

Lines to get a haircut
Lines to get chow
Lines to take a shower
Lines to get bedding
Lines to get nowhere, just to listen to someone yelling.
Probably more. It's been a few decades ...

(23,973 posts)just to argue with the clerk that there is nothing wrong with using used cereal boxes wrapped in newspaper and tied with butcher's string and that they should accept them for mailing.
Then I dispute the weight and cost of postage for each package, fill out the third change of address form that month, and when finally when all said and done ask them if they take Canadian money in payment.
The looks on the faces of the thirty or so people in line behind me always cracks me up.

(32,091 posts)It's crowded. The aisles are blocked by shoppers who park their carts right next to the stand alone displays, so nobody can get by until they make up their minds whether or not to buy whatever they're looking at. (Granted, this is not behavior specific to SDD, or to people of that age group. It is just worse on that day.) Half the shelves are cleaned out, since the weekly sales usually start on this day. And, then you get to stand in line for half an hour at the checkout line. Needless to say, I'm avoid grocery shopping on Wednesdays like the plague.

(624 posts)You can only park in the parking lot at the post office for 15 minutes and then you get towed , the tow truck drivers wait around the corner and clock you , when you go into the post office the line is 20 minutes long
It's turned into a big scandal down here

(5,857 posts)when you go once a month. Its a major cost if you pay someone to go daily and they have to stand in line for 30 minutes to send a package (or more likely), certified mail, etc.
UPS / Fedex start looking a lot cheaper...
