President Obama delivered a powerful speech at the Commencement today at Morehouse College.
He spoke of personal responsibility, of fearlessness, of the history of this Historic Black College, of its most famous graduate -- Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. -- and, perhaps most movingly, of the personal story of graduate Leland Shelton.

(15,512 posts)Just listened to the full speech. Very inspiring! So glad he took the time to share in these grads' accomplishments. And they were good sports for standing in the rain!
My job, as President, is to advocate for policies that generate more opportunity for everybody policies that strengthen the middle class and give more people the chance to climb their way into the middle class. Policies that create more good jobs and reduce poverty, and educate more children, and give more families the security of health care, and protect more of our children from the horrors of gun violence. Thats my job. Those are matters of public policy, and it is important for all of us black, white and brown to advocate for an America where everybody has got a fair shot in life. Not just some. Not just a few. (Applause.)

(8,020 posts)It was immediately followed up by the "Obama is trying to control the damage on the three scandals plaguing his administration..."
I was screaming at the TeeVee about the faked emails, the IRS guy who started investigating the Teabaggers was a Repub, the Teabagger groups were only 1/3 of the groups targeted by the IRS, and the fucking AP telephone thing was only pen-registers, not wiretapping... The Supremes ruled that legal in 1979.. But they didn't hear me. They apparently can't hear anything but RW noise.
Wonderful speech, well delivered. Heartfelt. Good message. All of that overshadowed by phony "scandals".
Not my country!
