Authorities said the gun that a toddler used to seriously injure himself was left in the open at the family home.

The 2-year-old boy picked up the gun in his parents' bedroom, said Randolph Sheriff's Captain Derrick Hill, the weapon "went off" and the bullet hit the toddler in the face.

Hill said the child walked into his parent's home after lunch, and that both parents and siblings were at the family home in the 1000 block of Spring Valley Drive.
