Apple's tax bill is becoming the left's Bengazi...we keep talking about it like there's kind of smoking gun here and pounding the table for them to be punished over it.
So far, beyond the poutrage, nobody has pointed to a broken law. Sure, everyone is upset that the smart guys in the room figured out a profitable intersection between US tax law and Irish tax law but that's how innovation works.
If you don't like the outcome, change the law. Eliminate that intersection. If the current guys won't change the law, change the guys.
Given the US leadership's relationship with corporations, it is far more likely that lil' ole Ireland will make the first move and change their tax laws in a way that they get their share of that 76 million immediately, if not sooner. It's not like they'll be putting any jobs at risk, the Apple sub in Ireland only employs one person IIRC.

(14,040 posts)but they aren't the only corporation (hell, wealthy individuals take advantage too) taking advantage of the tax laws created by Congress.
It wasn't too long ago we were all up in arms about GE not paying any taxes at all plus getting millions (if not billions) from the US government on top of that. It was like we were paying them not to pay taxes and further hurting the economy.
So, if you're going to rake Apple over the coals, you should be fair about it, do some research and list other companies/individuals that aren't paying their fair share of taxes. Probably like Romney and the Koch Bros. The Koch Bros. are doing more to damage this country than Apple ever will.

because that would be more accurate than this heart-string hatch job.
Also, Apple was called into the hearings most likely to counter-balance the Tea Party / IRS stories because Apple is perceived as a liberal brand.
