So said the gentleman next to me at the bar last night. Additional tidbits from this font of wisdom:
The Occupy movement will never achieve anything, they should quit and try to create something worthwhile so they can make money.
People with 6 figure incomes are part of the 1%.
I mean, Really???? The thing was we had been having a rather pleasant conversation before this. When I respectfully disagreed, (I even said "I respectfully disagree" - I'm such a dork) his tone became dismissive and condescending.
I finally countered with an Alice Walker quote that a fellow DU'er has as their sig line, something to the effect of "The easiest way to give up power is to believe that you have none." He didn't have an answer to that, so a shout-out to whomever has that as their sig.

(422 posts)It's my favorite watering hole, mainly because it's super chill, the staff is friendly, and the happy hour cheap as hell. Encounters like this are rare. He exhibited the whole "too cool for school" cynicism that seems to be fashionable lately.

(24,931 posts)I've never had an unpleasant conversation like that there, but I overheard some Paulites talking much, which put me in a sour mood.
I'll be sure to keep an eye out for you next time I'm there.

(2,759 posts)"The fact that you are talking about them proves that they are not irrelevant. They have already achieved something, in that they have altered the national debate. People like you said the same things about civil rights leaders in the 1950s, that they should just give up, and be less "uppity" so that they could get a job in a role subservient to White people. They were wrong then, and you are wrong now."
