Jan Brewer To GOP: Expand Medicaid Or I’ll Veto All Bills

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/jan-brewer-to-gop-expand-medicaid-ill-veto?ref=fpa

Arizona's Republican Gov. Jan Brewer is stepping up her pressure on the GOP-led legislature to expand Medicaid by declaring a moratorium on legislating until they give in.

Brewer vetoed five unrelated bills on Thursday, according to the Arizona Republic, and threatened to keep blocking legislation until Republicans expand Medicaid to cover thousands of Arizonans, which Obamacare permits at minimal cost to the state.

"I warned that I would not sign additional measures into law until we see resolution of the two most pressing issues facing us: adoption of a fiscal 2014 state budget and plan for Medicaid," Brewer wrote in a statement explaining her decision. "It is disappointing I must demonstrate the moratorium was not an idle threat."

Republicans turning to Democratic ideals? This is going to happen more frequently, IMO.

The insurance co's will make more money, and the state gets more aid. That's why she is pushing this. Same thing going on in Florida.

Yet another fracture in the Tea Party/Republican civil war. Regardless of her reasons, this is something to celebrate!

She just forced me to begrudgingly show her some respect as an actual leader. Yes of course expanding Medicaid should be a no brainer but that hasn't stopped other Republicn governors from resisting it. The fact that she is playing hardball with Republicans in her legislature over this catches me at a near loss of works. Good for her.

This, I think, is why Obama does not engage in a 'take no prisoners' approach. We need Republicans on our side. If they want to still be known as Republicans, that's fine so long as they vote with us on the important things.

The Tea Party is forcing some strange bedfellows, indeed!

I don't know if that's a worse outcome for a President than it is for a governor. But maybe it's time to throw caution to the wind and force Congress to that position. At least then the public would know who to blame.

And actually, nothing much is getting done in Congress now, anyways.

Pleasantly surprised I must say. Not the sort of thing I've come to expect from this woman. Too hard-hearted even for her, I suppose?
