(12,448 posts)It seems that screwing up other people's enjoyment has become part of what it means to be a Democrat.
I couldn't care less about this interminable left turn and frankly didn't even realize it was run today, but simple courtesy is far too much to ask of DU.

(2,120 posts)It would seem to me that if one wanted to DVR the "biggest spectacle in motor racing", and the biggest and most famous sporting event of this holiday weekend, and watch it later without seeing a spoiler, then one should not watch the news, or surf the 'net. I wouldn't. But that's just me.

(17,064 posts)Is the whole internet supposed to shut down b/c a few people want to watch it later?

It's simple courtesy.

(24,853 posts)How cool would it have been to see a NASCAR guy win in his first drive at Indy?
I hate when they end Indy races under yellow. I wish they'd go to a Green-White-Checker like NASCAR does.
Hope you're doing well!

(40,416 posts)From the Geologic podcast, hosted by musician and skeptic George Hrab. From a podcast segment George calls "Rupert McClanahan's Indestructable Bastards" he covers Foyt's "brushes with the great beyond".
It's an absolutely amazing account of the character of this icon of auto racing.
Here's the segment (5+ minute audio):

And forgive Hrab for his cheesy Scottish accent.
I hope you enjoy this. I did.
AJ Foyt, truly an indestructible bastard.
on edit: and congrats to Tony!

(17,064 posts)Had the race not gone yellow flag, any of the top 4 or 5 could have won IMO.
madokie
(51,076 posts)He was determined and had a good car but yes any one of the top 5 could have won if not for the yellow.
A HERETIC I AM
(24,376 posts)And I mean that sincerely.
Tony is well and truly a decent, nice guy. I've met him and he is a very genuine sort with an infectious smile.
Well done, Tony. You deserve it.
Of course, the "Andretti Curse" lives on.

(24,376 posts)On the Monday after the race, probably 91 or so. Load out day.
In the infield, in front of the Museum.
Me and one of our neighbors in the garage area. The bicycle in the background at my right elbow is (was) mine and it's sitting by the open door of our engineering office.

(48,955 posts)Kannan deserves it. Even though I was rooting for a break in the Andretti curse (and Marco was in the race - almost the entire time - right up to the end.)
Well done, Tony Kanaan. A very well deserved win.

(2,068 posts)DVRed the race, fast forwarded through the commercials, only to watch it end under caution. What a fucking letdown! Nobody "won" this race. Kanaan got a jump on the final restart and then it was a 2 lap slow parade. There should be a law that no race, regardless of what kind, should ever end under a caution. Consider Michael Andretti's many, many heartbreaks at Indy, and he was never "lucky" enough to "win" under caution. I consider "winning" under caution, not winning at all.
